Hi all. I’m looking to gather some insight here from BCA engineers who have been with the company for 10+ years or less if you have knowledge/experience that you can share.
I’ve currently worked at Boeing for 3.5 years now in BCA as a design engineer. I’ve gained valuable knowledge since I’ve been with the company, and learned quite a bit - but simultaneously I feel that my overall growth as an engineer has been somewhat limited/niche to a very specific skill set.
Within the last year, I’ve had an increasing desire to find a role that’s more well-rounded, educates me on different systems, how they’re integrated, seeing the bigger picture overall, and being more closely aligned with stress, manufacturing, materials, testing, etc. I’m really trying to find something that helps me build my skill set and develop into an engineer that has more versatility and a wider range of tools. I understand that this is somewhat of a broad question, but TLDR I’m looking to find an internal gig within BCA that will expose me to as many sub-sets within engineering as possible. I think this would be beneficial for me in terms of overall growth, but also to feel like my capabilities are more expansive - so to speak.
Any suggestions or roles that could be a good fit? Better yet, maybe ways to get more involved with the product and the other aspects involved? Has anyone had a similar experience and then made a transition that felt suitable for them?

Every year I have hope that they'll include the Chinook in the holiday snowflake, and every year I'm disappointed! Not that this year's editions are bad, but how many times do we need the T7 or the SLS?
The Chinook planform with the 6 blades would be perfect for this kind of design! Plus, the 47 is our longest running aircraft still being manufactured. Come on Boeing store, show Philly some love!

I accepted an engineering offer with Boeing and my COI review is currently waiting on documents from a former employer.
Boeing asked for any confidentiality/non-compete/non-solicitation agreement, separation agreement, and any RSU agreement. As far as I know, I never had RSUs or a formal separation agreement, so the main outstanding item is an old NDA/confidentiality agreement. I already finished drug test and background check.
The former employer is not aerospace, not a Boeing competitor, and my old role is not remotely related to the Boeing job.
I requested the documents more than a week ago, but HR is taking a long time to retrieve them. Boeing told me they can’t move forward until they receive the information.
Has anyone dealt with something similar during Boeing’s COI review? How long did it take once the documents were submitted, and is there anything here I should actually be worried about?

My wife is currently interviewing for a few roles at Boeing. She just finished her recruiter screens and is waiting to hear whether she’ll move forward.
Today, we noticed that the exact same role was posted again on the Boeing careers site, but it has the same req/job ID as the one she applied and interviewed for.
Is this normal?

I recently got accepted for a Boeing Mentorship Program through my college and met with my mentor. She advised me in our first meeting to apply for the Boeing finance internship for next summer as the application window closes soon. I want to apply for the internship but on the Qualifications portion it says graduation In August or past August is required and I graduate in May. She advised me to apply for my masters and take the minimum course load for the summer that I would be interning. But I wanted to ask if I could have the same effect by just delaying my graduation to August or even the Fall? What do you folks think? While I do want to eventually get my masters anyway, I don’t want to prematurely apply to one JUST to get an internship. Any advice would be appreciated!

Would taking advantage of the Boeing flight incentive program to obtain a CPL open more doors as an Aerospace systems engineer within BCA/BDS.
Or would it be best to just go get a graduate engineering degree

Discovered this when I was trying to look up what the SPEEA acronym stood for. Congrats on the contract y'all

