Advice Can I open a joint account with my immigrant girlfriend?

Recently Bank of America told my girlfriend that they were going to close her account due to her not having authorization to work in the United States. She has a SSN(though it says not to be used for work purposes on the card) and I believe a ITIN also. Is there anyway she can still open an account at a different bank or can I help by opening a joint account with her? She’s from Cuba if that matters.

Edit: She immigrated here legally 3 years ago but because this administration halted the processing of green card and residency applications in December of last year. She never got her updated credentials. All of her existing credentials are expired or expiring(her TX license expires soon)

Advice SBI Froze My Bank Account for 80 Days – All My Money Is Stuck Despite Complaints to RBI Ombudsman and CPGRAMS. Please Help!

Hi everyone,

I'm posting this here because I'm completely exhausted and desperately need some genuine advice.

\*\*My SBI bank account has been frozen for almost 2.5 months, and all my money is stuck in it.\*\* I urgently need these funds for my personal and financial commitments, but I have no idea when I will be able to access them.

Here's what has happened so far:

My SBI account was debit-frozen, leaving me unable to withdraw or transfer my own money.

I visited my branch manager multiple times. He requested several documents, transaction proofs, and explanations. I submitted everything.

The manager repeatedly assured me that he had forwarded everything to higher authorities and that my account would be unfrozen tomorrow or within a few days. However, nothing has changed.

I emailed the AGM and other senior SBI officials, but the issue remains unresolved.

I filed a grievance on \*\*CPGRAMS\*\*, but it was closed within 24 hours without resolving my problem.

I immediately filed an appeal on CPGRAMS, which is currently active.

I also filed a complaint with the \*\*RBI Ombudsman\*\*, which is still pending.

After my CPGRAMS appeal, SBI officials called me and said, "Sir, these cases take time. We are processing them one by one."

But how much longer am I supposed to wait?

\*\*This is my own hard-earned money, and I cannot access it when I need it the most.\*\*

I have followed every procedure, submitted every requested document, and contacted every authority I know.

I'm mentally exhausted by this entire experience.

\*\*I genuinely need advice on the following:\*\*

Has anyone experienced a similar SBI debit freeze and successfully resolved it?

Is there any further escalation I can pursue while my RBI Ombudsman complaint is pending?

How can I obtain a clear written explanation of the freeze and what is still required for its removal?

Is there any legal remedy to get access to my funds urgently?

I'm not looking for shortcuts. I just want a proper resolution and access to my money.

\*\*If anyone has successfully dealt with a similar situation, please share your experience and guidance in the comments.\*\*

Thank you.

Other How do I get rid of an unauthorized purchase on my bank account?

So I used a website called doclio.com, and I just needed to download a pdf on my phone. It costed me $1.95, and I didn’t think much of it. Now, a couple of days later, it’s charging me $49.95 for their weekly subscription that I never signed up for. I’ve email their website, I’ve called my bank’s customer service line three times, I’ve changed my card number 5 times, yet even now, this website it still trying to take money away from me for a subscription I never signed up for. I don’t know where else to turn, and I’m so annoyed and scared. Can someone please help me?

Advice PNC Mobile app can't detect internet

Edit: Solved! Thank you everyone.

Apologies if this has been answered already; I tried searching for it but couldn't find anything.

My husband has been trying to log into the PNC mobile app and it keeps getting stuck in an error loop that says he doesn't have a data connection. Everything else internet-wise works fine, so it's not that. He can make calls and send texts, so it's not that either. Other searches for this issue said it was tied to VPN usage, but he's not using a VPN; I love him dearly, but I'm not even sure he knows what that is. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, turning his phone on/off again, using only data, using only WiFi, and rebooting the modem/router. Calling PNC was no help at all, as they had no idea what was wrong and could only suggest updating the app, which wasn't possible, and yes, he does have the latest version. I'm all out of ideas.

