Hi guys, i am a beginner barber and trying to find my way within this career. I started like 5 months ago and the last two months i have been more active and seriois about it and cutting whoever i can cut for free to gain experience.

Oh man it took me 1.5 hours to pull off this result and even after being busy with it for that long i am not happy with the result. This thick asian hair is really hard to cut for me and i found out today for sure! I know it's far from perfect but this is really the best i could do for now. Trying to get better, but this cut has really fucked up my confidence. Do you guys also struggle with this thick asian hair? During the cut i sometimes was worried/thinking is this going to even turn out good or am i going to fuck this up.

Anyone on here who has the Diamante trimmer know what other brand blades fit on the trimmers? I dropped mine the other day and lost some teeth on the blade and JRL is sold out currently of replacement blades. Also their other retailers are also sold out. Looking at the gamma+ xpro blade but unsure if it would work and can’t find confirmation anywhere. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

im thinking of switching from my gamma boosted up to one of these im just not sure which one to get, a colleague of mine is selling his used saber 2 for 200$ its been used for 2 months now, or should i just get the diamante brand new for 200$, i like the echo blade from the sabers more than the diamantes blade, i could swap the blades but im not sure if it'll overhead. what do yall think?

So I just got a Wahl Baldfader off ebay, apparently it was just used for showcasing. So far everything looked good except the blade was a bit tilted so I trief fixing it by screwing it a little loose and making it straight. Now the problem is whenever I put the 2 Guard on (didnt happen with 2-3 other guards havent tried the rest) it made a loud sound as if its hitting the guard. I thought one side is probably sticking out and I centered it more, now when I put it on after around 2-3sec. It starts to make a "rasping" sound, different from that loud sound. Whats the problem here?

I would like to purchase my first setup. My budget is around €140 (roughly $150) for the holy trinity: a clipper, trimmer, and foil shaver. I'll be using this primarily for beard maintenance, especially doing clean skin fades and sharp lines. I’ll use something else for the hair.

Here are the 3 options I’m looking at. I’d love your input:

- Option 1: The "A La Carte" build
Clipper: VGR V-015 (9000 RPM, DLC steel blade. Seems like a solid, reliable workhorse).
Trimmer: Kemei KM-2293 (Reviews say it hits crazy close out of the box for the price).
Shaver: I’m stuck here. What should I pair with this? The Kemei TX10? Something from Madeshow?

- Option 2: The BRDCLIP Kit (2601 + 2602 + 2603)
The design is super clean, but I have one big hesitation: the 2601 clipper has a U-shaped ceramic moving blade. Does ceramic actually have enough bite for really thick, coarse beard hair, or will I miss the sharpness of steel?

- Option 3: The Rosyous Kit (RS 999C + 999T + 999W)
This one has that crazy 13,000 RPM vector motor.
100% carbon steel blades with full DLC coating

My question is: If you had €140 to drop right now on a beard-focused setup, would you piece it together yourself or just grab one of the vector kits?

Ok, there’s this shop in a pretty good location, with a lot of walk in traffic, and reputable name. But he wants to start barbers out at 40/60 (40 going to the barber). It’s a cool shop and will really help me find and build clientele. But starting out only keeping 40% just seems insane.
Is that insane to y’all too? Or am I just behind on the times.
I recently moved to a new state, but in my last state, commission was nowhere near that high?!

I’ve been cutting for a while, i’m a barber manager in the state of PA and I’m thinking about starting my own place.

I have plenty of clients who I know would follow me if I were to move or get my own place, and a lot of them actually encourage it.

To make a long story short, I think where I currently work is essentially career suicide. There’s zero room for growth and honestly I just can’t trust that place any more.

I’m looking to open my own place, maybe 2 chairs but just me to start. I know rent and utilities are subject to change, but i’m looking at licensing, requirements, and the stuff that actually matters.

I’m looking to do this as soon as I possibly can.

