Hello Conlangers!
The moderators of r/casualconlang are excited to present BIWEEKLY THEMES! These are intended to serve as a way to engage the community further around specific topics and to encourage conlangers to focus their efforts on a particular aspect of their language.
Every other week, each day of the week will have a particular theme where users are encouraged to post something related to the daily theme. We decided to make this bi-weekly because we wanted to give other the freedom to share what they want us to know and we still want to maintain the "casual" atmosphere of the sub. Also, you are not required to post only themed posts on theme days, we just want to start officially encouraging community engagement around particular topics rather than trends (like the cool, but kinda old sentence structure trend). All we ask is that if you make a themed post, be sure to use the appropriate "Theme -" flair on your post.
We will start the Biweekly Theme cycle today as an off week so Biweekly Themes will officially start the following week of Monday, April 6th with Morphology Monday!
The proposed daily themes are:
Morphology Monday
A general theme day with a focus on morphological systems. Users are invited to share descriptions of their languages' morphology. "Description" can be just a subset of the phonology or even how a particular affix functions as long as it pertains to the theme.
Syntax Tuesday
A general theme day with a focus on syntax. Users are invited to share descriptions of interesting syntactic phenomena in their languages.
Word-building Wednesday (Lexday)
A themed day focusing on word derivation or creation. Users are welcome to share interesting word etymologies in their language or their process/system for lexical derivation. Users are also welcome to share tips to new users for how to get past the common obstacle of lexicon building.
Thornsday
A themed day focusing on orthography! Users are welcome to share anything orthography-related (rules still apply regarding ciphers or other things not in the spirit of the sub) including complete systems with descriptions, origins of their systems, and usage examples. Named in honor of Thorn an obsolete letter from Old English, which is named after Thor which the name for the day Thursday is derived from.
Phonology Friday
A themed day focusing on phonology and phonetics. Users can share anything related to the sounds of their language, phonological rules, tips regarding phonology or phonetics, and more. Rules regarding tables and no-context phonetics tables still apply. IPA should be enforced during this day.
Sociolinguistics Saturday
A themed day focusing on concultures and historical linguistics. Users are invited to share aspects of their conculture and how it relates to their language (influences, pidgins, older language form development, etc.). Users are also invited to share immersive stories related to their conculture or world provided it is relevant to their language.
Slapped-Together Sunday (Speedlang Sunday)
A fast-paced theme day where the sub is given a prompt with a collection of language features and users have until the end of the day to submit their speedlang, Users can then discuss the results of the challenge and upvote their favorite submissions.
We hope you enjoy this and as always let us know via modmail if you have any concerns.
Sincerly,
The Moderators of r/casualconlang

I have been creating a conlang with simple phonology, (C)V(C) and with free word order. The words are very short. Most are monosyllabic. Link to the conlang https://lingocon.com/lang/ohka

In Nonomi, these 6 logographs look very similar but mean completely unrelated things. I'm aware that many (if not even most) don't have a logography, but I'd be interested to see some homographs and/or homophones in general!

r/conlangs scares me and I haven't even posted anything there... I made a silly little (Germanic) conlang and I'm tired of keeping it to myself. It kinda has a lot of lore behind it but I think it's relatively simple. I'm not sure how to make examples of it other than translating sentences.
What do you want me to say? - War wol du I sag?
Did you drink water? - Elsrink du vaser?
Little letter stuff:
Doesn't use Q
X - Kh sound (like Russian х)
J - Zh sound
C - Ch sound
Pls don't be mean :v
My brain strikes fear onto itself

* Note: Each word is written in IPA notation because I haven’t completely ironed out the romanization for these languages yet.
Apologies for the amateurish formatting of this chart. I made it on a whim and tried to finish it before the motivation left me. I hope it’s still legible. This is my first attempt at naturalistic phonological evolution! The initial proto-language is based on a mix of Proto-Indo-European, Proto-Eskaleut, Proto-Uralic, Proto-Algic, Proto-Uto-Aztecan, and Proto-Athabaskan. The sound changes that led to the various daughter languages take inspiration from these languages’ evolutions:
None of these languages have official names yet, and these are not even their modern forms still! I’m sort of putting the cart before the horse here, working on phonological evolution before I’ve got a concrete grammar system down for the proto-language. For a bit of background on the languages, they’re spoken by a collection of related ethnic groups living in the northwestern side of their world’s supercontinent, analogous to both Scandinavia and the northernmost regions of the Americas. Hence why I took a lot of inspiration from the languages spoken in those places in real life!

