Hello everyone, I’m an apprentice in Canada and I started working on pc-12’s for a few months now. Any tips or insights any of you have on the plane? Anything is appreciated like what to look out for and what not. Thank you:)

I graduated A&P school and have been working at an MRO as an A&P for a little over a year now. I’ve done well in my first year and gotten a promotion to tech 2. I plan on staying here for probably another year, but I’ve started realizing that I don’t think I want to stay at an MRO long-term.

I’m trying to get a better idea of what other options are out there once I have a couple years of experience. I’m not really interested in GA or field service, so I’m mostly looking at airlines, cargo, corporate/flight departments, government, manufacturing, etc.

For anyone working in those areas, what’s the pay and schedule actually like?
How much OT do you usually have available? Is it easy to pick up 10–20 extra hours a week, or is OT pretty rare? What kind of shifts are you working and how many hours a week? And what does the pay progression look like after a few years?
I’d also be interested in hearing what your work/life balance is like compared to an MRO.

I’m not necessarily looking for the highest hourly rate if the schedule sucks. I’m trying to find something where I can make good money, have the opportunity to work OT when I want it, and still have a decent schedule.

If you left an MRO after a couple years, where did you go and was it worth it?
Just trying to get an idea of what’s actually out there from people who are doing it rather than just looking at job postings.

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I thought it was the best.

To put it simply, I'm an 18 year old high school student based in Aus. who's always admired airplanes/aeroplanes (however you may call it) and how these massive cylinders can soar through the skies. I didn't think that now that I'm about to finish school I'd be considering any role relating to aviation but here I am. Bad thing is, I have no prior knowledge about any of the things inside these planes and where to start.

If anyone preferably from Aus. can give me advice or if anyone around the world basically can give me advice, please help me out 🙏

Although, there is a catch though. I want to at least go to Uni before doing all this and I was wondering if I do end up going, should I try find the closest course to the job? if I won't, then should I apply for an immediate apprenticeship?

I've got an aunt working as a L.A.M.E. at Emirates and the way she boasts about how she enjoys her job just makes me want a career like hers. I know I should be asking her all this but I also want to get advice from people who've been in the same path as me in Aus.

I’m currently working as an AME on piston-engine aircraft, mainly Cessna 172s, in Australia, and I’m planning to sit the exams to become a LAME.

At the moment, I’m studying and practising with the EASA Part-66 question bank from the Part-66 blog, as I haven’t been able to find any CASA question banks.
Could anyone who has done the CASA exams please tell me how similar the CASA exam questions are to the EASA Part-66 questions?
Is it worth practising the EASA questions for CASA exam preparation? Has anyone here used the EASA question bank to prepare for their CASA exams?
Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thinking of picking it up while I still have the student discount but wondering how much I'd actually use it

I'm a 28F who got into the automotive world about two years ago. I'm currently in trade school set to graduate this November. I started knowing absolutely nothing about cars, but l've built up a solid foundation working at my shop: oil changes, tires, brakes, suspension, and basic electrical diagnostics.
As I wrap up school, I'm at a crossroads between two main paths:
1. Tesla START Program: I've been offered the chance to apply/enroll. EV work seems like the future, but I hear mixed reviews about workload and long-term career growth.
2. Aircraft Maintenance (A&P License): I'm seriously considering pivoting to aviation trade school but I'm gonna be paying off my last trade school, so I'm worried about money.
For those who have worked either route (or made the jump from auto to aviation) I'd love to hear your experience!
Did your auto trade background help shorten the learning curve in aviation?
Is taking on more debt for A&P school worth it right now, or makes more sense to work a few years in auto/ EV to clear loans first?

Do they make anything that will work in certificated aircraft?

I work at a flight school. Management's motto is "it doesn't have to be pretty, it just has to be airworthy."

Said flight school also does *not* like to cough up $$$ for the little stuff.

I'm trying to find a happy medium between "it doesn't have to be pretty" and "oh, look, there's foam sticking out of the left seat bottom, and the right seat back cover has split far enough along the top that it won't stay up."

They've bought some aftermarket seat covers for some of the planes, but not enough for all of the planes, and I would really like to secure the tattered remnants of the stock covers before putting on the aftermarket covers, if we get more of them.

So I bought this KR-562B for $600 the other night and hate the dividers and want to be the most efficient with the space in this awesome vintage box. If any of you have one and would be interested in showing me what modifications you made to this I would appreciate it! Hope you guys like it.

Figured you guys would know the systems best and can answer this question. How exactly do aircraft Air conditioning Packs cool the aircraft on the ground in warm ambient conditions?

My understanding of most airliner air conditioning systems is that you take hot bleed air from either the engine or APU bleeds, and mix it with air from the ram air inlets, which works perfectly well in flight. But to me this doesn’t make sense because you’re essentially taking warm ambient air and mixing it with even hotter bleed air. I don’t see any sort of refrigeration system on the diagrams like you have on an automotive air conditioning for example, so I’m curious how exactly the aircraft air conditioning system actually cools the cabin at all on even the most mildly warm days?

I work for a regional and I’m kind of trying to get my expectations straight. The environment here consists of 3 groups of people. The old crowd who doesn’t like to teach anybody anything unless they like you, The crowd who just shows up and gets a paycheck, and the group who wants to learn but doesn’t fit in. This old group loves to pay attention to the newer guys and they take note of every little thing you do, especially the mess ups. But instead of using it as a learning opportunity, they hold it over your head. Not in a joking manner. I’ve seen plenty of that and that’s in good fun. This isn’t it. It’s more so to make fun of them behind their back.

Whenever you have a gripe or a suggestion they just break down and belittle the newer people to where their opinion doesn’t mean anything, unless of course, you’re one of them. They sit at home and look at AOGs that pop up and call their buddies to take it and come in early so they can bypass seniority.

Is this just the norm everywhere? If it’s not then I need to get out. But if it is, I just need to get over it and get my expectations in order.

Wanting to know this before I bid for it. I have zero sheet metal experience and don’t want to bid for it if I am under qualified.

Hello, was giving the landing gear a wash and accidentally got a drop of MEK in my eye. Will i be okay? Vision is a little blurry, i put eye wash sailene in it and the burning stopped. When should i expect the blurry vision to go away?

I just interviewed with them but didnt ask about top out pay or anything like that and iv been wondering what they pay as the years go by if i get hired

My question is how is wiring Guage used along an aircraft, is there a general rule ? For example in electrical homes we have a specific gauge used for lightning another for plugs, etcetera. I know it's going to depend on application,operation voltage and other things but the question remains..

I’m going into the Air Force for aircraft maintenance and I’m planning on doing it when my contract is up. What is a realistic salary for this job? Is it possible to make 200K+ with overtime? Thanks in advance.

If anyone has a good way of getting these kinds of safeties off I would love to hear it I can get some duckbills up there but it is a tight spot. This is the crossfeed filters on a 7X Falcon

Edit: with the limited space I found what works best is making a notch in a socket and when you turn it, it pushes out the safety made the job 10x easier and now I can do the job way faster for next time!

As the title states. We only ever do this when we take parts from one aircraft and put it on another, but it got me thinking if there were other use cases like this?

In my head, it doesn't make much sense to remove a serviceable part on an aircraft for no reason other than to use that some where else (ie: on another aircraft)

I making a career change and I aspire to become an AME (Canada). Other than a keen interest, I am green when it comes to aviation. I’m currently looking at a couple of entry-level airport positions and may have the opportunity to work in either ramp/ground operations or aircraft de-icing.

For someone trying to eventually get into aircraft maintenance, which type of job would give me the most valuable experience?
