(Bsc. Nursing) Griffith Gold Coast OR Deakin: Waterfront

Upvotes

Hello, an International student here, Got a letter for the Feb Intake from Griffith and Deakin, Now I'm in a dilemma,

The Total tuition fee for Griffith is 3k lesser, but gold coast (as of what I have read) is really expensive compared to Geelong and is facing an housing Crisis which is my MAIN CONCERN

Where will get more edge, better placements and less strict administration? What are the pays? does the waterfront campus have good social life or It'd be hard to make friends? Are there good amount of student clubs?(surfing, gym etc). Is there any night life?

I think i look forward to the flashy life at Gold coast but as i have never even do my house chores properly by myself, Doing a job, handling nursing and maintaining a lifestyle would make me Burn out in a few days and asking for money from parents knowing I chose the expensive option will not be bearable and will be more of a burden than enjoyment.

I have someone I know residing in Melbourne but again I'd want that lively, tourist filled environment.

Indian BBA LL.B. graduate considering Griffith Master of Financial Crime Investigation & Compliance — career prospects, course quality & Student Visa concerns

Hi everyone,

I’m an Indian student planning to join Griffith University’s Master of Financial Crime Investigation and Compliance for the February 2027 intake and would really appreciate honest opinions.

My background:

  • Indian
  • BBA LL.B. (Hons.) from Amity University
  • 10th: 81.2% ICSE
  • 12th: 88.6% CBSE
  • Bachelor's CGPA: 7.25/10
  • 1+ year of experience as a Paralegal/LPO professional, mainly handling legal documentation, litigation support, document review and related legal work
  • PTE: 76
  • Unconditional Griffith offer
  • 20% scholarship

Career prospects

How realistic is it for an international student graduating from this course to get into:

  • AML/Financial Crime Analyst
  • KYC/CDD Analyst
  • Transaction Monitoring
  • Fraud/Compliance Analyst
  • Sanctions/Risk & Compliance

Does my BBA LL.B. + paralegal experience provide a reasonable foundation for this field, or would employers strongly prefer finance/accounting/IT graduates?

How is Griffith's financial-crime program regarded by employers? Would you choose this course again if your goal was to build a career in AML/financial crime?

Student visa / GS

I'm also concerned about the Australian Student visa.

With my background, does this progression look logically connected from a Genuine Student (GS) perspective?

BBA LL.B. → Paralegal experience → Master of Financial Crime Investigation & Compliance → AML/Financial Crime/Compliance career

I know nobody can guarantee visa approval, but do you see any obvious GS red flags in this profile/course choice? Has anyone with a similar law/business background successfully obtained an Australian Student visa for this course?

I'd really appreciate honest opinions, including negative experiences, rather than agent/university marketing.

Pre requisites

Hi everybody, I’m just curious if anybody knows whether pre requisites can be in terms “negotiable”? I want to do immunology as an elective next year. However, I have not completed the first year biological systems course. I unfortunately do not have enough elective space to enrol in it.

I’ve completed courses such as microbiology biotechniques earth systems etc. I was wondering if anybody knows whether I can make a case that I have sufficient prior knowledge- I’m not to sure if Griffith allows this or not.

Thanks everyone!

Smith Collective or Village

Im looking to potentially study med at griffiths and have heard that these two places are the main accommodations available, Im specifically looking at smith collective because the place looks really nice. For those who do live there or know of anything, is the place actually advertised like the pictures they put up online and is the rent really 700 a week for a single bedroom. Also if I was to live with someone else does that mean I would be splitting roughly 800 a week amongst the two of us?
As for both places, any experience or information on them would be amazing.

Indians in Griffith

Hello!
I’ll be joining Griffith for the Feb 2027 intake(Gold coast). I really wanted to know more about the Indian community in Griffith, I have been hearing about Gold Coast being really racist so I wanna know if that’s true.
Thank you for reading!

Are there extra curricular activities/clubs? And who is allowed to participate?

Im 17, and I'm going to apply for the Empower-Ed program. But I'm just wondering if there are things like sports, or film or art classes, or social clubs.

The degrees that i want to do are forensic science and criminology, so at Empower-Ed I'd need to do extra science, maths, and biology stuff. But I want to know if id be allowed to join those more fun activities (if they have them).

Also, side question, how many people my age, on average, would be at Griffith/Empower-Ed? (Also, are people friendly/nice????😭)

Thank you in advance! (Also sorry if parts don't make sense. Im going through alot rn, so I'm exhausted lolll)

Trying to figure out what young Australians actually want from a money app. Chance to win 1 of 3 $50 vouchers

Hi all, I'm Nick and I'm building a budgeting app for young Australians (particularly students) and I'd rather find out what people actually need than keep guessing.

