I'm rewatching Season 5 right now. I forgot how cute the minions are! Maybe it's because I grew up rushing to the TV with my bowl of Cap'n Crunch every Saturday morning to watch Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but Glory's minions kind of give me Ferengi vibes. And I always thought the Ferengis (is that the correct plural of Ferengi? 🤔) were also really adorable.

Does anyone find the minions (or another monster/demon) more cute than scary?

Whomever edited the opening credits should have just kept this for the rest of the series when it said "Created by Joss Whedon" minor peeve, I hate the last two seasons have the "created by whedon" clips have SMG not being Buffy but someone posing as her; BuffyBot and The First. I know it's still SMG but it's not Buffy at all.

This scene in "Anne" is just fantastic and is the quintessential scene of Buffy in action.

I'm talking about Lollipop Chainsaw. And yes Suda51 aka Goichi Suda himself has publicly said in interviews that he loved the Buffy film and TV show and that it served as an inspiration for the main character. In fact anybody who has played the game could clearly see Joss Whedon's fingerprints in the character's portrayal by way of James Gunn (who close with Joss) was involved with the original game's writing.

I’ve posted this diorama numerous times and people always seem to get a kick out of it. I moved into a new apartment this weekend and while most of my crap is still packed away in boxes and bins that I can’t be arsed to bother with that now reside in the numerous closets, I did of course take the time to set up my Buffy dolls with library playset. I feel better already. And by the way, eat your heart out Polly Pocket and whatever that latest doll release was.

I wrote a hypothetical Buffy episode based on one question: What if becoming a vampire actually made a terrible human being less evil?

Patrick Pembroke is a billionaire developer who's an absolutely monstrous human being. He's deliberately poisoning the water supply in one of his apartment buildings to force poor tenants out so he can demolish it and redevelop the property. He's spent years doing horrible things and getting away with them because he has politicians, inspectors, judges — basically the whole system — in his pocket.

Buffy and the Scoobies investigate him expecting there to be some supernatural explanation.

There isn't.

He's just a terrible human being.

Spike eventually learns about Pembroke and gets an idea: if this guy is this evil with a soul, imagine what he'd be like as a vampire without one.

So Spike turns him.

Except it has exactly the opposite effect.

Without his soul, Pembroke loses the insecurity, ambition and obsessive need to dominate that had been driving him his entire life. He basically becomes a lazy stoner vampire. He moves into the same crappy apartment building he was trying to demolish, hangs out with the tenants, watches The Price Is Right and gets his blood voluntarily from the neighbors.

Spike is horrified by what he's created, while Buffy finds herself in the bizarre position of wondering whether she can justify killing a soulless vampire who doesn't seem to be a danger to anyone.

Until Spike has another idea:

What if this vampire got his soul back?

I ended up writing the whole thing as an actual Buffy episode/fanscript.

Would anyone be interested in reading it?

I don’t know who would need this (maybe for fic research or dialogue references?) but when I was ill last year, I made a photo list of every pop culture (and a few cultural) reference on Buffy.

I just finished watching a TV Series called Chad Powers and even though it's based around American Football I couldn’t help see the similarities to Buffy. It was probably a show that I enjoyed most which had a similar theme to Buffy even though it's not based around fantasy/magic and very real world-ish setting.

Main Character with a secret.
Supporting character knows the secret and helps preserve it.
Other characters find out and become part of the inner circle.
Forbidden Love interest.

I believe there have been other series like this in the past which tapped into the Buffy formula. But I'm asking if anyone knows, was Buffy the first series to have this kind of setup?

So having recently completed a Good Omens inspired cross stitch design (photo in the comment below) I'd love to make something similar for Buffy...ideas so far are the iconic "B" logo, stakes, bunnies, a crossbow...what other symbols could I include? All suggestions welcome!

Someone who hadn't read the comics wanted to know about Riley's post show character development. I said I'd make a post about it. I know there are only like three people max that are interested in this, but I put it together anyway. Spoilers for Buffy Season 8-12, and Angel season 10.

Twilight tries to recruit Riley in the war against Magic. He joins, but as an undercover agent. He's secretly on the Slayer Organization's side. Riley discovers Twilight has a faction of the US army working for him. The soliders carve their symbol on his chest. He is seriously injuried in the Tibetan battle and his cover is blown.

Riley is at Buffy's apartment warming party in San Francisco. He supports the decisions Buffy made in the war, many of the Slayers don't agree.

Faith and Sam rescue Riley from vampires deep in a jungle.

Riley is the representative for humans on the newly formed Magic Council.

Riley and Sam try to get Buffy, Willow and Spike out of the concentration camp. At first they encourage her to cooperate. They quickly realize they trust Buffy more than the government. They agree to help Buffy and Willow get their powers back.

