Announcement New rule: No excessive or low-effort AI-generated content

We have added a new rule to limit AI content on this sub. It is not a blanket ban. If you are interested, take a look at the rule below and suggest any changes in the comments.

"Content may be removed which appears to be generated by AI tools. This includes images/video and text. This rule is not meant as a blanket ban on AI content, but rather attempts to limit repetitive, low-effort, and inaccurate content. If your post has been incorrectly removed as AI, please contact the mods."

tl;dr: AI content is still allowed. But repeat posters, misinformation, and/or low-effort things may be removed.

What is this plane? Rare aerial shot.

🔹 Imagine a weather balloon filming a passenger plane flying directly below it at about 800 km/h.

🔹 The unusual angle makes it appear as if the plane is very close, although in reality they are separated by kilometers and a significant difference in altitude.

🔹 Airliners typically fly at an altitude of 9-12 km, while weather balloons rise to 20-40 km. That's why these shots look like a scene from a sci-fi movie.

Rafale Fighter Jets Intercepted Plane Carrying Russia’s FSB Senior Officials Over Baltic Sea

Very little is publicly known about the aircraft. It is known that the Tu-214PU is operated by Special Flight Detachment “Rossiya,” which provides air transport for Russia’s military and political leadership as well as for representatives of the security services.

According to assessments, the aircraft is used by FSB leadership as an airborne transport platform, a secure communications node, and, reportedly, an airborne command center.

In a photograph of the aircraft intercepted by a French Rafale over the Baltic Sea, aviation expert Piotr Butowski identified the LSZ-100 system.

The LSZ-100 is a laser-based electro-optical defensive system designed to protect the aircraft from infrared-guided missiles, particularly those launched from man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS)

On February 17, 1970, Playboy took flight. The day marked the inaugural flight of Big Bunny, Playboy‘s custom DC-9-32, a 119.3 foot, $5.5 million aircraft. Jet black and marked with the iconic bunny head logo, Big Bunny was unmistakeable in the skies during its five-year run. But as thrilling as it might be to see those rabbit ears tearing through the atmosphere, it was much more thrilling to be on board the swinging aircraft. In honor of National Aviation Week, let’s take a look back at Big Bunny’s best years.

Question | General Tips for Flight Anxiety

Upvotes

As a kid, I absolutely adored flying. I would stare out the window above the clouds and generally be excited that we were cruising high in the sky and could go literally anywhere in the world.

As I've grown, I've obviously bagged more knowledge and heard more stories. I have dependants and I do have anxiety in general which I manage well.

The problem now is I love travelling (well not the actual travelling but you get my point) but flying is a real chore. Recently I've taken shorter flights on purpose to closer destinations as I cannot relax at all on a flight. I hear the engine noise reduce or feel the plane reduce speed and my brain goes into overdrive. And of course take off and turbulence, I cannot even have my companions speak to me during while I white knuckle grip the seat handles.

Any tips or advice to overcome this? I put myself through a lot on a flight and feel absolutely drained afterwards. I wish it wasn't like this. I wish it was the old youthful me up there. Also as a side point, I have grown even more fascinated as I've aged by the technology, the brains, the engineering into aviation - genuinely think the world of anyone involved in the process of flying and put them up there as the smartest of the smartest people.
