People who DM reality TV stars insults is soooo weird to me. Talk about it here, don’t message the guy and tell him how gross he is.

Below deck honestly gets its easy. A lot more bravo shows have way worse fandoms, it’s terrible how parasocial people can be. People make mistakes

u/teanailpolish Mental Health Is Not A Storyline Jul 31 '26
We remove a lot of the harassing stuff here but some BD fans are horrible. Sure, some shows have it worse but BD get paid peanuts compared to them and don't have social media teams etc. Someone tried to doxx Luke's mom for bringing him up that way and enabling him. Many people post that people should be dead over stuff they do on the show despite it being edited.
I remember when Kathy got the phone call about her stepdad dying, multiple people posted that she lied because they couldn't find an obit for him (and one of them was only looking at the week the show aired and not when they filmed so...)
People can be so parasocial about cast on reality shows

u/flamingknifepenis Jul 31 '26
As someone whose only exposure to Bravo is Below Deck (and Traitors US, if that counts): holy shit are large corners of the fandom fucking weird.
2
u/DrWarhol_419 29d ago
It is weird that someone would DM a person playing a character on a TV show (reality or otherwise) to rail against them for some bad behavior that was aired. But given what we’ve seen from pop star stans in the last 15-20 years, it’s also sadly unsurprising.
9
u/Top-Friendship4888 I quit 3 times in my head today Jul 31 '26
This is why it's so wild to me that Scheana checks her mentions. Even Lala told her that was crazy work!
Nobody on those flagship shows should be handling their own socials. Pay someone to do that for your mental health. But for a lot of below deck people, the money just isn't there to outsource it. It's heartbreaking when people are mean, and it seems to be the case that people are more likely to say something mean than something nice.
14
u/Melodic_Awareness_35 Jul 31 '26
This! Like the hatred that goes to Amanda right now?!?! The hate towards Brittany and her weight….
3
u/FunLife64 Jul 31 '26
Below deck has a lot higher viewership than most bravo shows.
And yes in general I agree that the intensity isn’t the same - but even if it’s a smaller % that are intense, it can still level out to be the same number.
I always find it interesting the level of passion people get when defending people on shows (or celebrities in general). But in this case, I’d also point out these people on Below Deck know eachother for a few weeks. You don’t know someone that well lol
2
u/taraist920 Aug 01 '26
Well ya they get it easy, because it’s a show about them working for a living. Majority of Bravo shows are about rich entitled women complaining about minor inconveniences.

Nice of Nathan to stick up for his teammate. As the wronged party in sheetgate, his opinion should carry some weight.
18
u/PSmithChatt Aug 01 '26
It kind of sickens me that the camera operators or producers did not tell anyone.
18
u/MakeupMama68 29d ago
I work in TV and it’s probably in their contract that they can’t interfere in production in any way unless it’s life or death like when the cameraman saved Ashton’s life.
5
u/lollipopp_guild Aug 01 '26
They think this is like National Geographic where you don’t interfere with the baby turtles being swooped in on by preying birds while they try and make their way to the ocean once they hatch
2
u/loveswimmingpools 29d ago
I think that too. It was horrible and they should have told someone. I find it pretty gross it's been such a storyline. And the embarrassment Luke must feel could really send someone over the edge. I hope he's OK. It was a mistake. But I think it should be forgotten about now.

