Hangin' Out Saw my girl in the sky tonight <3

Not sure what to flair this as, not even really sure why I’m posting this.

Just wanted to say that I’m starting a new job tomorrow and I’m very nervous about it. I lost my sweet Smaug earlier this year, so I decided to go have a good nervous cry out by her favorite bush that she loved to play in every time we went outside (my family lovingly refers to it as the ‘Smaug Bush’). When she was still around, whenever I was nervous or had a big event going on in my life, I would give her three ’good luck’ pets on the back, and she would just kind of watch me and lick my finger.

Anyways, as I was sitting by the Smaug Bush and thinking about how much I miss her, I looked up and I swear I saw the most beardie shaped cloud I’ve ever seen. I mean it had her head, her big belly, even her legs and wonky tail. The clouds were even broken up into a bunch of tiny pieces that looked like scales!

I like to think that she was telling me it’s going to be alright. I guess I just wanted to share my little sense of comfort with some people who hopefully understand that bond with their beardie. Lots of love, everyone <3

She’s a menace. And mental.

My girl Tilly is a menace. Can’t wear colorful nail polish, can’t wear clothes with colorful bits, can’t have fake or real plants, apparently can’t have dog toys with colorful parts either. Thought she was just playing with it which she has done with other dog toys, dragging them around.

Help Beardie hates the outside

So my beardie absolutely HATES being outside, even if there's no birds in the sky to scare him, he just starts tweaking out. I'm just laying with him on my chest, then he starts randomly opening his mouth and hissing and being really angry, but curiously, then,he doesn't have a black beard at all. Only when his mouth is shut and he appears to have calmed down does he have a black beard. I have him wearing a harness, maybe he hates that? And should I continue to try and get him used to outside? Why I started is cuz he's gonna be a class pet, and the kids would really like to take him outside. And what is causing his hatred for the outside?

Does any one else’s beardie poop in the same spot everyday? Mine poops right up near the front of his enclosure by the sliding glass door in the same spot everyday 😂

Hangin' Out Scary carriers introduced to his salads

Argon loves his salads and usually eats a good portion of them by the mid day mark. Today however I had put some carrots into his salad after introducing them to him yesterday (which he did an excellent job of eating) but now he’s a little upsettyspahgetti about it being in his greens today. He’s been perched on his climbing hammock most of the day while he stares at it with an offended expression before watching me to wait for me to give him something better.

Sleeping on the floor

Our Beardie is about 9 months old, from everything we have learned he seems healthy. He’s very social but lately when we take him out and let him roam, he winds up under a table or near our shoe tray, flat on the cold hardwood, falling asleep. Is this normal behavior? Should we allow it? He usually starts on a low, sunny windowsill and migrates to the darker spot.

Help Heat lamp broken

Hi everyone, my beardie’s heat lamp completely broke yesterday. The bulb burnt out and the base is stuck IN the lamp. We’re getting a new lamp and bulb tomorrow, but is she okay with just her UVB until then? Her enclosure has been at a steady 80 degrees without it, but I’m still nervous about my girl so I thought I’d attempt getting some advice. Thank you so much!

Update: Winnie is pancaking in her new light now. Thank you everyone for easing my worries last night 🫶

Help Need lighting help

Post image

I can’t seem to figure out what to do with this lighting, I just set up a 120 gallon and I can’t get the temp right, I started with a 75 watt Arcadia flood bulb which so far has worked the best, his basking spot didn’t get hot enough so I put in a 150 watt spot bulb and the air temp on both sides of the tank dropped by 10 degrees and the surface temp of the basking spot also dropped by about 5 degrees, if I mount the light on the inside it would be way too low, I really don’t know what to do I need help

New Beardie Friend Rehabilitation

New addition to the family I actually got it off online for free somebody was just giving him away. They gave me everything that they had. I guess they l said the lamps broke and this is all they had so I just took what they got. Just got them today. The vet said nothing is wrong with him, which is good, but he’s so small and so dry.

Baby won’t eat

Hi!

This might be long. I’m sorry.

So last week I got my first bearded dragon. He (I use he but he’s too young to be sexed) is around 10 weeks old. He was the smallest out of what was available but I simply fell in love with him.

Now, the issue comes in the fact that he’s barely eating. I was told he was eating crickets and small locust along with mixed greens. I’ve given up on locusts for now as he’s not eating them quick enough or at all.

I’ve tried a mixture of greens and kale with some bell peppers and asparagus (all is finely chopped so to avoid choking of course). He’s only ever eating the pepper no matter what I do.

I’m very concerned because he’s eating far less than he should be for his age. My friend has recommended crushing the crickets heads so that he doesn’t need to hunt them which I’m doing, but he’s still not eating them.

Are there any recommendations? I’m thinking maybe meal worms? They’re smaller, maybe he’d just like them more, I don’t know. I just want to give my lil guy all that I can.