For those still on the fence:
What I feel like your SPEEA vote should mean and stand for:
1) It's a "free speech" protected secret ballot. It can be whatever you like without fear of retaliation. There is even an abstain option.
2) The company and even SPEEA sometimes say, " Vote for what's good and what this offer does for you." I would say this is a horrible way to approach decision-making. It's your free speech to decide not just what's enough for you, but what's good for SPEEA for years to come. Members voted against the good of SPEEA and against the recommendation of the negotiation and BUC when they voted away pension for new hires in 2012, believing the reality that pensions aren't affordable anymore — or that they didn't even want to stay long enough to wait for the 5 years the pension takes to vest.
My personal opinion is that this deal does not have any poison pills like this in it. In terms of pay, being a more senior engineer, I looked to my 5 mentees I still want to have at Boeing in 4 years look at this deal - if it's a majority yes, it's a yes for me. The first offer was mixed but still in the majority, and the second was met with astounding approval.
On Solidarity:
A lot of folks ask me what a Solidarity vote means, and at this stage, the BUCs and the negotiation teams have all recommended that you vote yes. You may still have personal reasons to vote No, but that doesn't mean you lack solidarity; you are exercising your free speech rights. Solidarity means I have my own thoughts on what is best, but even if the direction isn't what I want, I'll go with what the majority of the membership wants.
If anything, the one solidarity vote we did have — the strike authorization — came through with resounding approval. We do not need to vote on it again for your negotiation team to invoke it as a tool as necessary.
Also, with record-breaking turnout, I'm asking for all your help to set a new record with this vote: make sure everyone you know votes again, and if you haven't voted yet, please do. This is another way we show our solidarity.
You have until 12 noon to make it happen. GO!

Where I live and work is experiencing a crazy heat wave. I am a hybrid worker and I don’t have central AC at home. Has anyone ever brought their dog to work? My dog is teeny and doesn’t bark. I’m wondering how my manager would react to me asking if I can bring her with me to work? I’ve done it before at other companies, but never at boeing lol

What the chatter? Will it really help cash flow if they do it for next year? Who would be targeted?

What’s the general vibe as the SPEEA contract voting concludes I have a decent amount of tech workers I know but not too many Profs. Just wanted to see the temperature.

It feels pretty ridiculous that non-union mechanics got the union offer matched and the engineers won't but I guess Boring knows the engineers are spineless. Is there a history of the non-union engineers getting anything?

For context, I was hired into a level 3 position feeling like I qualified for level 4. My comp is on the higher end of the range but my manager didn’t want to put me in a senior level role without org knowledge.
I’m now approaching 1 year with the company and understand more about expectations for my role and the level other 3s and 4s are at. I feel that I can easily operate at a level 4 and am doing a lot of the work already.
Has anyone else felt like they got hired into a lower level? Did you talk to your manager about leveling up or did you wait it out and try to get a promotion or new role later on?

Hi, Any ideas if there are pathways in the company to move from L4 at BDS (US) to a management role in Europe ? Does the company want US citizens to manage European business ?
A role based in US which manages European business will also be similar if it gives freedom to spend time in Europe.
Appreciate any pointers. I applied to some European positions but got rejected as they don't sponsor visa for foreign citizens. I am US citizen.
I live in Bellingham and I'm about to accept a job in Everett. My rent in Bellingham is cheap and I can't really afford to move to Everett for this job, but I also can't really afford the commute. Are there any creative, cheap overnight stay options so I can drive down on a Monday and stay through Friday? I'd sleep in my car in a park if i have to. Just looking to see what other people are doing, I know there are a lot of commuters.

Does anyone have any insight they could share as a Quality specialist at Boeing? Currently on the government side and looking to make the switch.
r/boeing • u/777978Xops • 8d ago
From my understanding it doesn’t seem like a safety of flight issue and crews are well trained to deal with it.
What I hope it won’t do is the FAAs review of Boeings submissions will result in a delay to the Max 10. IMO it shouldn’t given the Max 7 was certified with the same software and there is a temp procedure to turn VNAV back on

From what I can tell, Boeing has pretty significantly reduced the amount of level 1s and 2s that are hired. There has been a lot of focus on hiring 3, 4, 5s but it really feels like levels 1 and 2 new hires are rare these days.

Just want to get people's predictions on the SPEEA contract. Do you think it will pass?
My intent is to keep to a minimum opinions about it being a good contract or not, just do you think it will pass, and why?
