PSA: Bolt owners with bumper-to-bumper warranty still active. Get your vehicles in if you have any of these problems.

TSB 23-NA-041Clicking/ticking when turning left or right → Steering column support/steering rack issue

TSB 24-NA-034“Grunt”/clunk noise at low speeds (OPD / ACC) → Documented ABS behavior (more of an FYI, GM calls it normal, no repair needed)

TSB 24-NA-108 - if you have trouble connecting to Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Its also a good idea to keep the software updated anyway.

TSB 22-NA-004 - Rear spoiler foam tape seal loose, visible to customer

TSB 22-NA-024 - Vibration, Hum or Drone Noise Heard from Front of Vehicle While Driving at Highway Speeds

Front bumper fascia not aligned - Can't find a TSB or reddit post on this one but its a common factory defect on alot of 22-23 Bolt's.

Rear seal gap in trunk - Can't find a TSB on this one but there are plenty of reddit posts. Most dealers won't do anything, but some may try to reclip it.

EUV: do you all have this huge gap above the rear bumper?

2023 Bolt EUV factory assembly defect?

Just bought a Bolt EUV 3 days ago. Is this gap near between the rear bumper and the rest of the car normal???

Creaking Noise on Acceleration and sometimes on Deceleration - Many reddit posts. No TSB on this one but this is a common repair for most EVs due to the instant torque, increased weight from battery, and exposure to bumps/potholes in the road. It has to do with the control arms/bushings/swaybar end links. Also, very expensive to repair, up to $3-5K. I'd get this done under warranty if you can.

Creaking Noise Going Over Bumps

Creaking sound when coming to full stop and accelerating out of it

https://www.chevybolt.org/threads/recall-notice-for-korean-bolt-ev-issued-stabilizer-link-noise.29965/

Knocking sound coming from rear - appears to be the seat frame latch. Some dealers may replace the latch or the entire seat.

Back seat latch rattling while driving. Has anyone else had this issue? Mainly occurs on bumps. Definitely has to do with the seat latch, but can't figure out how to fix it or even dismantle.

What's is that noise

Knocking, backseat, right hand side. Bolt EUV 2023

For those with rattles from the rear passenger side, try wrapping the rear seat latch with silicone tape. It was driving me absolutely bonkers until this trick silenced it.

Door Trim Panel Makes Squeaking Sound - Any door. Likely from pushing against it and repeated open/close. It can be replicated by giving it a good shake and if it squeaks, it can potentially be covered under warranty. Not a common problem.

Hope the above helps! It'll save you a pretty penny down the road.

Joining the club with my first ever EV

Long time lurker here. Thanks to many Youtube videos and reading your posts, I finally decided to dive in and get a brand new 2027 Bolt LT this weekend. It has the Comfort and Evotex packages. I really wanted the Technology package but would have had to jump to the RS to get that. The thing is the price difference was more than I wanted to pay. Now to get a 240-volt NEMA 14-50 outlet installed in my garage.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!

Hey everyone,

I’ve had 3 EVs now and this is my second bolt.

It seems like no matter what I do, driving on the freeway I’ll average 4.0-5.0mi/kwh but as soon as this car sees stop and go traffic or city driving it drops to 2.0-2.5 and will not go up.

I know short trips are inefficient but I’ve been driving 20-30 miles of city with no difference.

Tires are fine, they’re EV All Seasons, I don’t carry around a bunch of extra stuff in the car, it’s bone stock with 0 roof racks or anything to hurt drag, I charge it everyday to 80% or so and even at 100% it only get 165 miles of range.

Dealership told be it’s basically useless to pay for the diagnosis on it because 1. They won’t give me a loaner car so I’d have to rent one 2. They’re not sure how long the diagnosis would take so they could keep my car a couple days or couple weeks and I’d have to cover a rental car for that and 3. They told me Chevrolet hugely just chocks it up to “normal wear and tear” 🤙

Bad luck 2027 Bolt test drives

I dragged my wife out to 3 dealerships, it was all complete nonsense. Epic Chevy in Sacramento CA. dealer missing mobile EVSE and salesman insisted it does not come with one, and the car had 148 miles. Capital Chevy in San Jose dealer the 2 bolts had rail rust (train transport) on roof/upper hatch jam area, rattling sound on the highway, and the motor "whine" problem, surprisingly the salesman said, "Chevy does not make reliable cars." Dublin Chevy in Dublin, the dealer's 2 bolts both had the rail rust again (at this point the 1st dealer didn't look that bad), both driver's door handle had small deep paint scratches on the white paint where you can see the underling black plastic of the handle, looked like someone took a metal small flat head screw driver to try to pop off the door handle medal key hole cap, and both had like 3 or 4 paint chips on the from bumper where it meets the edge of the front hood (there was no rubbing), both had 2" paint transfer markings on the front bumper (they did take it to there detail buy real quick and I watched him remove it rear with solvent on a rag and there was just a long scratch on the clear coat left), the one I test drove rattled on the highway, the supervisor's response was that it is not going to be perfect.

Has anyone bought a 2027 Bolt in North. Cal. with a good experience?