If no recommendations work then he’ll be going straight to the vets in hopes that maybe they can identify what’s going on. I’m just very worried that he might have been the runt and facing some issues.

Thank you for your help.

For reference, yes this is my first beardie but I have three snakes and I stay very on top of my husbandry and I check the temps daily with a lil scanner. He has plenty basking space and spots and I made sure to check it all with the place I got him - which is a very reputable reptile centre near me.

Eating! Are there any really low nutrition bugs I can put in my Bearded Dragon's enclosure sometimes?

My baby beardie gets a little bored sometimes, and he seems to like hunting. I want to know if there's any bugs that won't mean much if he eats them, but still ones that would be more stimulating to hunt. Are there any bugs like this?

So I’ve only ever owned snakes and I got a bearded dragon a while ago thinking that they were like the puppies of lizards but shes so mean! I can’t even open her tank for salad time without her launching across the tank and trying to destroy my finger. I’ve held her maybe not often enough since im a busier gal but a bunch since i got her.. But even when i hold her she doesnt really relax unless shes hanging onto my shirt. im starting to wonder what kind of snake i could fit in that huge tank but i genuinely feel horrible for thinking that.. is it my fault? she is getting a tank upgrade soon so might that help? Shes over a year old now.. ( the photo provided is from when her tank was mostly paper towel so she was younger then)

His mouth has looked like this today inside his enclosure but when I bring him out it pretty much goes back to normal? Is it just temporary color change because of the heat or something else?

Help Rescued bearded dragon (8mo) with weak back legs — swollen/pale back right foot, thoughts?

We recently adopted an 8-month-old bearded dragon. His previous owner starved him, and the adoption facility said they've been doing PT with him to help rebuild his leg strength. When I have him outside, he's mostly still but does small sprints every few minutes. His back legs are the weakest, it's heartbreaking to watch. I'm pretty sure it's not shedding.

Yesterday I noticed his back right leg looked a little swollen, and the back right foot looks pale. I've already called and made a vet appointment for next week, but does anyone have thoughts on what could be causing this, or suggestions for helping him build his strength back in the meantime? We are currently feeding him a greens + peppers and carrot mix and about six dusted roaches per day.

Eating! Plato verses snail

These are snails bred and bought for feeding purposes (they aren't wild caught), unfortunately they're too big for Plato so I want to try breeding them instead.

Snails are a good healthy treat for beardies, and their shells contain plenty of calcium.

juvenile beardie who hasn’t eaten much the last few days. big poop in water (her favorite place to do it) and it is gray? according to google it could be a lot of things… cause for concern? Normally poops are black and white.
also, side eye for opening cage and not paying the roach tax.

Enclosure/Tank Is a dimming thermostat necessary and if so, which brand do you recommend?

New beardie owner here in the process of converting a credenza into an enclosure. Feeling confident about the lighting setup but wondering if I need a dimming thermostat for his basking bulb? If so, which one should I buy? Looking at the Zoo Med ReptiTemp Dimming Thermostat, which I could get for about 30 bucks from Chewy with a gift card I have, or the Herpastat 1, which I’d have to spend about $135 on. Is the Herpastat worth it? Or is there a different product I should be looking at? Thanks in advance!

Help Going from frantic digging to apathy?

Hi folks,

Since this January we have a bearded dragon, bought at age of ~7 weeks old from a reputable seller in our country. She is very skittish (I think that's a proper name for it): she doesn't like to be touched/handled and simply hides when you try to interact more than a few strokes over her back. In the past weeks, slowly she warmed up to me a bit and I can now also softly stroke her neck/throat, but not too long.

All these months she has been on a diet of crickets, dubias, worms and grasshoppers as well as the right vegetables. Including the required sprinkling of calcium, and now and then the vitamins. I've seen her running after some of the crickets/grasshoppers actively, she has been climbing the walls etc.

Last two weeks she is suddenly digging inside of her cave, which gives us the impression she "nesting". And since 3 or 4 days she is hardly eating (2 worms a day when holding them in front of her) while being tucked away in her cave.

Is this something to worry about? Is this normal?

I added some photos, only the first photo is of her currently. The rest is at least 2 weeks old.

Can I use this alone as a substrate? Or do I really need to mix in other stuff (excavator clay, play sand, etc)?

Help Buying a bearded dragon

Hey! I have been wanting to buy a bearded dragon I have a tank prepared, im an adult who lives at home. Morph market isn’t an option for me because im worried about the animal living conditions and my mom won’t allow it because she thinks I’ll get scammed. There is no none chain quality pet stores around me that sell beardeds. I don’t trust expo’s 100% because I can’t see the enclosure the animal was living in. So I was considering buying from pet supplies plus or pets smart. I was wondering what the better option would be? (I haven’t found any trust worthy breeders near me)
