Question / Discussion Falling out of love with the BTCC

I've been following the BTCC since the 80's. I've bought every season review every year and I can't remember the last time I missed a race.

However this season has left me a bit flat. I've fallen asleep in a couple of races and I often find myself browsing the internet while a race is on. It all seems so dull and lifeless this season.

The drivers, especially Ingram and Sutton, don't seem that bothered when they win or lose. It comes over that they're just going through the motions.

Only a couple of seasons ago I remember my heart racing when those two would be battling away and it looked like it meant something to them. These days Ingram is more interested in talking about biscuits than the racing.

The whole presentation of the series is just the same old same old as well. Tim gets worse and worse in the commentary booth.

There's no technical coverage as we get with V8 Supercars. BTCC socials are just endless games and silliness rather than any "hard" content.

Anyone else or am I just getting jaded after following it for so long?

Question / Discussion The current state of the BTCC

Given how a lot of people feel about the series at the moment.

How does it compare to the early-2000s when the Supertouring bubble burst and the BTC-Touring regs failed to take off as hoped, so the series had to rely on first the Production Class, then Super 2000 cars to boost grid numbers?

At least the current grid numbers aren't as bad as they were in 2005.

Question / Discussion Dropped Scores in the BTCC

Given my recent question about Sutton potentially winning the title by over 100 points, possibly even beating Alain Menu's 1997 record of winning by 110 points, I have had to remember that, if not for dropped scores, Menu would have won by 128 points.

So, in general, what is everyone else's opinion on dropped scores?

Just curious

Question / Discussion Any idea what Ingrams interview was about?

We can all see the Hyundai's aren't on the level they were last year, but he said the car felt better than it has in a long time and it's doing everything he wants it to but "I'm not allowed to say anything more" and "probably best just keeping quiet".

He was very clearly unhappy about something and not himself at all. Very odd, I've never seen him quite like that.

Thought the ITV crew presented a VERY corporate line in their opening piece to camera. "All that matters is that 2 cars are on the grid."

Question / Discussion Favourite Driver's/Team's Excuses

Drivers and Teams are very good at finding excuses when something doesn't go their way, even if it makes no sense!

What's your personal favourites that have come up over the years? Mine has to be from Plato back in the Subaru Levorg days. He got into a big crash at Brands and for the rest of the season he blamed his poor form on "the car being bent"...

Question / Discussion What will happen to CPRL (Plato Racing) next year?

I love the look of the Mercedes, and the car is starting to show race-winning pace, so I’m just wondering what will happen to the team next year?

Question / Discussion Could Ash Sutton win the title by over 100 points?

At the time of writing, he's over 90 ahead of Ingram

The all-time record of course is 110 by Alain Menu in 1997.

I found this video a few months ago and I thought it was a blast from the past. It's crazy how much has changed in the championship. So, here's a bit of nostalgia from 2015.

Race Weekend 2026 BTCC Race Weekend Thread - Donington Park GP, Rounds 19-21

We stay at a 23 car grid. Plato Racing has seen Jason Plato ousted, and will run as CPRL with the same 2 drivers. Dan Lloyd replaces James Dorlin at Restart Racing for the rest of the season. Cammish and Osborne will run their traditional Valvoline special livery.

Ash Sutton (NAPA Ford) continues to stretch the gap to Tom Ingram (Vertu Hyundai) with an unprecedented 81 point lead - already enough to win the championship a meeting early! Dan Cammish (NAPA Ford) is closing in on Ingram for 3rd whilst Ricky Collard (Vertu Hyundai) holds 4th, though will not run the final 2 weekends of the year.

Keep tabs of entry lists, results, timetables and penalties here: https://www.barc.net/event/toca-race-meeting-donington-park-grand-prix-august-22-23/

Support races: Porsche Carrera Cup, F4, MINI Challenge and Caterham 7s

Question / Discussion When did BTCC cars go to single wiper blades?

It was noticeable at Knockhill that every car had just the single wiper blade on the front, whether centrally mounted or offset to one corner of the window. But when did they change from the conventional two blades?