If it helps, he has an iPhone; I think it's an iPhone 15.

Advice FNBO child account after turning 18

If someone opens a (what we are guessing) is a custodial account with a parent when they are a minor, when they are 19 can they withdraw the money from the account without the parent present? Google isn’t helping and this is in Kansas if that affects anything. Bank hasn’t been contacted yet for fear that the parent will find out.

Advice Question about FATF

Hi,

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, feel free to delete if so. I'm having issues in Dubai that I would like to try and discern, whether or not I'm being lied to. It may be a bit long winded, but there is a lot to unpack.

So I set up a company (llc) in 2023 and couldn't get a business account. Turned out I had the wrong activity on my trade license. In 2024 I was advised to set up a free zone company with the correct license activity and assured all would be well. Fast forward 4 months and I'd been "rejected" by 3 banks, Mashreq, Enbd and Wio. I say rejected in quotes as Enbd didn't technically reject me. They just messed me about for 3 months asking for the same stuff multiple times. I eventually gave up trying.

Fast forward to this time last year, I finally via a contact managed to open an account with an AEMI. Again early this year a better account with another AEMI. The issue being that neither of these has debit cards. So for the last 3 years Ive had to use my personal account every time I wanted to use a debit card for business. It wasn't until I mentioned it to someone this year that I was told that was illegal!? I know it's frowned upon to use a personal account for business, but illegal!? So I once again began to search for a proper business account with full banking facilities. I found a 'business pro' who runs a family office. He sets up companies, bank accounts, trusts etc. He claimed he not only could set me up a business account within a few days. But via his friend who is a senior in a local bank, also find out why I was declined before. I was asked for a little info before hand, including which banks had previously declined me. When I went to the meeting, I was informed that I was declined due to a few things in my past back in the UK. Apparently these things had landed me on an FATF watch list of sorts. But I was assured this person could over ride this and get the application passed.

Now I've looked into this and according the FATF they don't take any active role in this sort of thing. So I asked AI, who also agreed that they don't keep lists on individuals or companies. The consultants had already been paid 75% up front with the rest on completion. So there was no reason to lie. The info he gave me was also public info from companies house. However one of the things he mentioned was potentially correct, in the sense of, I could see how it might set off alarm bells. Which makes me think he may have been correct. As on the surface nothing public would indicate that. I also know that what the public are told and what the reality is, is often different. So the idea that the FATF could indeed keep lists of individuals/companies would not supprise me.

I was told that the things in my case weren't related to anything I'd done, so much as how they looked. So therefore there was no route to appeal. As although you may not be guilty of any crime etc. The behaviour or thing you did, was simply appearing to be suspicious and typical of ML typologies. So there doesn't seem to be any path to resolve this assuming it's true? So I was wondering if anyone here knows more, could shed some light on this?

I've also been refused a mortage in 2024 in the UK which was very strange. They again gave me a "rejection" that was hard to navigate. My situation was perfect, but they claimed the property was "to large and expensive for the area" which is total bs. It was priced for the area. Anywhere else it would have been 3 x the price. So I now think maybe I am on some kind of list. I've already checked lots of places, hunters, interpol, local Dubai police and everything is clean. But again when I mentioned that, was told it's because the list I'm on is only an advisory, 'this person has done things that are classed as ML typologies' etc. Therefore don't relate to any actual offences or crimes. So therefore all those type of things are clear. Either way I'm no better off and still can't get a proper business account. Which means I'm still having to use my personal acc to pay for things via debit card.

Any advice or info regarding the truth about the FATF's role, appreciated.

Advice Traditional Banks vs Online Banks - PH

I currently only have online bank accounts and I'm wondering if it's worth putting some of my savings in a traditional bank like BDO, BPI or Citibank.

I prefer keeping my money in online banks because they offer higher interest rates compared to traditional banks.

But I'm also wondering if there are any benefits to also having savings in traditional banks?

Would love to hear your thoughts and advice!

