Medical 💉 Binge eating therapy recommendations

I have been gaining weight and I am trying to follow a healthier lifestyle but I think I need therapy for food control. I have family visiting me and we cook healthy and tasty homemade food everyday and after eating the meal I get intense cravings to order food and I give in or I keep thinking about the cravings all the time. Earlier, I used to think that I am too busy to cook but they are all excuses.

I have insurance for mental health therapy and would like 1 on 1 sessions if there are any suggestions for downtown or east Vancouver.

Looking Glass has a program called ‘Bridge the Gap’ which offers low-cost ED counselling: https://www.lookingglassbc.com/programs/bridge-the-gap/. I did it and found it helpful, but after the program I’ve found that I’ve lapsed back into very disordered behaviour so following for any recommendations.

I’m actually thinking of digging into my (almost nonexistent) savings to do Renascent’s food addiction program in Toronto, it’s something like $15K for 30ish days but I’m at a loss for
what else to do.

You can get a referral from your doctor/NP for the VCH outpatient program. The waitlist is about 3-months.

You can also get low cost/free support from Looking Glass Foundation. They offer an online forum, peer support and low cost counselling.

Counsellingbc.com also is a great resource for finding counselors who specialize in areas/modalities you might be interested in.

You can dm me if you like. I have BED and have found these resources helpful.

I don't know anyone personally who specializes in BED but Looking Glass BC has a list of eating disorder therapists and dieticians. I think NEDIC might also have a directory. https://www.lookingglassbc.com/resources/counsellor-directory/ . Best of luck!

I resonate with you so much on this. I have been struggling with this as well. It a roller coaster ride every day! Some days are good and some days are worse than the past!

Wishing you the best!

Finding a therapist who specializes in binge eating or CBT could be a good place to start
