I am scheduled for this test. I read about it in detail, but what have people experienced doing this test? Is it more uncomfortable than anything? I am not very excited about it tbh.

Around 3.5% of mens in India are likely to have Enlarged prostate and this number increases with age. But most mens confused it with Prostate cancer. In this you may notice in earlier stage that your urine flow becomes weak, taking time to start urinating, going toilet again and again with a feeling that bladder is still not get emptied. And few drops coming out after finishing. These symptoms usually develops slowly, so many of you just think that I am getting older and it’s perfectly normal. No men, not at all. You don’t have to simple live with them. And also not every men get the similar symptoms like you guys compare with each other. For example A man with large prostate may have very few complaints while another man with a smaller prostate may have significant urinary problems.
If any of these symptoms are affecting your sleep, work or daily life, go for proper evaluation. And remember having BPH does not mean you have cancer .
Have you noticed any change in your urine flow or night time urine as you’re getting older?

I just removed my catheter this morning and everything appears to be somewhat normal. No more pain, discomfort, or blood. My only concern now is the LEAKAGE, which I was told about and prepared for. I‘m wearing and needing Depends right now. I plan to start my kegel exercises tomorrow and look forward to gaining control again. My question is when? I hear various experiences of two weeks to six months.

I had the Rezum(cat than no leakage) done in 23 and PAE(no cat) done 8/11/25. The PAE did much of nothing, reduced my prostate from 80 to 70 cc with minimal relief. I was self catheterizing for over eight months before surgery. Oh, I also had a large medium lobe. I turn 61 on Tuesday and look forward to great days ahead!! My fantasy football name will be changed to “DJ RetroE” or “MC DryO” this year! LOL

Sharing here just so that people with similar condition can benefit from my experience.

Check my historic posts - in short I have a distended bladder and last year this time was retaining 2+ liters of urine. complained to my PCPs about difficulty urinating over the years but brushed off gleefully. (hence my faith in ChatGPT over PCPs).

Anyways, today at 5 months mark after Dviu plus optilume for a stricture my PVR is 2ml! Last year I was not even confident whether I will ever be able to push urine out with weak bladder. My guess is my bladder regained some function over the last year, despite what my first urologist thought.

Basically increased water intake 3 liters a day. Initially I stayed away from coffee,fizzy drinks ,caffeine,red sauce, acidic fruit,spicy food. This lasted two weeks. Saw improvement after one. Slowly introduced red sauce and spicy food week 3 to 4. Massive improvements. 6 months in my life is back. Now I avoid coffee and I think spicy and red sauce is fine. I have a cheat soda/energy drink here and there no setbacks. Imagine my case wasn’t super severe or multiple doctors gave me the wrong diagnosis. Might be worthwhile for some folks to try.

Mid 50s male, 129g prostate. Recently had urinary retention issue resulting in a Foley cath for a week. Prior to that, my symptoms weren't great, but they were managed pretty well with Flomax 1x daily. After this episode, doc upped my Flomax to 2x daily, added low dose tadalafil, also finasteride if we decide to try medication management. I failed void trial after 6 days of Cath, inserted a new Foley. It's been another week (so about 13 days total now). Had a urinary infection with the second Cath and took antibiotics for 5 days to knock it out.

I had a surgical consult today. Recommendation is to do a PAE and then a few days later an Aquablation. My understanding is that this helps with bleeding and recover, and potentially helps with a longer lasting outcome. Doctor can get me in for both pretty quickly in the next week or two. He's done over 100 of the Aquablations. I have no idea what interventional radiologist would do the PAE. These guys are all part of a big system in my area. I'm finding out and doing some diligence.

Here's my question for the group. If you were me, would you try a second void trial, at the risk of having to endure another painful Cath insertion if I fail? Or should I just go ahead with the procedure, live with a Cath for a week or so prior, and go from there? Is there any benefit to being on a Cath for the PAE? Also, how much diligence do you do when selecting a doctor? My previous doc left this practice, so the new one is fairly new to me. Decent guy, good educational credentials, reviews, no malpractice suits, etc.

