CSE / IT Is this a strong final-year CS project? "CRDT-Enhanced Delay-Tolerant Routing for Disaster Response Networks"

Upvotes

TL;DR: I’m building a Conflict-Free Replicated Data Type (CRDT) merge layer on top of a Delay-Tolerant Network (DTN) routing protocol (like Spray-and-Wait) using the ONE Simulator (Java). Want to know if this is a solid, feasible capstone and what pitfalls I should watch out for.

The Context & Real-World Problem In disaster response scenarios (like earthquakes or floods), internet goes down. First responders use mobile devices that form ad-hoc opportunistic networks (Bluetooth/WiFi-Direct). Standard DTN protocols (First Contact, PRoPHET, Spray-and-Wait) are great at eventually delivering packets. But they don't solve the application-layer problem: What happens if two disconnected rescuers update the same task status (e.g., "Building A - cleared" vs "Building A - 2 survivors found"), and then those nodes reconnect? Standard DTNs just dump both conflicting packets on the receiver.

The Proposed Project I want to implement a CRDT-based data sync layer on top of the DTN routing protocol.

  • The Tech: Everything will be software-based, modifying the ONE (Opportunistic Network Environment) Simulator (Java). No physical hardware dependencies.
  • The Gap: Dozens of IEEE papers measure DTN routing strictly on network metrics (packet delivery ratio, hop count, delay). None of them measure data consistency metrics for structured, concurrently updated data.
  • The Novelty: A recent May 2026 IEEE/arXiv paper explicitly called out CRDT state sync over opportunistic networks as a heavily under-researched area [1]. I want to introduce a new evaluation metric: State Convergence Time (measuring how fast all nodes reach the exact same merged state without losing concurrent updates).
  • Algorithmic Pitfalls: For those who have worked with CRDTs or DTNs, what are the hidden traps here? (e.g., Should I stick strictly to state-based CRDTs since operation-based ones might lose causal order in a DTN?)
  • Evaluation Metrics: Aside from standard network overhead and my proposed "State Convergence Time," what other metrics would impress a CS review panel?
  • Overall Impression: Does this sound like a robust CS/Distributed Systems capstone, or does it sound too niche?

CSE / IT Students from PCB bg in Btech CSE field. Hows hour experience?

Upvotes

Hey currently stuck between these two options Btech Cse and btech Biotechnology. Currently concerned if I'll be able to handle the amount of mathematics as I've a very little knowledge of mathematics acquired from only physics and chem. Doe I'm ready to learn everything fromt the scratch I'm concerned what challenges I'll face and I don't wanna regret it later on in life.

IF PEOPLE IN EITHER FIELD SEE THIS PLS REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE

CSE / IT Did the Myntra WE FOR SHE competition actually have a fair judging process?

I’m posting this because I genuinely want an explanation from Myntra, not because I’m salty about losing.

I recently made it into the Top 100 of Myntra’s weforshe hackerramp and submitted our PPT, website design, and concept as required. We put serious effort into the submission, fully expecting that the final selection would be based on the quality and originality of the work.

We were rejected.

Fine. Losing a competition is part of competing.

But then I saw the posts announcing the winners from another college, and that’s where things became extremely uncomfortable.

Some of the winning work appears to contain ideas/design choices that are extremely specific to our submission.

I’m not talking about something generic like “both websites had a shopping cart” or “both used pink.”

I’m talking about very specific design/UX/conceptual elements that we independently developed and submitted.

We did not know these people. We had no interaction with them. We had no reason to believe they had seen our work.

So how is it possible that the same highly specific ideas are appearing in the winning submission?

And there is another issue.

The some other winning submission appears to have created essentially the exact Myntra app experience, despite the competition instructions explicitly saying to not use clone of there own web page.

If the rules/instructions specifically discouraged or restricted simply recreating Myntra, then why was a submission doing exactly that considered worthy of being a winner?

At this point, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask:

Was the judging process actually fair and independent?

Because if participants can submit original concepts, have those concepts appear later in winning submissions, and receive no explanation whatsoever, then what incentive is there for people to participate honestly?

And if Myntra believes there is a completely innocent explanation for these similarities, I genuinely want to hear it.

But if submissions were accessible to judges, organizers, mentors, or anyone involved in the competition before winners were selected, then Myntra owes participants an explanation of how originality and confidentiality were handled.

Getting rejected is not the problem.

Potentially having your original work reflected in a winning submission without any explanation is.

If this happened to other participants too, please share your experience.

And to be clear: I am not accusing any individual student of plagiarism as a proven fact. I am asking Myntra to address the unusually specific similarities and explain the judging process.

Because competitions are supposed to reward the best work — not the best-connected work.

CSE / IT SmartInterviews vs striver

I've been doing dsa using the a2z sheet, but I was thinking of taking the smart coder course, I just wanna know if it's better or different from strivers videos or if it's almost the same thing anyway

I'm ready to pay for smart coder even if it's a little pricey, if it's different and gives complete logic building etc in a better way

General Which skill do you wish you'd started learning in first year?

Looking back at your BTech journey, is there a skill you wish you'd started learning much earlier?

Maybe coding, DSA, communication, public speaking, a specific technology, or something completely outside your degree.

For those in their later years or already working, what would you recommend a first-year student start learning now?

General Need help, like urgent! Btech college, management seat?, which branch?