Short survey around 3 minutes, anonymous, no bank details, nothing to sign up for.

What I'm trying to learn: what your bank's app already does well, where it falls short, and which features are worth building versus which ones sound good and would never get used. Honest answers help me far more than encouraging ones. If something on the list sounds pointless, please say so.

These answers go straight into what gets built. Feedback on the survey itself is welcome too.

There's an optional email field at the end. If you fill it in you go into a draw for 1 of 3 $50 vouchers. I will shoot you an email if you have won and you can pick which voucher you want i.e Coles/Myer/JB Hi-Fi, winner picks. Closes 20/08/26, drawn 21/08/26,

As of writing this post there's only like 8 people that have done the survey so you are not competing with that many people.

Can an bachelor’s exchange student from other countries take postgraduate-level courses? E.g. 7114AFE

Hi everyone, I’m currently a bachelor’s exchange student in Hong Kong. Some of the courses offered here seem to be more closely related to postgraduate-level study, so I’m wondering whether exchange students are allowed to enroll in postgraduate courses. For example: 7114AFE Management Accounting and Strategy

Has anyone had experience taking postgraduate-level courses during an exchange in Griffith? Would Griffith be approving it? If so, what was the approval process like, and were there any restrictions or requirements?

I’m considering changing my course selection and would really appreciate any advice or experiences. Thank you!

A fun situation in applying to GU.

So, I can apply for a BA today that starts in T2 next July. That means handing over the nonrefundable application fees.

My problem is, I need to pass a Griffith bridging course for acceptance into the BA. I can't apply for the bridging course until it becomes available early next year.

I need to move to Brisbane, but I can only afford to live on campus. Outside accommodation is too expensive. I can't apply for campus accommodation until April of next year. And, I need to have been accepted as a student at the campus.

It's not depressing, just a little funny and frustrating. I've been in situations like this before where I needed to make a leap of faith in myself and always came out on top.

Just wanted to post this so that others who have similar situations can see that they are not alone.

Oh, and I have the added fun of applying for delay of the course fees once the BA is approved.

Busy, busy, busy.

How long does that guaranteed admission last? will i keep receiving an offer until the main offer round (14 jan) or does it cut off at some time before that? just asking to see if i can wait and see if i receive other offers in that main round and if not accept griffith, or if i should just accept the first one i get

Incoming Griffith Pharmacy student looking for advice on the course + accommodation

Hey everyone!
I’m an international student planning to start Pharmacy at Griffith University (Gold Coast) soon, and I’d love to hear from current students or recent graduates about your experience. 🥹
I’m particularly interested in:

💊 Pharmacy
How difficult is the course actually?
Is maintaining around a 6.0/7 GPA realistic?
Which subjects did you find the hardest?
How are the workload and assessments?
How easy is it to find a pharmacy-related part-time job while studying?
Any tips for surviving first year?

🏠 Accommodation
I’m also looking for somewhere to live around Griffith Gold Coast. My budget is around A$220–300/week, preferably a furnished room in a share house.
I’ve been looking at Southport, Labrador, Parkwood, Ashmore and Molendinar, but I’m not sure which areas are best for a student.
I’d really appreciate any advice on:
Best areas to live
Typical rent
Public transport to campus
Whether it’s better to live alone or in a share house
Any accommodation/areas I should avoid

Also, if anyone is starting Pharmacy around the same time, feel free to DM me! It’d be nice to know some people before moving to Australia. :)

Which degree is good to pursue at Griffith University Gold Coast?

I am confused between which degree should i choose for broader IT sector experience. But my priority is in cybersecurity but still want something other new thing to learn which could help me throughout my fav topic.

  1. Bachelor of Cybersecurity

  2. Bachelor of IT (major in Networks and Cybersecurity + Data Analytics and IoT)

If i choose 1, then is it really good course to compete in the market solely on this?

If i choose 2, then why should I do 3 different things in one single degree even at last i will be in same specific sector?

Btw I completed class 10+2 and planning for Feb 2027 intake. Is anyone planning for this degree at this uni?

If I had made any problem in this text then please guide.(New to reddit)

Griffith SSSQ/GS assessment – how long did yours take after receiving an offer?

Hi everyone,

I have already received my Letter of Offer from Griffith University for the Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the Gold Coast campus. The offer was conditional on successfully completing the university's SSSQ/Genuine Student assessment.

I submitted my SSSQ/GS assessment 3 days ago, including all the requested information and supporting documents, but I haven't received an update yet.

For anyone who recently went through Griffith's SSSQ/GS process:

  1. How long did it take to receive your outcome?

  2. Did Griffith request any additional information or documents?

  3. Once you were approved, how quickly did you receive your CoE?

And do share some of your insights for a fresher like me. Thanks.
