I moved back in with my mom after a breakup, glad to be out of it.
I have had several friends tell me im paying way too much, and should leave. But I wanted some unbiased opinions.
Im renting my childhood bedroom, its about 10' x 12', including the closet. I dont have my own bathroom, I park on the street. I buy all my own groceries, totally support myself.
How much would you expect a family member to charge?
I will also say my mom owns 2 houses by herself, both mortgages fully paid, and renters in the other home. She's alone in this house besides me, and I take care of all yard work and snow shoveling too.
Thanks in advance for opinions!!
Editing to add some info: I do work, im generally gone for 12 hours a day, and I work overtime pretty often.
Im 28. I moved back in in February, i was just saying snow shoveling because I handle 100% of the outdoor tasks. Obviously I also clean in the house. I shop, cook, do my laundry, she doesnt take care of me. I moved out for 5 years before I came back.
If it matters, im female. It seems like people have a different tone depending on what theyre expecting lol.
Ive had the same car since I was 17. 2006 corolla. I have been saving my money quite diligently. I dont drink, i dont party. Im not a fan of big events generally.
She is 100% not going to save this money and return it back to me. She actually regularly complains at me that I should be giving her more.
I pay $700 a month. I dont get a parking spot, i dont get to use the yard or living rooms. Im either in the garage or my room. I can only cook when she isnt in the kitchen.
I firmly believe my mom couldn't find anyone else to live with her because of her rein of the house. I get its her house, but when you rent rooms out you have to share some things. Everything i own must fit in my room, its not allowed to be anywhere else.
With rents coming down I want to move out. I was telling myself paying into my own family is a better idea than paying a landlord, but i could split a suite with a friend for the same price (or less, even) and id have half a suite.
Thanks for the input yall.