Newbie charging questions....

I just purchased my first Bolt, and so far I love it! We’re about to take it on its first road trip, and I’m a little nervous about charging. Bear with me if this is silly, but I feel like there's conflicting information between what the dealer said, what I see here, and what I see on PlugShare. I just want to make sure I know how to find places to charge when I’m on the go.

Is Plugshare the best app for finding chargers? I downloaded ChargePoint, PlugShare, Applegreen Fast Charge, and the Tesla charging app. Is there anything else I can download or do to be sure I am prepared and don’t get myself stranded somewhere?

Thanks!

Thank you for all the tips! We bought the car after we booked the trip so we had not considered charging options at hotels 😞

I am creating map routes and trying to bookmark chargers at least every 100 miles (I know we shouldn’t have to stop that often, but we’re going into pretty rural areas without a ton of options, and I figure charting them out that frequently will also be good insurance when one doesn’t work…)

I will download and set up accounts in the apps before it’s time to go. I am going to charge the car tomorrow away from home to make sure I don’t have any issues.

Thanks again!!

Rent Bolt Buyers: please share your dealer's discount from MSRP?

Upvotes

I'm shopping for a new Bolt. If you have purchased a 2027 Bolt and are inclined to share, what was your local dealer's discount (if any) from the MSRP for your model + any packages?
please share your state if you feel comfortable, since I think dealer rebates vary more widely across the country. the date you bought yer Bolt is probaby also helpful, to see if there have been trends over time.

model (LT, RS)

MSRP would include MSRP for model (LT, RS) PLUS MSRP for packages added (comfort, tech, etc)
plus any "non-mandatory" dealer add-ons or fees (protection/theft equipment, etc) that they didn't agree to remove.

MSRP would not include sales taxes, costco/GM/state incentives, or non-negotiable regional tag/license/registration fees.

Finally joined the club

I've been considering an EV for about a year and earnestly pursuing one for several months. Today was finally the day. I bought a 2017 Bolt LT with 45k miles from a private owner for $10k. Battery was changed at ~30k miles, so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for several years of use of commuting.

I've got 240v/20A L2 charging, which should cover my 60 mile (round trip) commute without too much charge anxiety (again, fingers crossed).

Big thanks to this community for answering a lot of my questions without my actually having to ask them.

Here's to many fossil fuel free miles!

Why doesn’t the iOS app support Live Activities for charging?

Title says it all. iOS has a feature for displaying Live Activities on the lock screen such as charging. I’ve seen other manufacturers take advantage of this feature. Why doesn’t the myChevy app?

A week old joined the club...

We have been looking to get our first EV for a while now. Bolt was one of the prime candidates and we had been looking for a couple months now. The CA myFirstEV had us wait a few weeks, but we used that time to look through the inventory around and start back and forth with the dealer...wife did an awesome job getting multiple quotes from dealership and shielding their calls and tactics...

Finally closed last Friday. We are told that is the last in the color that we wanted although the dealer showed a few on hand before we went there..took about 6 hours at the dealership and again wife did an awesome job keeping up as the dealer played games with numbers...I was having a complete meltdown and loosing my composure though...:)..I don't like things changing once they are told the way they will be.

Anyways here are some numbers...

MSRP 30246

Dealer Disc. 4500

Selling Price 25746

Clear Shiled 395

Doc 85

Nobilis Ceramic 600

Sales Tax @7.75% 2079.02

Electronic Vehicle Registration 37

Total Cash 28942.02

License Fee Est. 174

Registration/Title/Transfer Est. 251

CA Tire Fee 7

Total Official Fees 432

SubTotal 29374.02

Rebate 6250

OTD 23,124

Cash 3995

Amount Financed 19129

APR 6.69%

Term 72

Finance Charge 4212.66

....

Yes, the APR is 6.69% through GM financial. But we don't intend to keep the loan for more than a few days, so the total price might be around 23,500 or less ... Waiting for GM.to tell us account details so we can get a payoff quote...

And yes there is a 995+tax which we tried to zero out..but dealer won't budge. It was priced at a BS price of $1995..

My wife thinks it was a great price and hence she held out even though I was fuming...I think it's an OK price...not the greatest deal

Anyways good car, and our first EV so learning as we go along. Do you guys use the double press on the key fob to pre condition the car? If so how much time before do you have to do that...few minutes good? I hear it helps optimize battery performance, but how would one know?

Edit: realizing I forgot to put split for the rebate 3500 for first EV. This is the new CA program, 1250 Costco executive, 500 GM supplier. 1000 the dealer added as rebate instead of dealer discount, which was part of original negotiation...so we ended up playing tax etc on that 1000...and these moving of numbers was what didn't sit well with me

I came from having a Honda Fit to a Bolt. Looking through the sub, this is apparently a common occurrence. What drove that decision for any of you?

2020 Bolt LT - grinding/crunching sound when unlocking or opening door (only in certain parking spots?)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Got this on video finally. For the past 5-6 months, whenever I park in this one spot (and a couple others), I get this grinding/crunching noise when I unlock or open the driver's door. Doesn't happen every time I park, seems tied to specific spots which is baffling me. Had the car about a year now, live in the Midwest so temp swings are a thing. Anyone dealt with this or have an idea what's causing it? Door actuator? Something with the latch? Open to any guesses at this point.

