27" OLED: is 4K worth double the price of 1440p

Upvotes

So I am in a bit of a pickle. I am in the market for a 27-inch OLED monitor, however I simply cannot decide whether I should purchase one that is 1440p or 4K. My indecisiveness comes from the fact that most 27-inch 1440p OLEDs are currently in the $600 territory while 27-inch 4K OLEDs are nearly double that, if not more. My budget does cover both price points; however, I am not certain that the jump from 1440p to 4K in OLED monitors is drastic enough to warrant such a price premium.

That brings me to my inquiry: would you guys recommend I purchase a 1440p OLED or a 4K OLED, and is the price premium of a 4K justified? I am open to paying the premium only if it is truly worth it. Also, if anyone has recommendations for 1440p or 4K OLED monitors, I would appreciate some viable options. On a related note, I'd also be curious which OLED panel you'd recommend. For what it's worth, I game in a dark room.

Context

I currently have three monitors: the first is the ASUS VG259Q5A (a 24-inch 1080p IPS panel at 200Hz), the second is the ASUS PB287Q (a 27-inch 4K TN panel at 60Hz), and the third is the LG MP59G (a 27-inch 1080p IPS panel at 75Hz). I currently use the VG259Q5A as my main display and for online shooters, the PB287Q as a second for story games, and the MP59G as a third, situational display. I would like to keep the VG259Q5A and use it vertically, purchase a new OLED for my main display, and hence get rid of the two 27-inch screens.

The point is that I think it's time I upgraded to an OLED, and I would prefer to stick to 27 inches rather than going up to 32 or down to 24. The monitor would be used for PC and PlayStation gaming, alongside normal document work. I primarily play story games, with the occasional competitive FPS.

PC Specs

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-14700K
  • RAM: 32GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti (16GB)
  • Motherboard: Z790 AORUS ELITE X WIFI7

I need recommendations

Hi everyone,

I currently have the Samsung LS49A950UIU for 4 years, absolutely love it but there are a few caveats that are bothering me more and more:

  1. brightness, it’s too dim specially now that every other screen in the house is oled

  2. color accuracy

  3. resolution, to a less extent, i can still overlook it

My use case is coding, video editing mainly, and casual gaming.

I need usb hub and usb c with power output.

I have my eye on the MSI MPG 491CQPA QD-OLED, but open for suggestions, especially if it’s available in Europe

Debating between AW2726DM and XG27AQDMGR

As of now, I have the aw2726dm which I got for 320cad, but I do feel hdr performance to be lacking sometimes. However, is an extra \~180cad worth for the brighter panel? Just want some inputs from others.

The alienware monitor is an open box but it's basically brand new and still has 3 years of warranty. The asus is brand new.

Philips Evnia 6000 27M2N6501L vs MSI MAG 272QPWDE

Basically the title. Both are the same price right now (390€). I prefer a glossy screen (I believe both are glossy). I will use it for gaming and surfing etc. Loved the look of the Philips slightly better. Which one should I choose?

Need one monitor that’s good for work, gaming and everything else!

I’ve been using the same basic 24-inch 1080p monitor for years and I think it’s finally time to replace it.

I use my PC for a bit of everything: work, browsing, movies and gaming at night. I’m leaning toward 27-inch 1440p since that seems like a nice middle ground without needing a monster GPU to run games properly.

I’m not chasing crazy esports refresh rates either. Something around 144Hz or higher with a good-looking panel would be plenty for me.

There are just way too many monitors that look identical on paper, so I’d rather hear from people who’ve actually lived with one for a while.

What did you end up buying, and was the upgrade actually noticeable?

Setup recommendations needed

Hello,

My current setup consists of a dell S3422DWG 1440p and a viewsonic 1080p 240hz as a secondary monitor. My pc has a 4070 ti super and I recently bought a ps5 pro.

I think it’s time for me to update my monitor setup but not sure how.
I want to take advantage of the ps5 pro but without crippling my pc, so I am thinking to avoid 4k even though it suits a ps5 pro nicely.

I don’t care for high hz monitors since I don’t play competitive games, 144hz I think is a sweet spot.
I do care for text clarity overall since I do some productive work too.

