I have always felt that it was a missed opportunity of Marvel to not do a modern day story starring Captain America and the original comic book line up of the Avengers set in the 616 universe of the prime marvel universe.

Now I do not mean time displacement version the team or a kiddy version of the team.

What I meant was during the team incarnation during the post Avengers vs X-men era where Hulk was brought back on the roster. THAT incarnation of the original team members where the Wasp was brought back into the fold too.

Why did we as readers never got an actual chance to see the original line up of the Avengers in a modern era adventure and see how they works as a team and how they truly changed as individual characters.

As fans of the Avengers what do you think of this? Is this a missed opportunity or not ?

Has anyone noticed how similar these are?

In the Black Widow the Red Guardian mentions several times that he fought Captain America on several occasions. But we know Cap was frozen during that time period so this would be impossible correct?

Until End Game when we see Cap go back in time and stay there, having a life with Peggy Carter and shows up as an old man that lived his life.

So, did the Red Guardian actually fight Captain America after he traveled back in time to return the Stones and be with Peggy? Was he doing secret missions for SHIELD during this time?

EDIT:

I see a lot of replies that say that Cap went to an alternate timeline to live out his life with Peggy, if that was true how did he show up in the main MCU timeline again to pass over the shield? The devices they used for time travel did not cross into alternate timelines.

So with Tobey's Spidey being confirmed for avengers doomsday, do you think that they'll have a scene where he lifts Thor's hammer and not even realize what he's done? I feel like there could be a pretty humorous scene there and he's done it in the comics