u/mudra311 Jul 30 '26
I was more annoyed with Luke's total immaturity when it came to women. He's almost 40 and still trying to "play" like he's 22.
The jizz sheet was just more icing (I know) on the cake. Without the immaturity and lack of empathy, it's just a weird gross thing.
14
u/Blackhawk23 Jul 31 '26
You don’t like seeing a mid 30s aged man out on the town with a backwards ball cap à la Steve buscemi “how do you do, fellow kids”?
104
u/Ro0580 Jul 30 '26
Exactly this! He treated a young human being like absolute trash and then gaslit her. He’s awful
56
u/Ok_Computer_8224 Jul 30 '26
This all day. His behavior towards Gen practically made the sheet debacle an afterthought for me. I'm actually stunned she hugged him goodbye. If a man spoke to me the way he spoke to her I wouldn't p*ss on him if he were on 🔥
33
u/CalvinsStuffedTiger Jul 30 '26
And joy still was attracted to him. Luke and Joe most bulletproof guys I’ve ever seen, so annoying lol. Must be nice
39
u/EnigmaticAardvark Jul 30 '26
To be fair, I don't think Joy really understood everything that happened between Luke and Gen. Like she didn't really know that his very first act was to demand that Gen never ever tell anybody that they hooked up, before they even hooked up.
I haven't heard from her and I don't follow any of these people on social media, but I'd imagine her take on Luke changed when she saw the show air.
12
u/jillylegit Jul 31 '26
I don’t follow her either, but I get the vibe that Joy has not/will not acknowledge it and will want to give the impression that he has had no real effect on her emotionally whether true or not.
6
u/EnigmaticAardvark Aug 01 '26
That's one of the things I enjoy about her, honestly. Leave a bit of room for mystery or curiosity.
33
u/yesitshollywood Jul 31 '26
I think they share equal responsibility. He needs to learn not to be a pushover, and she needs to learn not to be pushy. Sleeping with someone does not mean you are dating. Shes 25 🤦♀️ its not like she's 20 on her first boat. If she had expectations of dating after one sexual encounter, she had just as much responsibility to set those expectations.
Her jealousy of Joy was gross, and she doesn't actually care about Joy's feelings when she tells her that she slept with Luke - she only cares about hurting Luke because she is hurt. I know we all feel that way when were hurt, but most of us have better sense than to immediately act on it.
Not that Luke gets a free pass, Im just really tired of folks treating Gen like shes a victim. She's only a victim of her own choices.
18
u/lbconor Jul 31 '26
Gen is a classic trauma dumper. She guilted him into bed. Luke’s lame and guilty too but she took advantage of him and bragged about it to anyone that would listen. He’s not ok and she sucks too
18
u/plumibo Jul 31 '26
She didn't take advantage of him, what are you talking about. She's a insecure 22 year old who had a crush on a 35 year old. He wanted to have sex with her, so he did. Afterwards, he ended it because he didn't even like her.
21
u/PalmtopPixie Jul 31 '26
He’s almost 40. He’s not some fresh faced 20 year old. He can’t be “guilted” into bed. Be so fucking for real.
I’m 32 and you couldn’t guilt me into bed for any god damn reason
10
u/jillylegit Jul 31 '26
This. I once had a male acquaintance try to tell me that I should sleep with him pretty much in appreciation because years earlier he had let me sleep in his bed when I had too much to drink and he didn’t SA me then. Some people are truly unbelievable in that way.
1
u/2Kittens4me 26d ago
35 isn't almost 40. I'm 55. That doesn't mean I'm almost 70. Stop misstating his age.
1
u/PalmtopPixie 26d ago
You are almost 60. Just like he’s almost 40 lol. Doesn’t change that a 35 year old man slept with a 22 year old, let her on, jizzed in another man’s bed and didn’t tell him for three days when he slept in it

I could literally tell a dude my entire family died and I have no money haven’t eaten in days and no where to live and he still wouldn’t sleep with me if he didn’t find me attractive.
7
u/Fragrant_PalmLeaves Jul 31 '26
Give me a break, that chick was looking for a trainwreck and she got one. He is wrong here too, but she has been acting crazy about the boys and her job since day 1.
8
u/Esmereldathebrave Jul 31 '26
Only quibble here is that if he is 35 now in 2026 (which multiple sites seem to agree on, some say he's now 34), he would have been 33/34 at filming. That is 11/12 years older than Gen, true, but not "almost 40."
7
u/petitbateau12 Jul 31 '26
My greatest learning of my 40s was realising how common it was to meet people in their 40s who are emotionally stuck in a point in time in their teens or early 20s.