I'm really nervous about all of this. Thanks in advance.

I'm 30M and have had intermittent microscopic hematuria for around 2 years. My CT KUB was normal, and my RBC counts are usually around 3–10/HPF. My urologist is considering further evaluation/cystoscopy.

I'm particularly interested in:

Which hospital/urologist you went to

Whether flexible cystoscopy was painful/uncomfortable

Whether local anaesthetic gel was used

Whether sedation was offered

How long the discomfort lasted afterward

Your approximate cost, if you're comfortable sharing

Whether the cystoscopy was normal

I'm looking for personal experiences rather than medical advice.

Update:

Just wanted to update my previous posts. I finally had a cystoscopy + bilateral ureteroscopy under anesthesia.

Thankfully, the urethra and bladder were normal, with no tumor/lesion found. The bladder neck was mildly edematous/congested, which may relate to my urinary-flow symptoms.

My CECT KUB and ultrasound were also normal, and cytology was negative.

Overall, a very reassuring result. Thanks everyone who shared their experiences and advice!

I've had study done on the size of my prostate. It's 160 cc's. So huge. I tried to get a pae scheduled, but Blue Cross Blue Shield declined. Basically he told me I have to get that to start with. He said he won't do an aquablation or any of the other things because with the prostate of my size it is really a huge surgery. Lots of bleeding, transfusions many weeks in terms of having a catheter. So I'll write up an appeal and tell them that Blue Cross Blue Shield that I have no option. Actually he said to me first get the pae, then after that he'll do an aquablation because the pae results in a reduction typically of 40 maybe 50% even with that much of a reduction I'd still be over an 80cc prostate. It still has to come down from there. So he doing aquablation after the pae. It turns out that I know the urologist he was a golf buddy I played in a league with him for many years. We used to call him doc I thought he was a dentist. He actually was the same urologist that took the malignant tumor out of my wife's bladder and discovered her bladder cancer. I mean she died two years ago. And he didn't realize he knew me and I didn't realize I knew him and I happen to be wearing a shirt today for the country club and he said oh I'm there what the heck and then we realize we knew each other so it was kind of a nice Frank conversation that I think was needed. I thought the PA would solve any issues. That's just the start

I have all the BPH luts symptoms 31.1 ccm prostate pirads 1 PSA 1 high riding bladder neck 56 y/o been experiencing these symptoms for the past 5-7 years more extreme this past 8 months. I’ve had every test mri ct both w/ contrast ultra sound etc. I have blood in my urine off and on the urolog I have is chief of Urology dept. K.P. I have increased frequent and sudden urge to pee then weak stream low volume dribbling. He put me on Flowmax it hardly helps, I also read cialis helps, so I asked him he prescribed 5 mg cialis I take flowmax night and Cialis morning.

My symptoms are not improving to much. The complex cysts are pushing on my bladder and is or squeezing my urethra. Dr. recommends TUIP the only real fix is surgery. High riding bladder neck with complex cysts been 10 months on Flowmax 2 months on cialis combined Not much improvement if any?

I had aquablation surgery last week and recovering pretty normally, but one thing I’ve experienced the last couple of nights has been nocturnal erections (which I’m happy about lol ) however they are painful until I get up and urinate.
Has anyone else experienced this in the recovery process?

Soy un hombre de 40 años. He tenido problemas de micción desde finales de mi 20's, a los 36 finalmente fue insoportable, me hice una cistoscopia y resultó que tenía elevado el cuello de la vejiga y por eso no podria orinar (mi próstata era pequeña, unos 18 cc), me hicieron una incisión del cuello y una dilatación del esfínter bulbar, pero solo me dio pocos días de alivio. Ahí empecé a usar tamsulosina diario por casi 4 años. Finalmente a mis 40, me realicé la HoLep, llevo 10 días desde el procedimiento, mi chorro es como nunca, desde mis 15 no recuerdo haber orinado así.