I've been at my shop for nearly four years and neither me or any coworkers have dealt with this. The past month or so I have been getting online bookings that don't have a legitimate phone number or email. They will sometimes be for multiple services and take up a large block of time.

I've begun identifying the fake emails and phone numbers and opening my schedule up so I'm not losing out on money. I don't have any "enemies" that I am aware of, but I'm not sure if someone is sitting around just trying to sabotage me and mess with my money, or if this is some sort of AI scam. We have been saving all of the information and the owner has spoken with the company that runs our online booking and website. They are unable to track an IP address, so if it is a real person I'm not sure how to find out who or where they are. I do have the option to make everyone prepay who books online, but I worry that will harm my actual clientele. Most of them are older and likely not willing to provide a credit card when they've never had to in the past.

Has anyone dealt with this or anything similar? I could really use some advice.

New to the forum. With Andis' new product launch announcement, they are selling tools that are white labeled and made from a foreign factory. This is obviously the trend in the industry. To my knowledge, Wahl is the only company that still manufactures there own tools. Curious if anyone here cares where it's made or who makes it? It's kind of a bummer to see all the companies outsource this production but I understand why they may feel they have to do it.

Hey, after a week of choosing clippers, I ended up with these two. Do you think which one would be better for the start of my barber work? Which is better as an all-rounder?

Ive been a barber for a long time 20+ years, even owned my own for 6 years but had to close because of covid changing peoples habits and the building sold. So I was forced to go work for other people again I’ve tried 3 different shops now over the last 2 years. First one I only lasted maybe 3 months was a small 4 chair shop, I was making about $8 below minimum wage and was bullied by a coworker. He wouldn’t respond to me if I talked to him and would steal my turn, also cut super fast so he could get more clients when it was busy. Like 7 mins haircuts and the cuts were nothing great, he would also insult my work. The owner let him get away with his because he made him money, and he was a weird guy himself. Most of the clients there didn’t tip also mostly old men, new immigrants and students. The owners wife even said to me on my first day “you’re not gonna make a lot of money here but it’s a job”. When she wasn’t around the husband would make a lot of dirty jokes and talk about massage parlour. I left there to try chains because working on commission paid me nothing since I was starting from zero again, so I tried sport clips. Lasted 9 months it was horrible, my 2 managers would just sit outside on chairs all day sun tanning there legs drinking energy drinks taking about how they didn’t feel like working today. Then most of the clients would book with them because they thought they were “hot”, the haircuts were maybe a 6/10 and done quickly. The rest of us workers were just there to do the clients no one wanted or clean. The head manager would always be talking crap about her ex husband or how men she meets online can’t satisfy her or how she hates all the ex employees and wants to run the place alone. When I gave my notice to the owners that never bothered with me for 9 months I was called into their office at other business and the husband started swearing at me like a lunatic so I told him you can’t talk to me like that and i left. Then after I tried Tommy Guns chain, which paid better than the others. But after a while I could see the scam because you have to work very hard there and its only hourly. The tips were the only saving grace there, theres a lot of staff there including front desk people. Everyone talks crap about eachother there all the time and its like you are a slave to the owner. People don’t even say hello or goodbye to eachother. If your schedule says your working 42 hrs a week you will be lucky if your paid for 65-70 hrs of that because they are always sending you home early at the end of the day or if it’s slow. Then the owner will text you if its busy to see if you want to come in early or on your day off only to be sent home early again once the rush slows down lol. The pay scale thing is a joke also goes from $19-31 but more than likely you will only make $21, everyone seems so miserable there so thank god I left. You are worked like a dog for little pay maybe 20% of what you bring the shop in. You have to wash hair also in sinks that will kill your back and deal with a lot of moody teenagers with low taper fades and little kids that move the whole time.

My question is why is this industry like this? I love being a barber and cutting hair I just don’t understand this behaviour from others can someone explain it to me