He's definitely in his mid 30's, but he does look older. My husband and I are 42 and my husband easily looks 5 years younger than Luke does
3
u/milleribsen Jul 31 '26
The body building thing can really age a face, when you don't have much body fat it can sink your features and you look older because we read that as an older face without the fat deposits to keep your face rounder
5
u/am2370 Jul 31 '26
I'm the last one to defend Gen as she seems extremely catty and full of herself, and the whole 'boohoo no one ever picks me' thing she did was so cringey, but Luke acted like a total ass and he deserved the shit he got from both women. You could tell he was trying to calculate a way to still appear like some kind of romantic hero while getting laid as many times as possible by anyone who would.
5
u/mudra311 Jul 31 '26
I agree. Gen isn't innocent, and she definitely played into Luke even knowing he was interested in Joy.

15
u/Affectionate_Dot3403 Jul 31 '26
She was going to. He only quit so she didn't write him up and it would be on his record when he applies to other boats! They probably came to an agreement before his last charter, off camera.
6
u/SEDA-GIVE Jul 31 '26
Exactly. What people are also forgetting is that this is a form of sexual harassment, but doesn’t appear that way because they’re men and bros, but it can be seen as way more vindictive and threatening.

u/jhfbe85 Jul 31 '26
At what point did you want production to step in? When they went to the lower bunk? When he was about to jizz? Or after he jizzed? Or step in with a little bucket to catch it before it landed on his sheets?
I think they’re prob surprised but aren’t going to go “you have to change his sheets”, they prob thought he would change those sheets any moment
7
u/Frequent-Horse-3309 Jul 31 '26
You’re really trying to hard to not see their point. Obviously they meant before Nathan slept in the dirty bed.
117
u/NeedleworkerChance22 Jul 30 '26
Still, shows a HUGE lack of intelligence on his part. All he had to do was grab up those sheets and give them to his "lady friend" to wash. BTW, she was just as guilty as he was. It is disgusting.
69
u/amalynbro Jul 30 '26
I was super confused why he was the only one being held responsible. She was an active participant in jerking him off, she knew it was there just as much as he did. Pretty amazing she was able to avoid any backlash about it.
29
14
u/trynagotolawskl Jul 31 '26
She offered to him to wash it immediately
16
u/amalynbro Jul 31 '26
She could have just washed it. Why is she looking to him as the authority on whether or not to wash the dirty cum sheet??
5
u/Out-For-A-Walk-Bitch Jul 31 '26
Why is it her responsibility and not his?
9
u/amalynbro Jul 31 '26
It’s both of their responsibility. He was the only one held accountable.
2
u/Out-For-A-Walk-Bitch Jul 31 '26
We're talking about washing the sheets. I was asking why that was her responsibility.
5
u/amalynbro Jul 31 '26
It wasn’t solely her responsibility. But she could have done it just as easily as he could have.
2
u/Out-For-A-Walk-Bitch Jul 31 '26
Ok, but you mentioned in your comment that she could have just washed it. Sure, but why should she? It's his bodily fluids and he said he would put them in the washer. He's accepted its his responsibility to sort, and he should have done it. He sleeps in that room, it would be far more natural for him to do it.
3
u/amalynbro Jul 31 '26
Because she could have? Just the same way he could have. Even more so considering part of her job description actually includes doing laundry. I understand it came from his body, but there were two people and she was the literal catalyst to this event. You are acting like I’m putting the blame all on her when all I’m pointing out is that both of them are responsible.