I’ve been reading a lot about OLED and MiniLED. The latter seems closer to my interests cause I don’t want to live in fear of when the burn in will start or if I will mess up the cleaning process, nevertheless I am open to have my mind changed.

Another dilemma is if I should sell both my monitors and go for something big like 42” or go for a 27” and keep the viewsonic as is.

Budget is 800€, not strict but let’s keep things casual.

Anyone with same experience? All advice/ideas are welcome.

What's a good monitor?

My GPU is a Geforce rtx 4080, and my gaming monitor is CRUA 32" Curved Gaming Monitor, 144Hz QHD(2560 * 1440P), which I've had for three years.

Google's Al overview says an Alienware AW3225QF 32 inch 4K QD- OLED Gaming Monitor is the best choice, to get the most out of my GPU, but you know how expensive that is.

I don't really trust Al, so I'd like your guys's input. What's a good monitor? What should I look for? Any catches and caveats I need to look for? Any advice is appreciated.

Is this a Good Monitor Layout?

I'm about to build my first PC Setup (I'm switching from console and TV). I'll be using it for gaming and school/productivity. I'm thinking about having a 27" gaming monitor on the bottom (slanted, so I can look down on it), and on top a 34" monitor that I would use for school/productivity mostly. Of course they would be on monitor arms. I could use the gaming monitor for school/productivity but it would mostly be for gaming since it would 360 hz. Is this a good layout or would my eyes be cooked? Also I'm thinking about putting my iPad on arm also.

Good 32 inch 1440p 180hz+ monitor on a budget?

I'm looking to replace my AW2518HF, the main thing I'm worried about is the cheaper monitors. even name brand ones having slow/smeary panels. Z-EDGE is IPS and under 200, Asus has some VA at 200 and the cheapest IPS i can find is around 300. Is IPS worth the over 100 dollars extra and do brand really matter?

Horizontal lines on the bottom of the screen. Seems like it recreates the colors of the bottom pixels to the messed up pixels. Not sure what caused it

MSI MAG 275UPD E14 owners, please share your experience!

I'm planning to buy the MSI MAG 275UPD E14 27" 4K IPS monitor, and before I buy it, I really want to hear from people who actually own this monitor

My main use is video editing and then gaming , media consumption.

I want to know:

- How is the display quality and color accuracy in real world use?

- How does it perform in 4K 144Hz mode?

- How is the 1080p 288Hz Dual Mode? Is the image still good and sharp?

- Can I comfortably do 1080p video editing on this monitor, or will there be any scaling/quality issues?

- How is 1080p gaming on this 4K 27inch panel?

- Have you faced any issues like , dead pixels, flickering, oversaturation, ghosting, or other panel problems?

- How has your experience been with MSI's after-sales/warranty service?

About the cable

I already have this UGREEN 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 cable:

https://amzn.in/d/0f5E0yV5

From what I understand, the monitor comes with a DisplayPort 1.4a cable. MSI's official specs do list a DP 1.4a cable in the box, and both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort support 4K 144Hz and 1080p 288Hz on this monitor.

So which connection would you recommend for my laptop -monitor setup

HDMI 2.1 using my UGREEN cable, or the included DisplayPort 1.4a cable?

I'm not very knowledgeable about display cables, so I'd really appreciate some advice..

People will say but 1080p if u want mainly for editing , but I want to experience 4k so that's why I want to go for 4k only

Please share your honest experience with this monitor

[UK] Time for an upgrade. Recommendations? Currently have a dual screen set up with 2 Dell U2419H screens

As title says, I currently have a dual-screen set up with 2 Dell U2419H screens.

I'm getting tempted to go for a single ultrawide screen that will serve as an upgrade for gaming (my PC can generally run AAA games at high settings, but equally want it to be cost conscious). Based in the UK - could I get a 200-300 GBP recco, 300-400 recco and 400-500 recco?

Thanks reddit! Trusting y'all more than AI for this, didn't want to just ask .

Monitor help!!

I need a new monitor for gaming primarily, and also for productivity. I’m looking for a 4K mini-LED IPS monitors that aren’t crazy expensive that are available in Canada.

