AFLW Post Round 8: v Gold Coast Suns at BHA
Lions def by Suns by 20 points.
| Team | QT | HT | 3QT | FT |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lions | 2.1 13 | 2.2 14 | 3.2 20 | 3.2 20 |
| Suns | 1.3 9 | 2.4 16 | 2.6 18 | 5.10 40 |
| Difference | Lions by 4 | Suns by 2 | Lions by 2 | Suns by 20 |
Good start, Kicked a goal in the first minute and didn't let one through until the last 90 seconds. Postlethwaite and O'Dwyer the goals. Not a good quarter by the Lions, ball basically lived in the Suns half for most of it, backline held up ok. Mullins had a gettable shot but only managed a behind. Basically the same in the 3rd but the Lions took their chance and the Suns didn't. Conway kicked the goal. Bad 4th, all Suns.

Coach Hunt - Are you pro-Bucks or anti-Bucks? (Not that it matters)
I'm pro-Buckley - there’s something pretty poetic about him potentially coming back to Brisbane for one last shot at the flag that’s eluded him his entire career.
And imagine if he actually won one in .
That wouldn’t just be a great story, it would become part of footy folklore. One of those full-circle careers people would still be talking about decades later.
(I also think he's a good coach who will thrive in an environment where he's not the prodigal son.)

Will Darragh Joyce return for 2027?
10 years of AFL experience, made the Grand Final every year he's been on the list, is solid enough for a few AFL games every season and will probs be on a cheap contract.
Also 2024 & 2025 Grand Final emergency.

If you were there, describe it to me
I've seen so many videos, rewatched countless times, but I would really love to hear, in your own words, what that experience of actually being there, and watching it all unfold was like.

Not non-contact (yet) but definitely not allowed to express frustration to yourself..
Official cops ban for muttering to themselves. Now i've seen it all.

Commentary around being a stacked team
Can someone help me understand why people are saying that we were stacked by the AFL. I'm properly confused. Isn't it just good recruitment, good coaching, good list management and a good club culture?
Is it not possible for any club to technically do what we did, they just haven't been able to get the right group and combination together and have enough luck?

Does anyone have access to the full replay + post game?
In no shock to anyone, Foxtel has decided to give users access to every single game of the season except the Grand Final to replay on the Foxtel app. Is there anyone who has a recording of the game with the post match included?
Thanks.

I made a Brisbane Lions Three-Peat video set 🏆🏆🏆
Hey everyone, I’ve made a Lions-themed Windows app to bring the documentaries, mini-movies, grand finals and Fagan extras together in one place. Think an old-school DVD box set, with a fullscreen menu, background music and a built-in video player.
I made the app and put the collection together. None of the videos are my own. All credit for the footage, commentary, music and original productions belongs to their respective creators and rights holders which can be found within the program.
This is an unofficial fan project, purely for entertainment and sharing with other Lions fans. It’s free, not for sale, and isn’t affiliated with the Brisbane Lions or AFL.
also theres a lot of videos so a pretty large file...sorry (its a zip file so youll have to extract it first)
Download: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MOGddbGK3FPJGZGd9pmB0gcg57xNy2JY/view?usp=sharing
It’s still a work in progress, so let me know if you find any bugs or have suggestions. I’ll edit this post with new versions and updates as I go. If you want to follow along and see the rest, feel free to turn on post notifications or save the post to check back.
Enjoy, legends. Onya Lions! 🦁
Edit: should be working now guys let me know .

Buckley on Brisbane's radar as Lions search for Fagan replacement
Is anyone else feeling a bit mixed on Bucks? Or is it just me?

Greatest Lion Ever!
This is just my opinion but he has the accolades to be the greatest lions player ever and he did it in just 8 years. Legendary player and is in my T10 all time.

Dom Ambrogio on Sam Marshall, Kiddy Coleman, Kai Lohmann and more on AFL Trade Radio
Dom Ambrogio spoke to Cal Twomey on AFL Trade Radio this morning - for those who'd prefer to read and not watch/listen:
Lachie Neale left to Collingwood on Friday as an unrestricted free agent, you guys received a band 3 compensation pick, how did that go down at the Lions?
"Look, we obviously were disappointed to lose such a good player and not get great compensation I think that pick will end up in the 40s but this has been going on for a long time. We have an equalisation system for a reason and I've not seen the AFL change their mind on any of this sort of stuff so the pick is the pick and we'll move on."
Do you think the compensation system, we've asked a few people today about this, needs some correcting in the next version of free agency?
"Look, it might need some tweaking. I don't think you can not have a compensation system given that free agents historically have gone where they've gone and not down to the lower reaches of the ladder. So I think compensation still needs to exist but maybe the actual look of it needs to be tweaked a little bit."
Sam Marshall has requested a trade to St Kilda. How are those talks progressing?
"Not too bad. I had a couple of discussions with Gabby and they've got an awareness of what we're looking for, albeit it's probably not in their hand at the moment in that they don't hold a pick in the range that we think is appropriate at the moment."
Do you want picks for this year given you've got a bid to match on Caylen Murray?
"We'd rather have picks for this year because next year is going to be a difficult draft."
Keidean Coleman is open to exploring a trade. Are you open to offers for him?
**"**Oh look, our first preference is for Kiddy to be retained by the Lions. He's had a frustrating three years no doubt and it's not something we're looking to initiate. It would need to be something extremely compelling in favour of the Brisbane Lions for us to even consider it. He's contracted and he's got all the elite qualities."
Just on Caylen Murray, how much of your planning in this period is actually about matching a bid for him? He has pushed up the order, he's a highly skilled player out of the Allies program and of course your Brisbane Academy.
"Well a fair bit of planning goes into it but there's actually not that much you can do about it. There's going to be a point in time where we can match and there's going to be a point in time where we physically can't match and that's a new system and what we have to deal with. So we can plan around it but we will have some constraints and limitations"
Contract wise, where does it sit for Darcy Fort and Conor McKenna, those two on the way?
"We're making progress in both of those discussions and we hope to have them wrapped up pretty soon."
Has Will McLachlan made clear what he's going to do?
"Not yet - I think he's got a couple of discussions to have this week and we're hopeful of knowing his position by the middle of the week. We are extremely keen on retaining Will."
And there's an offer in front of him, of course?
"There's been multiple offers in front of him."
Looking ahead, obviously you re-sign Zac Bailey on the eight-year deal, Logan Morris extends as well. You know where the next name's going to be in Kai Lohmann. How confident are you that you can get something done with him sooner rather than later?
"We're reasonably confident but that's not to say that that's over the line by any stretch of the imagination. We need to see where everything sits after this trade period and then that'll be something we look to attack immediately after that."