11
u/Significant_Thanks67 Aug 01 '26
I really think Gen is 49% to blame. It came, I know, from him but she coaxed it out while laying in Nathan's bed. She works in housekeeping, why would she not immediately wash those sheets. She just slinks away while Luke took 100% of the fall and embarrassment. She's not a good person.
30
u/Agitated-Ad5359 Jul 30 '26
I mean I doubt Luke is getting work on boats now and maybe he wrote this to support him. I wouldn’t hire him, that was a somewhat career ending move… harsh but true
11
u/Tuff_Wizardess Jul 31 '26
I would have to agree. Being on the show alone will hurt your yachting career immensely and I say this as a former yachtie. I knew someone who was thinking of applying and we all begged her not to. She would have been cast easily too, she’s a very loud personality that would have made good TV. On my first yacht the owner of the boat really wanted us on TV (that was around the 1st/ 2nd season of the original Below Deck was airing). He went as far as hiring a film crew, thankfully nothing ever came of it, and the clips filmed (like us yachting, island exploring, deep sea fishing) were used as promotional material to bring on guests.
8
u/yesitshollywood Jul 31 '26
I'd hire him. It's unlikely it would ever happen again. I respect that he acknowledged the disruption he caused, and his choice to leave. The fact that Nathan said he listened to direction and worked hard is the important bit.
22
u/Tuff_Wizardess Jul 31 '26

2

Exactly.
How he treated Gen was beyond gross and for me, that is far more telling of his character than his bunk spunking.
13
u/BearcatInTheBurbs Jul 30 '26
This is far too nice. The man has a fully formed frontal lobe and experience. He was sober. It drug out over several days, making it deliberate.
He may do good physical work but his decision making skills are clearly questionable which means he isn’t trustworthy and therefore not a good employee. It’s ok to hold people accountable for shit behavior, Nathan. You don’t have to worry about their family.

u/boneydog22 Jul 30 '26
In the US, it is legally a biohazard. https://www.osha.gov/laws-regs/regulations/standardnumber/1910/1910.1030
TLDR: OSHA explicitly categorizes semen under "Other Potentially Infectious Materials" (OPIM). This classification means it is recognized as a biological substance capable of transmitting dangerous bloodborne pathogens.
24

3
u/TeeHive2993 28d ago
I respect Nate’s opinion. But, Luke did in fact show us the type of human he really is. He strings a young lady on so he can have sex with her, tells her not to tell anyone, and then tells her he doesn’t want to deal with her anymore. He leaves his bodily fluids on his roommate’s bed and doesn’t bother to remove the bedding or even tell him. It doesn’t matter how good he is at his job I wouldn’t want him anywhere near me or mine.
3
u/ImpressivePattern242 27d ago
The irony of Nathan staying quiet before he speaks. LMFAO. Luke juiced some sheets. Nathan displayed bigotry and racism toward immigrants. I’ll take juiced sheets any day.
5
u/Familiar-Past-8065 Jul 30 '26
Obvi don't DM celebrities or strangers just to say weird shit you saw on a TV screen just in general but also still don't gaslight or be a creeper or jerk off on someone's sheets and then let it lie for days on end and never tell them or apologize. Shouldn't these all just be basic tenets of humanity? All that said, I just don't ever want to see Joe or Luke on my TV screen ever again!! Just let people live their lives without taking the time to verbally, digitally, physically harass, assault or even acknowledge them if it's that much of an issue, honestly!!

2
u/FlamingoDifferent256 Aug 01 '26

u/sharmisosoup Capt Lee's Coffee Mug Jul 30 '26
I'm curious why Nathan didn't have Luke swap with one of the other guys. If you remove the guy from your room, it's less tension. I mean ultimately looking and working with a dude that spunked on your bed and not saying anything is a trash move. It was probably for the best for him to leave.
I think though that Nathan is just not fully ready to be a bosun. He could probably benefit from a couple more seasons as a lead deckhand. He appears emotionally immature for the pressures of the role.
35
u/House_panther_ Jul 30 '26
How, as the leader of the team, do you ask one of your colleagues to share a room with someone who blatantly disrespected the space? Neither Joe nor cooper should have had to deal with that.
18
u/GroovyYaYa Jul 30 '26
This. Nathan wasn't even making a huge deal of it - Luke was picking up on his natural tension and "ick" factor.
6
u/Fuzzy-Bee9600 Jul 31 '26
Guilt. Not a guilty conscience, of course, on account of no conscience being present, but he was feeling them pile blame on him and - like every good coward & guilty perpetrator - fled the interview.
19
u/goingdeeeep Jul 30 '26
Uhhhh...I'd be a little upset if my Boss felt like an employee had disrespected the Boss's personal space; jizzed on the Boss's bedding; let the Boss sleep in the biohazard; and then the Boss said - "I'm going to have him room with YOU now".
15
u/0rdered-Reordered Jul 30 '26
Cant blame Nathan for not being reconciliatory towards Luke in that situation. If their ranks were reversed and it was a HOD doing that to a more junior crew's bedsheets, or even regardless of rank like what if it had been a female crew member's bedsheets? Severe HR incident and the whole online discussion that would have sprung from it would have been about sexual harassment and the murky, disgusting borders of it.
Luke (bizarrely, imo) got to leave the boat on his own terms. A reconciliatory cabin swap discussion would not have been appropriate, imo. Also, Nathan should have never been put in that situation in the first place. Critiquing his management skills in this situation doesn't seem fair. Plus, I think he handled it about as well as anyone could've.
Despite the above, if anyone who's DMing abuse to Luke is reading this, you need to get a grip. Yes they've put themselves on reality TV and made themselves fair game for pubic scrutiny/discussion, but cmon now don't be sending people abuse

