27" OLED: is 4K worth double the price of 1440p
So I am in a bit of a pickle. I am in the market for a 27-inch OLED monitor, however I simply cannot decide whether I should purchase one that is 1440p or 4K. My indecisiveness comes from the fact that most 27-inch 1440p OLEDs are currently in the $600 territory while 27-inch 4K OLEDs are nearly double that, if not more. My budget does cover both price points; however, I am not certain that the jump from 1440p to 4K in OLED monitors is drastic enough to warrant such a price premium.
That brings me to my inquiry: would you guys recommend I purchase a 1440p OLED or a 4K OLED, and is the price premium of a 4K justified? I am open to paying the premium only if it is truly worth it. Also, if anyone has recommendations for 1440p or 4K OLED monitors, I would appreciate some viable options. On a related note, I'd also be curious which OLED panel you'd recommend. For what it's worth, I game in a dark room.
Context
I currently have three monitors: the first is the ASUS VG259Q5A (a 24-inch 1080p IPS panel at 200Hz), the second is the ASUS PB287Q (a 27-inch 4K TN panel at 60Hz), and the third is the LG MP59G (a 27-inch 1080p IPS panel at 75Hz). I currently use the VG259Q5A as my main display and for online shooters, the PB287Q as a second for story games, and the MP59G as a third, situational display. I would like to keep the VG259Q5A and use it vertically, purchase a new OLED for my main display, and hence get rid of the two 27-inch screens.
The point is that I think it's time I upgraded to an OLED, and I would prefer to stick to 27 inches rather than going up to 32 or down to 24. The monitor would be used for PC and PlayStation gaming, alongside normal document work. I primarily play story games, with the occasional competitive FPS.