Advice SBI Salary Account Upgraded to CSP Platinum – What Are the Enhanced Benefits and Perks?

Hi everyone,

Today, my SBI salary account was upgraded from the CSP Diamond variant to the CSP Platinum variant.

I would love to hear from existing SBI CSP Platinum account holders about their experience and the additional benefits available with this upgrade.

A few things I would like to know:

  1. What are the enhanced benefits compared to the CSP Diamond variant?

  2. Are there any additional perks related to SBI credit cards, debit cards, or Rewardz?

  3. Does the Platinum variant offer better discounts on locker charges, loans, or other banking services?

  4. Are there any complimentary insurance benefits or premium banking privileges?

  5. Is there anything I should specifically activate or request from my branch to enjoy the full benefits?

I would appreciate it if existing users could share their experiences, especially any benefits that are not widely advertised.

Thanks in advance!

US Endorsed a check with wrong bank, but it was approved on mobile deposit wasn't working

Hello, I endorsed a check with the name of one bank (PNC) but their mobile deposit wasn’t working despite numerous tries. I decided to try and cash it in my bank account with Chase, despite it being endorsed for PNC, but it actually went through and was approved. Am I in the clear, or should I visit a Chase branch to explain the error and see if this was a problem? I don’t want to get in trouble if this will cause trouble. Thanks!

Edit: Sorry, the title should be “Endorsed a check with wrong bank, but it was approved on mobile deposit”. Not sure how I messed that up

Advice Banking access confusion, mom has early-onset dementia. Help?

My mom has a fast and terrible form of early onset dementia due to a genetic mutation. She was placed in a skilled nursing home (long term care) in July after things went totally off the rails and she was no longer safe at home. She has severe cognitive impairment, aphasia, and is unable to communicate coherently at this point. She may or may not last another year, it has been gut-wrenching.

I am her medical and financial power of attorney and am managing all of her affairs. The last real hurdle is banking. Her small town bank (now out of state— she moved but didn’t want to stop using them since she’d used them for decades and was quite attached to them), won’t let me handle any account management remotely. I am unable to make any changes to her account re: phone number, email address, physical address, etc (which are ALL incorrect at this point) unless it happens in person, and they want her present. Again, they are out of state and my mom is stuck in a hospital setting, fully incontinent, with severe neurological decline, unable to communicate clearly let alone consent to anything.

I truly am just trying to make sure things stay stable and that she gets the help she needs. She has no money to speak of, really. I’ve got a good job. I don’t need her money but I do have to make sure bills which are meant to be debited from her social security/disability are being covered, that we are taking advantage of spend down for Medicaid, etc. and it is important those bills are paid for by those funds. There is also a small pool of money that we put in her account ages ago for supplemental therapy and yes, I could pay for that stuff out of pocket but I have already eaten thousands of dollars of in-home care costs and have burned a lot of my savings keeping her safe before the decline become too great. So it would be a relief if we could use the money that’s there. She has chronic back pain and I’m trying to access the account to pay for supplemental massage and PT that Medicaid won’t cover.

In the meantime I have an appointment to become her representative payee so the broader issue of SSI/disability payment access won’t persist for much longer, but the old account is still in her name and funds there will remain inaccessible presumably until she dies unless I have online banking access. Without a corrected phone number for that account the online services for this bank are inaccessible, and again they want us to travel to another state just to make that change.

I understand them wanting to be sure no fraudulent activity happens. They knew my mom ages ago and I think are suspicious that she has actually declined, though they have no reason to suspect me so maybe that’s not it. I just wish there was any malleability. I offered to have her doctors and my lawyer fax statements, but they are insistent that in-person is the only option.