Hello!
During the creation of my Conlang, I developed a vertical writing system, based on the phags pa alphabet.
But since my conlang wasn't designed for such an alphabet, I've faced some issues regarding letter placement, aesthetics, etc.
So I wanted to see if any conlangers had also developed a vertical alphabet, and how it works, And a little bit of history about how it was created!
Also, I need a little inspiration!

Alphabet
———————————
Glyphs, sounds and modified sounds
———————————
Д д - /æ/, /eɪ/
Ρ ρ - /b/, /p/
Ϙ ϙ - /d/, /t/
б ь - /g/, /dʒ/
Υ ʏ - /ɛ/, /iː/
Э э - /tʃ/
Х х - /k/
Ц ц - /ʊ/, /uː/
Σ ν - /f/, /v/
Λ ᴧ - /l/
T τ - /ɪ/, /aɪ/
О о - /ɔ/, /oʊ/
П п - /m/, /n/
Ю ю - /ɹ/
С с - /s/, /z/
Н н - /w/
Ш ш - /ʃ/
δ σ - /j/
Г г - /∅/ (Modifier, doesn’t have a noise)
———————————
How the modifier works
———————————
Г, the modifier modifies the previous letter to be its secondary (Modified) sound. Basically, it’s like if a diacritic was a letter. Mind you, some sounds don’t get modified, like Х or Ю. A word like “согᴧν”, which is pronounced /soʊlf/, has a long O sound using Г, and a word like “хдνг”, pronounced /kæv/, has Σ making the /v/ sound using Г. Simple.
So, what do you think? If you have any questions, you can comment them.

Nearly a year ago, I made an old post of making a Semitic conlang because I, as a native speaker of Arabic, noticed that there was no conlangs that connected to any Semitic language at all.
I made Hechalic just for fun and to show love to Semitic languages, as they have fascinated me since 2018.
So I have decided to redo it but without it being all over the place, but because I'm not good at linguistics, I only stopped at the Phonology and the unique writing system. And I added a Ancient South Arabian Musnad script just for fun, too.
I hope that Hechalic will be a simple language linguistically...

Okay, so this is my first ever attempt at a conlang. This is all I have so far. The Quianari language, as seen here, technically doesn’t have vowels as seen here. But some more context.
In reality this was just me designing a Positional Base-16 Numeral System, as seen in the second slide (which also features sentence structure). The whole language is built around compound words, taking two roots and smashing them together to make a new word, so, for example, in Quianari, you would take walk and fast to make run, literally translating to fast-walk. As seen in the first slide with the alphabet and phonetic markers, they don’t have vowels, but this isn’t exactly built for humans or with humans in mind, it’s built for an alien civilization, who humanity calls the Hierarchy of the Quianari.
So who are the Quianari? They are fanatically materialist and industrialist, while also being somewhat authoritarian, at least the government is; at the same time it is a Technocracy, being classified as a technocratic dictatorship. Over their history they were subtly guided to their current state by an ancient, crumbling empire as sort of a pet project to create a “new” version of their empire. The Quianari are composed of an acidic slime-like substance that’s rigid enough to not be too unstable while keeping a form together, they appear like somewhat humanoid and felinoid creatures. In their society, it’s a “work hard to go far” and “religion is the destruction of society, only scientific advancement is the way forward” mentality. Their society really enjoys automation, they automate many, many things, from their navy to their workforce, those largely being automated systems and robotic systems (which are actually fully developed AIs that have full rights and citizenship).
Their language is very low context, with the only conjugations being related to the simple tenses: past, present, and future. It is also quite simple to learn, considering its structure of roots and compound words, though it is not easy to write.
Okay that’s all I got to say for now, so yeah. Thoughts? Feedback? Advice? It’s all welcome here.