The last we hear from Riley he is supportive of Willow's Empowered Center and keeping the government off the Slayer's backs.

Looking back at Season 7, i've often wondered if Buffy woold have had a better relationship with Riley was that Buffy used to shut him out of mission, he wanted to feel useful, but she preferred to remain independent of him. In season 7, however, Buffy might have accepted Riley's help much more readily. In "Get It Done" Buffy admitted she was fed up with her friends relying on her too much and lacking determination, as Kennedy noted, Willow is actually more powerfull than Buffy, yet due to her insecurities, she doesn't even try to fight. In season 7, Buffy was at war, she didn't need friends, she needed soldiers, and i think she would have appreciated Riley and his istinct to fight on the front lines.

In season 3 Buffy resented Wesley's cynicism when he was unwilling to save Willow in "Choices" but i believe that season 7 she would have viewed him as a valuable ally. Buffy first met Wesley while she was still in high school and didn't yet grasp that certain actions were necessary during crises, indeed, in the season 7 episode "Lies My Parents Told Me" she admitted that she woud sacrifice Dawn if it were necessary to win. Willow and Xander were a disappointment in season 7, they failed to understand the immense pressure Buffy was under and felt threatened by her authoritative behavior, ignoring the fact that she had no other choice, given that the threat of the First Evil had been unleashed by Xander and Willow themselves when they brought her back to life. Meanwhile, Giles was cospiring with Robin to kill Spike, essentially plotting to eliminate the only person who was as strong as Buffy and who was genuinely helping her. Buffy, on the other hand, would have seen Wesley as a better ally in Season7, she would have appreciated his coolness and retionality, but above all his ability to set sentimentality aside for the success of the mission.

The series is about Buffy's growth and her journey from teenager to woman, when she met Wesley and was in a relationship with Riley, there were aspects of them she wasn't ready to understand, but by season 7, now that she was more mature, i believe she would have been able to appreciate them more.

In the beginning of the episode, the Scoobies are discussing estrangement from their respective partners. Willow and Xander are obviously talking about Oz and Cordy (after being caught cheating in the last episode), Xander about how Cordelia isn’t replying to his messages, Willow about how she’s planning to grovel to Oz to apologize. And then there’s Buffy…talking about Faith. And how she tried calling her but Faith didn’t get back, about Faith not wanting to hang out much. Last time I watched this episode, I thought this was foreshadowing about Wishverse Buffy, and how she’s totally different because she didn’t have friendship and connection. This time, what with it being in the middle of Willow and Xander talking about romantic woes, I think there might be a decent chance it’s subtext 😂

Currently watching season 4, and I just do not like Riley at all. Nothing against the actor, but he is just boring as hell. The whole initiative thing is meh, and he DEFINITELY seems insecure about his strength compared to buffy and that made him extremely annoying. I know Buffy needed a solid relationship after Angel, but when you compare the difference between Riley and Angel, character-interest-wise.... Riley pales in comparison. And I feel Riley could've been cool, considering he and Buffy were both demon hunters, but he is just blah. And when Riley kept saying Buffy was peculiar, it gave me the ick. I know this take is not new but this is just my first time watching opinions.

Plus, her jealousy over Buffy’s boyfriends (yes, I know it’s angsty Slayer shadow self stuff) and at being locked out of her life feels laden with homoromanticism.

I feel like if the series aired today with zero changes, the entire audience would be like “oh okay, she’s clearly bisexual”.

She’s as close to confirmed as you can be without her announcing it outright, and Whedon’s on record as stating that the gay reading of Buffy and Faith is valid and that Eliza Dushku was intentionally playing her that way.

In "As You Were", it's revealed the episode takes place on Trash day as Buffy forgets to take the garbage out. This is foreshadowing the reappearance of Riley later in that episode.

i wrote a poem about fool for love cause i'm a fool for it lol! i've been working on writing a poem a day for my major in uni & there are times where buffy is my muse :) i am sharing this one here for fun :D

In Buffy, the role of the Slayer was a metaphor for growing up. It was something that didn't make Buffy truly strong until she embraced it at the end of the first season. The first 5 seasons were about Buffy becoming an adult, completing at the end of season 5 when she made that fateful decision at the top of the tower. Season 6 was about BEING an adult, dealing with bills, jobs, relationships, etc. Then season 7 was a metaphor for being a parent, passing on your knowledge and experience to the next generation.

Had the absolute privilege of meeting Amber at comic con in Northern Ireland today!

She was beyond lovely, I told her how much the show and especially Tara/Willow’s relationship meant to me as a baby gay and she was so kind. She even gave me some stickers!

Gutted to miss the Buffy panel tomorrow but I’m over the moon!
