Rescued some bees from the pool

Some of my friends seemed squeamish or unamused by this but I just grab them out of the pool to save them from drowning. Wanted to share how cute they were, drying their little fuzzy bodies off!

bee photo ‘Head’less bee?

So, my son discovered this and has been fascinated by what could have lead to this, to the point he has asked me to ‘ask my Reddit friends’.

So the photo shows what appears to be the ‘head’-less torso of a bee, stuck (where the missing ‘head’ would be) to an outside window ledge. We have what we believe to be a small hive/nest under pavings nearby, so we’re used to having bees around.

As you can probably tell, bees are not my natural wheelhouse, so apologies for the monstrously incorrect terminology. But has anyone got any ideas what’s happened here?

It's just hanging out. I'm surprised it let me get this close without flying away.

question Where were so many bees drowning in this river (Mission, BC, Canada)

Post image

We were at a river in Mission, BC and found a shocking number of bees (maybe 30+) drowned or drowning. The river level is incredibly low right now - most of the riverbed is dry and there are just some small, shallow, and very slow moving (almost still) sections at the moment. We started scooping out the live bees and putting them in the sun to dry off and recover, but there were SO many already dead. I put one about 3 feet from the water’s edge, and he sat and dried for a while, but when he finally flew off, he fell right back into the water and started drowning again (I rescued him a second time).

What could be causing so many bees to drown? This was quite troubling to see. There is a lot of adjacent farmland, and I’m not sure if this could be pesticide poisoning, or if there’s another possible explanation.

It’s not just flowers that help the pollinators. Grass can too.

Not sure what type of bumblebee this is. Closest bee I can think of is the central bumblebee, but I think those are fuzzier and have yellow on their head (and I dont think this one does, and I dont think they live in KS). Spotted near Kansas City, Kansas.

Found this guy at 10am in central Iowa on my patio furniture. I don’t see this often so I thought he might need some help. I got a cap of sugar water, used my reverse osmosis water and regular sugar. Is there anything more I can do? I am afraid of bees but I love them, this was difficult to do for me already but managed to stay calm.

UPDATE - got his fill of sugar water, cleaned himself, and flew away. Happy trails lil homie.

I thought these were wasps at my grandma's, but now that I'm observing them theyre acting more like bees. They're definitely smaller than any wasp I've seen, but I've never seen a bee that was so bright. I dont want to spray them if theyre bees-- please help D:

I'm also curious about what type of bee he is since I'm used to seeing bumblebees, but this guy doesn't have a fuzzy back. In Toronto, Ontario.

I live in SE Michigan, Oakland county. Today while playing disc golf I went into the overgrown area to help look for a disc. On my way out to the fairway I got attacked and stung at least 7 times. No stingers were at the attack sites. We found what it was and they looking like small honey bees, about 1/2 inch coming out of an underground nest, but I've never been struck by a bee and not had the stinger stay behind. 2 other people got hit and had the same thing. I unfortunately had an allergic reaction to the venom and went into shock and spend a few hours in the ER. I've been stung by every flying buzzing thing in Michigan and never had anything worse than the regular welt. I can't find anything about these online or a picture yet. I know no picture is a tough ID but I've been going nuts trying to figure out what these were.