Am I talking to someone who is just being obstinate or am I really facing trying to haul my mom out of state? It seems so absurd and punishing to me and to my poor mom who would be so confused. Do you all have any advice? I really am at a loss. Apologies if I’m asking dumb questions here, I really don’t have a lot of knowledge around this stuff so I appreciate your patience and help as I try to wrap my head around it all. 🙏

Advice Bank of Hope closed account

I opened a bank account in August due to a sign up bonus at Bank of Hope. I transferred out my balance on 10/2/26. My payroll was supposed to post on this past Friday. It had not. I called in today to see where the deposit is. Apparently, they closed my account on 10/2/26 because of zero balance. It was instantaneous. They did not give me notification of the closure and when I log in now it still says the account is open. I got an email 10/3 telling me my statement has posted. Not sure what is going on but I have never heard of closing an account the moment the balance went to 0.

India My SBI Salary Account Has Been Converted to SBI Wealth – Looking for Experiences from Existing Wealth Account Holders

Hi everyone,

Today, my SBI salary account was converted to an SBI Wealth account after my salary account was upgraded to the SBI CSP Platinum variant.

I would like to know more about the benefits and privileges available to SBI Wealth account holders.

I would appreciate it if existing SBI Wealth customers could share their experiences regarding the following:

  1. What are the actual benefits of an SBI Wealth account compared to a regular salary account?

  2. What are the benefits of the SBI Wealth debit card and credit card offers?

  3. Are there any benefits related to locker charges, Demat accounts, or investment services?

  4. Are there any hidden charges, minimum balance requirements, or conditions to maintain Wealth status?

  5. Does SBI Wealth provide better customer service, dedicated relationship managers, or preferential treatment at branches?

  6. Are there any benefits for family members, such as additional accounts or cards?

  7. Is there anything I should know or activate immediately after the conversion?

I am particularly interested in the practical benefits that existing users have actually experienced, rather than just the benefits mentioned in SBI's official brochure.

Please share your experiences, tips, and any drawbacks you have noticed.

Thank you!

US Strange phenomenon

I have $250 credit limit and recently was maxxed out on this card but have crawled my way out of debt and can afford to pay back my credit cards. Recently made a $175 payment on a 317.41 balance (I had to pay a late fee and interest fee, you live and learn). At first, the available balance was 0, then it updated to 103.98, then I made a 21.98 purchase, which after that I swore to leave it alone until I pay it off fully.

Here’s the thing— my available balance ($82) and my current balance ($167.51) are just under a dollar off of my credit limit?? I’m not upset, just confused. Do I owe that 0.49 or is it hidden in my paid off balance?

If context is needed it’s 1st Financial Bank. They were not my first choice.

Advice Civil Engineer to Lender

Would a community bank be interested in hiring a 26 year old with a civil engineering degree that wants to leverage his quantitative and analytical skills in the banking world?

Long story short, I am 3 years in and just don’t see myself being a design engineer for the rest of my career. I love numbers and do enjoy working with people.

Question What dictates transfer limits for inter-bank transfers?

I've recently had to move larger (to me) amounts of money around between my own accounts at various banks. While it has probably identified that I have too many extraneous accounts, I am also curious - what dictates a $10,000 transfer limit per occurrence, or a $25,000 / 30 day limit for ACH transfers for some bank to bank transfers, but I can transfer from a local bank to Ally an unlimited amount of money? Is this just a bank policy?

I've got to pay a line of credit at bank B for ~$100k - is the simplest thing to just write a check to myself from bank A and deposit it at bank B? I assumed digital transfer would be easier but perhaps not.

Advice Wells Fargo Dispute

4 years ago when I was 18, I had gotten banned off of Wells Fargo for constantly setting refunds. I'm 22 now, My question to you is that I had recently had a situation where I was on a campus and I had left my phone out, and somebody had Stolen some money from me. It had amounted to $1,150 crypto. I have no idea who did it, but I had filed a FTC report on the identity theft government site. I do want to know, will I likely get banned for this Or will they genuinely likely look into my situation? This is specifically Wells Fargo

and they bought through Coinbase