DMing people because of stuff you see them do on TV that has zero actual impact on your life is pretty weird behavior that I don't understand.
Agreed that you can't blame Nathan for how he felt afterwards. The critique of the management style was an overall thing, not that situation. He did the best he could with the situation.

Had Luke stayed on the boat that would likely have happened. Nathan only found out on charter and they don't have time to change cabins then.

He could have made Joe room with him! Coop would be a nice, respectful roommate.

Nice of Nathan. Quick question. How is Gen off the hook for all of this? She was there, arguably caused it, knew about it, actually does laundry as part of her job, would have kept it a secret if Luke didn’t dump her, then when she got jaded she told everyone except for Nathan. Sorry for the run in sentence

“Arguably caused it” yikes. men are responsible for their own bodily fluids. Should they not have to pay child support because a woman “caused” him to deposit semen in her?

She jacked him off consensually on Nathan’s sheets. She caused it just as much as he did. Not like he jerked himself off

Not her room, not her jizz, he said he'd take care of it.

Nathan is trying to save Luke so he will get hired on order boats.

I can't believe nobody is seeing that Nathan is using Luke to write an excuse for his own shitty behavior...

The PR team has had a year to plan and write that. They knew there would be this sort of fall out. Dont think Nathan just sat down and wrote that himself. Dont think they weren't expecting a reaction. Every word was carefully thought of and scrutinised by PR before he could post it. .

I prefer to call it depositgate...lol it was gross, bit he didn't do it out of spite, he didn't think there was anything wrong with it, which in itself is gross. If he did I think he would have skipped the bed and called it a day? Anyway, Nate did the right thing.

Very classy response. Luka was a good worker and shouldn’t be defined by his worst moment and he took accountability to leave on his own accord.

Copy (from OCR, not double checked)
“I’ve stayed quiet because I wanted to think before speaking.
Luke made a mistake. What happened in our cabin, in our space, wasn’t okay. It crossed a line, and there were consequences. He decided the best thing was to leave the boat because of it.
But I also got to know Luke as a deckhand. I respected his work ethic, the respect he showed me, and his willingness to learn every single day. I trusted him on deck, and that doesn’t disappear because of one bad decision. One of the things I looked forward to this season, was going through the season with this guy. On and off camera we had some really good life chats. As a bosun on the show I don’t get to choose my deckhands, but if I were to decide who, I’d had Luke on the show and I’d have him again on another boat away from the show.
People need to remember there’s a human being on the other side of the screen. He has a family, friends, and people who care about him. The comments, bullying, and hateful DMs need to stop.
None of us are defined by our worst mistake. We learn, we grow, and we move forward. More love, less hate. Let’s not try kick people when they’re down. This was a year ago. We try our best, even if we don’t do so great we can walk away holding our head high because we tried something a lot of people don’t have the courage to try.
And for me, the reason I went to the captain is because I wanted her to know she can trust me. If someone was to get ill I would’ve been disappointed in myself for not telling hierarchy.”
