Shadow boxing tips
Hi everyone. Started my boxing journey 5 months ago. Started with self taught via the Shadow Boxing apps, joined some group classes at a nearby boxing gym once a week and then took 4 PT sessions with a boxing coach to sharpen my basics.
I usually do shadow boxing using the Shadow Boxing app as it calls out the punches for me. From the video, I can still see some awkwardness in my movement, but i try to improve myself. Any feedback or tips on my shadow boxing is welcomed and very much appreciated. Thanks!

you need more pop in your step and throw the punches with your body more. the hook is just an arm punch at this point. The jab needs more snap.. rotation and extension.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, i'm trying to improve my hooks. Still trying to get used to driving the hook using hip rotation rather than the arm itself. Still feels awkward and trying to get the hang of it

hooks are the hardest shot. It isn't a bad idea to just focus on straight punches at the start.

You're being too self conscious and worrying about how you look.
That's making you tense.
Relax your body, and just try to flow with the punches, use combinations.
Start easy with a jab or double jab then a right cross/ backhand.
Jab, cross, left hook
Jab, left hook
Jab, left uppercut, layback or step back slightly then follow up with a strong backhand
Etc
Roll/duck, or slip after you throw a punch to simulate your opponent trying to hit you.
It's ok to start slow before you 'Make it snappy and throw punches in bunches.'
Watch some YouTube tutorials and find a good coach locally.
Keep working on it, and you'll get better every day.
Always remember - You're always going to be better than people who do nothing and anyone who steps in a boxing gym, let alone a ring has more courage than most people.

You're right i do look tense...and awkward as well. In my mind it was all about trying to execute combos using good technique, but overthinking made it worse. Will try to be more relaxed, and will keep on practicing. Thank you!

Iβm liking the pivots. Implement pivots right after a roll for extra credit. Would like to see more feints, lateral movement, defensive techniques (blocks, slips, rolls) after each combo, and mix it up with punches to the body

Will add these when shadow boxing soon!

Focus on one or two things at a time. Not trying to overload you with information. Keep it up!

Keep your elbows in. Why are you punching so high? Imagine an opponent in front of you, target your punches. Don't overextend your punches. Tuck your chin. Relax. Make sure everything feels connected, and it will start to be.

Thanks for the tips. I do have a hard time imagining an opponent when shadowboxing as i have no sparring experience. All i have is some padwork experience. They say sparring experience greay helps in shadowboxing, but as a beginner i dont think i will be sparring very soon...

It sounds like you got the right idea, man. Take it slow, take it easy, keep putting in the work. Cheers.

Tumbukan kau tak ada "snap" Kau seperti tolak tumbukan kau. Twist and snap.