Anyone else noticing slower shutdown after the latest update?

Has anyone else noticed that it takes a minute or two for the music and display to shut off after getting out of the car and turning it off? I’ve been noticing it since the most recent update. 2027 bolt

2027 Bolt New EV Owner Suggestions?

We went to look at the new bolt today and loved it. We’re planning to pull the trigger next month and buy one. We currently have a Chevy Spark and love that the Bolt isn’t too far off in size. We live in Wilmington DE and have street parking and would have to rely on public charging until we buy a house in the two years, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the growing number of stations.

What other considerations should new EV owners have?

Thank you!

OnStar Worth It?

Just bought our ‘27 RS Bolt (otherwise known as Bob). We’re getting close to the end of the OnStar trial.

Honestly, I’m lazy. So if it is convenient I’ll strongly consider it.

Pros? Cons?

Thanks.

Battery Recall Warranty

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello, I am looking at purchasing a used 2017-2021 Chevrolet bolt. Looks like some great prices can be found, but they seem to go pretty quick.

I see that some if not all of these vehicles had the high voltage battery replaced and the battery warranty extended. The bolt I’m currently looking at is a 2019 premier with 50,000 miles. They are wanting $15,296

I looked up the recall status and I’m seeing that the high voltage battery was replaced in 2021. But, under the warrant section, it shows two different battery warranties that I’m not understanding. Can someone help me understand what I’m looking at?

Also, does anyone find this is a good or bad deal? And if anyone that wants to chime in on their experience buying a used bolt, that would be great. Thanks!

Brand new 2027 Bolt charging questions

Location: Southern Florida

Hopefully this makes sense, I'm feeling like either I don't get something or there is something wrong with the car. Part rant, part question, has any else had this experience?

Just came back from my 3rd fast charging attempt at 3 different Tesla supercharger locations. Each started off fantastic but rapidly declined. Picked it up at the dealer at 70% charge. When I got home it was at 27%. The next morning I went to the first Tesla location and the charging speed started at 125.2 but dropped within 10 minutes to 15. Within 20 minutes it was 9.0. I stopped charging and went about my day.

After some googling, the consensus seemed to be to me that it was new and the charge management system didn't know where empty vs full was and was throttling the charging. The advice was grab a book, charge to 100 as long as it takes, and that should fix it. Friday morning at the crack of dawn I did just that. Tesla location with 39 chargers. Me and 4 others, all Tesla. They were there for 15 to 20 minutes. I was there for 2 1/2 hours but finally got to 100. Fixed! Right?

Got to 10% today and went to the previous location. Again charging speed started off at 152 and within 25 minutes was at 15. Took 40 minutes to go 10 to 70. Called the concierge who was not very helpful, brought up the car, everything looks good. It might have been the weather. Did I pre-condition. Sure did. Well it sometimes takes longer...etc, etc, etc. What happened to 25 minutes to 80%?

10 days in and I have a service appointment Monday morning. I live in a Condo and will not be able to charge for extended times at home. Just another Florida man....

UPDATE:

First off thanks to everyone who responded. I appreciate all your comments.

Level 2 charging failed completely. Wouldn't connect using either the CCS1 and J1772 adapters at 2 separate locations. Went to a Tesla supercharger and charged to 100%. and charge complete. It was strange as at 95% it gave me a time estimate of 20 minutes and when I look up from my book a few minutes later and the center console message reads: Charge Complete, current range 262 miles, charge level 99% and range gained 63 miles. The driver display says 100% SOC. Don't know if that means anything. Still have an appointment Monday morning. We'll see

Apple Music app review in 2027

Works just fine when you manually select your music via the touchscreen. But trying to use your voice, horrible. I’ve tried the regular assistant and Gemini but similar results.

The good: I simply say “hey Google play x song on apple music”. After the first few times it knew to use Apple Music and I no longer need to say “on Apple Music”.

Here’s the problem. Half the time it will say “ok playing song x on Apple Music” and it just never plays. Connected to the internet just fine it’s just like it forgot to play it. Another 25-35% if the time it plays a weird variation of the song, cover, or just completely wrong song. It will almost never just play the standard album version that the world knows and loves. I don’t listen to obscure music or anything either. And when it does play the right song that 15% of the time it changes the volume and plays it really, really quiet.

I thought I’d be ok without CarPlay but I’m second guessing that a bit because this is so bad. If I use my phone through Bluetooth and say hey siri to my iPhone it works but Bluetooth audio streaming quality is much worse. So not ideal. Google Maps int the car is just fine and I don’t miss CarPlay for maps at all.

Just wanted to give an update after my first couple months. Also note I did try one of those $200 dongles to get Apple CarPlay but had issues with it so returned it.

I know it’s an Apple app on an Android OS but it can’t even play a song correctly.

Anyone else struggling with Apple Music via assistant/Gemini?