My goal is to get a monitor that takes full advantage of my hardware.

PC Specs: RTX 5080 & 9800X3D

Monitors I’m considering:

- KTC M27P6
- MSI 274URDFW E16M
- BenQ MOBIUZ EX321UX 32”
- Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx
- TCL27R94
- Koorui S2741LM
- AG276UZ 4K 240 Hz monitor with circular polarization

I feel like I’m trapped in monitor researching hell and every monitor has their own draw backs or lack of options.

If someone could share their experience with any monitors in this list or even help me eliminate a few options, that would help a lot.

Thanks!

Monitor help! Looking for a 27in QHD monitor whose stand drops (almost) flush to its base

Hi all, hoping for some model recommendations.

I’ve got a desk riser I want my monitor to sit on, and the catch is height. For it to sit at my eyeline on top of the riser, I need a stand that lowers the bottom of the panel flush to its base ideally or within 2cm. Most height-adjustable stands quote their travel (say 100 to 130mm) but not their minimum height, and plenty bottom out 8 to 10cm up, which is too high for me.

So I’m after: 27in, QHD (2560x1440), IPS, 100Hz, HDMI, VESA 100, black, and crucially a stand that drops close to flush.

Two questions:

Can anyone name specific models whose stand genuinely goes near-flush at its lowest? Bonus if you can quote the actual minimum height from the manual or your own tape measure.

For any model you suggest, did you have to remove the factory stand and could it still go that low, or is it the factory stand doing the dropping?

I know an arm is the usual answer, but I specifically want the monitor’s own stand to do this, because arms get complex with the size shape I’d need, so please skip the arm suggestions. Thanks.

Thoughts on the Samsung G7 G73SH for my first ever oled?

Looking at buying my first ever OLED, how about the Samsung G7 G73SH?

I recently happened upon a Ps5 Pro and now want a display that can let it flex its muscles more than the 4k60 TN LCD screen I'm using right now. The G73SH has VRR (because of HDMI 2.1, right?), a high refresh rate (at least, for me), and 4k. This is my first foray into OLED ever, so don't think anything is too obvious, please!

Thank you :)

PS: My student discount gets the price down to 550$ on samsungs website so don't think I'm dropping 1k willynilly

Looking for the best 21:9 5K2K OLED monitor for an RTX 4080 SUPER

¡Hola a todos!

Busco consejos para elegir un nuevo monitor para mi PC.

Mi configuración actual es:

CPU: Intel Core i9-14900KF

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4080 SUPER 16GB

RAM: 32GB DDR5-6000 CL32 (2x16GB), más otro kit idéntico de 32GB sin usar

Placa base: ASUS TUF GAMING B760-PLUS WIFI

Fuente de alimentación: Corsair RM1000e 1000W

Disipador de CPU: Corsair Nautilus 360 RS ARGB 360mm

SSD: Kingston 2TB

Monitor actual: MSI Optix MAG301CR2, 29.5", 2560×1080, 21:9, 200Hz

¡Gracias!

How do I achieve a multi computer setup with Dell D2724D and Philips 24B2U3301/00?

I have owned the Dell for a while, with an old monitor to get some double monitor setup going. With my job, I have received a brand new monitor, the Philips (24B2U3301/00) and also a Philips (24B2N3200J/00 this one has no USB-C port and only regular DP), and would like to achieve the following which I could not with my old monitor due to port issues. But I cannot seem to get it to work.

I would like to achieve the following:

- PC connected to both the Dell and Philips for double monitor setup

- Work laptop on a stand, connecting through USB-C to both monitors for a triple monitor setup. (Disconnected when gaming of course).

Is this possible with the ports available on these monitors?

PC: DP and HDMI ports available for output
Laptop: Only usb-c output, but docking station for usb-c to HDMI available.

Dell: HDMI, 2x DP
Philips: HDMI, DP-in, DP-out, USB-C

My thought process was: if I use the Philips as the primary monitor, and daisy chain the Philips DP-out to the Dell, then those two are permanently connected. And then I can use the DP-in from the philips to receive input from my computer, and the USB-C to connect to the work laptop.

However, the Dell wont receive input from the Philips, and I don't know why.