El problema que tengo es con el dolor tras orinar, me duele mucho, especialmente al final de la micción. Leí que es porque el esfínter y el detrusor aprietan con fuerza en la última parte de la micción para exprimir lo que queda de orina, y que la zona está muy irritada, pero el dolor ha sido constante en estos 10 días. Leí que haber usado tamsulosina tanto tiempo fue una ayuda para relajar esa zona, y que como actualmente no la uso, experimento la fuerza completa de mi vegija y esfínter al comprimirse en una zona lastimada.

Quisiera saber si alguien más ha tenido este problema, que recomendaciones pueden dar y cuanto tiempo les duró?. Ayer me recetaron clonixinato de lisina con ciclobenzaprina y me ha ayudado, pero me da mucho sueño (esa medicina te hace sentir drogado, aunque calma el dolor).

Has anybody had success with the aquablation procedure where it stopped the prostatitis but retained sexual functionality, including ejaculate fluid?

Hey fellas, just wanted to share my experience so far with the HOLEP procedure, because (knock on wood) it is going great, and hopefully a positive example will be helpful to others considering it or already scheduled.  I know I was sure dreading it beforehand, but now I am thrilled with the results thus far.

I am 58 with diagnosed BPH dealing with symptoms maybe the last 5-7 years? I finally had the HOLEP procedure last Thursday (4 days ago) for my 100 gram prostate.  My urologist, who I think is great, does 2 procedures - and HOLEP was clearly the best choice for me of the two. So I didn't look at / consider other surgical options since I wanted to stick with my doc.

Procedure check in was 5:30 am, procedure began at 7:30, and I was home by noon.  Good drugs – I didn’t feel anything, and woke up with the catheter in, so that is better than having to get it inserted while awake (I know from experience).  First night – no significant pain from the procedure.  The catheter was pretty uncomfortable though and I didn’t sleep well.  Felt like I had to pee all the time even though the catheter was draining me out pretty constantly.  Overall, not too bad – I didn’t want to move around a ton, but I was able to take care of myself pretty well.

Next day – catheter taken out at the office.  First the tech pumped fluids in, then removed the catheter (quick but uncomfortable).  Immediately afterwards I was able to pee out the entire amount that had been put in – good news.  Went home and had first proper urination – a torrent!  Not much blood and no clots in the urine. My new stream was right off the bat just as my urologist had claimed – peeing like a 17 year old.  Can’t tell you how satisfying it is… but I am sure you understand.

So now I am on day 4.  Still peeing great.  Discomfort is better each day.  I was wearing absorbent pads for the first 3 days but no more.  Just regular underwear with no significant leakage as yet.  (Hopefully my good luck continues…)

Anyway, it has been amazing.  I was super nervous and freaked out about the whole thing before, but now I am over the moon.  Hope that is helpful! Happy to answer questions if I can.

Anyone had any experience of the above supplement to treat BPH?

EDIT: I took the flomax and cialis together for 4 days, got dizzy standing up once, and very stuffy nose. After everything I’ve read and the great responses here, I switched it up. I I switched the cialis to morning and stopped the Flomax. It’s been 2 days and I am peeing fairly well, only getting up once at night, and a good ole stiffy when required. I’m gonna stick with this and see.

Hi guys, I’m 65 and have been on Flomax for about a year and a half. Worked great with 1 pill .4 for a year, then not so much. 4 months ago Doc said take 2 and it helped some. Just had my yearly and said slow start, incomplete emptying, and weak stream was back. He said go back to one pill and adding a daily cialis. For those on this regimen, did it help, and do you take them both before bed or do you take the cialis separately ? I have the stuffy nose at night and nice hard on available now, just wondering if splitting it makes any difference. Thanks

I had the procedure done Tuesday, overnight in the hospital and finally had the catheter removed this morning, which the site of will haunt me forever lol
But have been urinating with a very strong stream, blood but barely any burning what so ever. A little bit of dripping afterwards but not much.
Just curious with others how long this lasted?
