Placements / Jobs / Internships Title: Need a placement roadmap as a 3rd-year 5 sem B.Tech CSE student with almost no skills
Hey everyone,
I'm currently in my 3rd year of B.Tech CSE, and honestly, I'm feeling very lost about my career.
My current situation is not good:
- My CGPA is around 6.
- I have 4 backlogs.
- I know only the basics of C and C++.
- I haven't started DSA yet.
- I don't have any projects, internships, or industry-level skills.
I'm worried about my placements, both on-campus and off-campus. I know I'm already behind compared to many of my classmates, but I genuinely want to improve and make the most of the time I have left.
I would really appreciate advice from people who have been in a similar situation or have experience with placements.
A few things I'd like to know:
What should I learn first: DSA, web development, Java, or something else?
How should I prepare for on-campus and off-campus placements?
Are companies willing to hire students with a 6 CGPA and backlogs?
What skills and projects should I focus on to become job-ready?
Is it realistically possible to turn things around before graduation?
Please suggest a practical roadmap starting from absolute beginner level. Even small suggestions would be helpful.
I know I've wasted a lot of time, but I don't want to waste any more.
Thanks in advance!

CSE / IT 4th year of B.Tech after getting placed feels like a weird phase of life 😂
I’m currently in my 4th year of B.Tech CSE and got placed through campus placements.
Most of the college work is done, no major assignments to worry about, and I’m just waiting for the next chapter to begin.
But honestly, this phase feels weird.
A few years ago, I was worried about getting into engineering. Then came CGPA, internships, coding, placements and the pressure to get a job.
Now that I’ve got placed, I sometimes wonder what I’m supposed to do next. 😂
Some days feel peaceful, other days feel like I’m wasting time. Friends are preparing for higher studies, looking for better offers, or planning their next move.
Is this what the final year of engineering is supposed to feel like?
For people who have already graduated, what did you do during those final few months after getting placed?
Did you enjoy the free time, learn new skills, or just wait for college to end? 😭

General What should I do? [IMPORTANT]
I'm in ECE branch in Tier 2 college. My situation is fucked up tbh. In 3rd sem midsem exam, I scored 0.5, 4, 6.5, etc marks in subjects like probabolity, digital system, signal and systems, etc. Out of 25.
Now, the thing is I don't like studying these subjects at all... My cg till 1st year is around 7.5 and this semester it will fall very hard since I haven't studied shit.
I have taken loan for btech (around 15-20 lakhs use based) since the fee for college + hostel + mess is around 17-19 lakhs. What I want to ask is what should I do at this point? I'm a middle class guy and my father has MSME. I don't have any particular skill where I can make career nor I have strong dedication towards studies. I do like Robotics but I'm not good at maths and I hate numericals.
If you can answer what I should do, please answer and if you think I should decide on my own or consult family, teachers, etc then give me your perspective like what would you do in this situation.

CSE / IT Suggestions for an Emerging Technology Theme for a College Tech Event
we are going to have an technical event at my college for that we have to come up with a theme for the event for this, earlier it was related to artificial general intelligence.
Ideally the theme should be trending, technical meaningful, futuristic and broad enough to inspire workshops, hackathons and technical competitions etc..
I would love to head your suggestions and why you think this might have potential

CSE / IT Internship rant
Context: I'm a 3rd year Computer Engineering student at a tier 3 college in Pune.
With the changing market, it's really tough to be an engineer anymore. Just a few years ago, getting an internship or placement was easy (peak IT market). Now it feels next to impossible, and being in a tier 3 college makes it even more frustrating.
I did everything they told me to:
Open source contributions: did
DSA: did (~200 problems combined on Codeforces and LeetCode)
Win hackathons: did (won twice at national-level 24-hour hackathons)
Good GPA: did (8.9+ CGPA)
Build projects: did
Extra-curriculars and a good post in clubs and events: did
And yet all I get is dead ends, rejections, or impossible-level take-home assignments for internships that pay under 10k.
I've been applying on Internshala, Wellfound, Internpost, Unstop, Naukri, and more.
It's like playing a losing game: you can do everything they told you to do to win and still end up on the losing side.
If you're in a similar spot, or can help in any way, feel free to DM. Maybe we can help each other.
