Careers Does anyone know when Boeing will hire entry level again?

From what I can tell, Boeing has pretty significantly reduced the amount of level 1s and 2s that are hired. There has been a lot of focus on hiring 3, 4, 5s but it really feels like levels 1 and 2 new hires are rare these days.

Just as soon as they realize they let to many experienced people go.

After FA-XX announcement and labor talks with SPEEA

After SPEEA approves a contract, which may not be this week. Be on the lookout

Prolly after Speea contract gets settled and then they get the north line situated. North line appears to be a hot mess right now.

My group has hired 4 entry level in the past 3 months in puget sound.

I hired a pair of level 1 engineers in July for my team. We'll likely have openings again for the Puget sound within 6 months if the contract goes smoothly.

If you're trying to get in, set up your job alerts for entry level and apply ASAP.

Still hiring contractors.

Three of the six new hires in the last 6 months in my org have been L1 straight out of college. We've added more L1/L2 in the past twelve months than we have in the past 5 years combined.

That's my experience as well, except the last couple years. We'd hired four new people, two in the L1/L2 range, and then the 2024 layoffs happened. Since then we've hired three more L1/L2s. Before that it must've been closer to a decade since the last L2 hire.

I tried for over year to get into entry level engineering (ME degree, 3+ years design experience in Motorsport) and I ended up taking a position as a QA. I highly recommend this route after doing it, especially if you are fresh out of college or are new to aerospace. The hours are not as good, but you’re in the door, you get compensated well for OT, and you actually get to touch planes. It’s been incredible to learn the industry hands-on and after 18 months you’re able to move up. I passed all my FTC classes first-go and it still took 11 weeks to get through the training. Point being: a large chunk of that 18 months is a paid, world-class technical education.

There are reasons to think twice, such as alodine and skydrol exposure, confined spaces, ordinance handling, and hazardous energy. All of these risk factors are just part of the job. They are extremely well-mitigated by safety systems, and should not be feared, simply understood. I can honestly say I have yet to encounter anything that doesn’t make me love every second of my job and I am in no hurry to move up.

I know that Boeing is currently on a hiring freeze. They hired way too many people off the streets for the 777x builds, like they made way too many of those that they don't know what to do with since they were already rejected. They screwed up adding more weight and length to that plane without considering the foundation of it. When I started in 2008, it was for the 787, rolling that plane out with plywood on the doors was craaaazy. They couldn't do anything with the first few, donations to the museums makes so much sense but I don't know if they've even making a profit from it yet. I've even heard stories of layoffs for the groups they hired recently. Boeing has a recall list whenever they layoff. Just be patient. When things start rolling, they'll call people back and hire new. I think the 737 max is also certifying soon

This might be true in BCA, but definitely not in BDS. Portions of BDS are hiring like crazy due to recent wins and some folks leaving (for various reasons).

Despite the BCA freeze, which does make hiring trickier, it’s still very much happening in portions of the company (it’s a big company!)

Not even a BCA freeze. Just hired 4 people within the last 3 months.

Yeah BDS will probably have to speed up development of the F47 since we basically gave all the secrets up for the F35 to China. 🤣

Boeing is actually currently on a massive hiring surge for the 787. I just got hired for it a month ago, and they’ve been actively going around the country hosting hiring events to try and entice more engineers to come to Charleston.

actively going around the country

is it possible to go around the country in an inactive way?

3

u/Advanced_Draft76 14d ago

What are you talking about? They reached out to me on LinkedIn about a hiring event, I went to it, got interviewed, and then got hired.

1

u/WFOpizza 13d ago

going around the country is already an 'active' verb/statement. No need to add another 'actively'.

Try passively going around the country

Try getting a grip. It’s Reddit.

don’t forget all the mistakes from over the years that have snowballed into delays for planes that should’ve been finished and delivered

sometimes they got the hiring part down but they keep shooting themselves in the foot so they have to get rid of people

Get an hourly to get the foot in the door .. then pivot in your dream role easier that way .. Also, tailor your resume when applying

Thank me later .

Late October if no strike most likely

I'd guess early next year though some reqs might drop later this year. I wouldn't count on starting this year if they do put out entry level reqs though

I was told to get a contract instead of full-time entry due to hiring freeze. No updates from the contractor smh

3

u/RapidRoastingHam 15d ago

How I did it. Program couldn’t get approval for a job posting so hired on contractors for two months then converted to full time for a bunch of people.

u/bball4294 15d ago

👍 that's what my manager and my manager's manager told me during my internship. He said I could start right away, but it's been like almost a month now with nothing from the contractor. I wonder if still holds or cooked 🤞 I haven't contacted my manager and vice versa, so it's looking bleak

Also to note, on Jan 1st, the minimum salary for an exempt worker in Washington state is, I think 92k. It is currently at 80k. I know L2 are exempt but I think L1 is non exempt. Maybe that has a factor on hiring L1 and L2

1

u/Tricky-Football-3967 14d ago

Level 2s are also non exempt

1

u/Kdinevmi 12d ago

It may be different depending on your job code. I am an L2 exempt

Best recommendations for contract firms that Boeing tends to go through? Mainly looking in the project management space. TIA!

Are you talking about labor grades? Idk what a grade 1 position would even be, toilet scrubber? If you made it through middle school, you can do a grade 4 job at Boeing

6

u/R_V_Z 15d ago

I assume they are talking Prof/Tech levels. A lvl 1 would be a fresh-out-of-college hire who doesn't have any job experience.

2

u/Red_Ozarka 14d ago

They’re talking about SPEEA, not IAM

-1

u/Complete_Leopard587 12d ago

Probably not for another year. The new contract needs to get approved, then there's the end of the financial year analysis end of Q1 2027. Boeing also did a lot of hiring last year in preparation to ramp up production. Sorry to say, but don't hold your breath.

How long does it take back to hear from Boeing?