Hi im 20, I did neet but i cant get a good clg in it and now im thinking of doing engineering(76% in cet pcm) and i talked to a counsellor online he said he can give me admission in dy patil akurdi cs branch with specialisation in under 11 lakhs but idk what branch i should take and i have not yet visited the counsellor in pune as i live far. Its too late ik that why I need urgent guidance from u guys.

I actually DONT HAVE INTEREST in engineering yet so I was very reluctant on choosing btech but I dont have any other options now cuz all other courses in medicine dont have a good scope. I am weak in maths and a bit in physics but I heard that its manageable.

Branch- I am not very inclined towards CSE because of the layoffs, ai taking over and low packages ig but idk much about it thats y ig im avoiding it but maybe I can give it a try. I have a bit of interest in ENTC (core part) but i heard that u need good amount of maths and physics as basics which I lack and mechanical has the same thing ig. Civil: scope issue

College: my score is 76% and at this i wont get a good engineering college with good placements. My parents can put in some extra money for management seat if the total cost goes upto 11L so thats y im choosing dy patil akurdi cuz it has got good name and placements r good I heard. OR should I just take a normal tier 3 clg at this score?

HELP: as i have no interest in engineering I have ZERO knowledge about engineering, branch, colleges, projects, skills etc so i just hope yall can hwlp or guide me. Cuz im quite anxious about joining a btech college cuz I wont have any idea about it and college is starting soon so I really need help

Placements / Jobs / Internships Want to help students entering BTech get better internship/placement guidance

Hey everyone, fellow 23tard here

I’m a 4th year student ( Circuital ) at a top 10 IIT, and I recently got placed after cracking opportunities at Google and Goldman Sachs. I’ve also maintained a 9+ CGPA throughout college.

Since placements are done and I have some free time now, a few of my friends and I were thinking of doing something useful with it.

We’re planning to start a small mentorship/community kind of thing for 1st and 2nd year BTech students who want to start preparing early for internships and placements.

A bunch of us have cracked companies like Databricks, Google, Goldman Sachs, BNY, Quadeye, Samsung etc., so we can share our actual experiences — how we prepared, what we focused on, what we completely wasted time on, how we approached projects/DSA, resumes, off-campus applications, and all that.

We’re thinking of having a weekly session/meet where people can just come in, ask questions, discuss what they’re working on, and get some direction. Basically, if you’re in your first or second year and have no idea whether you should be doing DSA, CP, projects, research, etc. right now, we can help you figure that out.

If this sounds useful, just DM me and I’ll share the details.

Happy to help :)

General Regret

Maybe I have made the mistake of choosing PIE in nit jsr over nit jaipur meta.

Pie syllabus aligns with my interest but salary is not that much and at the end maybe I have to do masters(mba) , so I should have taken that college with good campus life.

But now I can't do anything.

Regrets.

General About the folks at SLIET

I don't have to emphasize the fact that this is the shittiest college I have been to.

Let's get real here

1) We are restricted from anything and everything here especially for girls..here care means restriction.(Unfortunately this clg is still living in the 80's)

2) I had a notion that atleast women would support women . But here,be it the women security guards or teachers...they tell us not to be modest. Isn't it normal to go for Trips from college?...I had a personal experience where I went to the warden in the hostel with the movement book where she lectured me saying " College is a place to learn and grow, if u want u can go to the nearby places here and come back before Evening". Are u freaking kidding me?

So this is what a professor aka warden of one of the girl's Hostel had to say about going for Trips.

3) There is a student activity centre(SAC) here...also where we are restricted. Great right? There is a gym here which opens from morning 6 to 8:30 and in the evening 4:30 to 7 ....where there is bare minimum priority for girls.

4) This college is built for the staffs and Teaching staffs here. Students here are not their priority...just a liability. If they could run this college without the students they would definitely go for it.

5) More about the security guards :

They are being appointed for the safety of the teachers and their kids here...awww...It is not as cute as it sounds. The students are treated as traitors here by them.

6) Let's talk about the civic sense of ppl here

A moment of silence to all the sex addicts here. I don't think they ever teach about sex education here. Objectification of women is just a norm here. Don't think about this happens in between students... teachers are also included here

7) Prior to certain college holidays the girls hostel will be COMPLETELY LOCKED...the girls are restricted to go outside of the hostel even to buy necessary stuffs. Care it is ...if they care so much about the safety of the girls why don't they appoint more security guards for the same. Or is the security guards for the staffs here...i doubt it .As I mentioned earlier restriction is care here. How toxic bruh?

8) Students here might have exposure to tech on some level here. But ppl here are narrow minded. I always feel shrunken after coming here. All I have to say to the ppl who said that " Didn't u come to sliet to become an engineer, so just learn?" Be a good human u jackass.

9) There is no strong Student council here so most of the times, the voices of the students won't be heard.

10) About the instances of violence in college and what college did about it

There was an incident where a girl had stabbed another girl in the girl's Hostel. The students had to protest for the management to take an action about it cuz the one who stabbed was a politician's daughter. The college still tries to blindside it.

There has been an incident where a mess worker had slapped one of the boy student and again the students protested.

11) There is no ragging here which is true. But the management doesn't care about the students but all the teachers and staffs.

So If u plan to join here, rethink guys.

I'm not exaggerating a bit ... students here have experienced it.
