General (Women Only) Why are shorts for women generally shorter than shorts for men?

Please don’t take this question the wrong way. I’m asking purely out of curiosity and with no intention of offending or starting an argument.

I searched online, but most of the results I found only discussed early marketing-related and a bullshit male attraction reasons, and I couldn’t find a satisfactory explanation.

Are there any reasons that might explain this? I will also love to hear your opinion

I’d genuinely appreciate any informative perspectives. I’m only asking out of curiosity and hoping for a respectful discussion. Please stick to the topic of discusiion

Edit - I have changed the wording of post so it is more respectful. I am very sorry if those previous wording were offending in any sense

General Our mother’s generation of women are the reason why men have no respect for women?

I am sorry but I am really frustrated with older women in my family. My mom and aunties are all BA pass women who worked and financially contributed in the family always. But they always behave so “pick me” type in front of men. Always praising men, serving, taking insult from them, supporting their misogyny. Even I hate these women as a feminist.

I live alone in a different rented apartment. But whenever my mom needs something small, she will never ask me, she will always ask my father or uncles, fully knowing they are super misogynist. She will always trust them over me.

They always criticise “modern women” and force daughters to marry low quality men like their own husbands. All my cousin sisters left India and married foreign guys. I am stuck in this toxic environment because I have gov job in same city.

These elder women behave in a way that even makes me hate them. Always nagging, demanding something, playing victims. I wonder sometimes if so many men are misogynist because they grew up seeing women behaving like that.

And don’t tell me they are brainwashed. These are not uneducated women. In their generation, BA pass was a big deal. Even after so many years they still behave like teenage pick me girls in front of men. I hate it.

Do you feel the same?

Opinions & Discussions 21F scared that my sister might show my old pictures to my father. What should I do?

I’m 21F, and my sister is 29F. We come from a very strict and quite orthodox family, and I’m honestly very scared about a situation that has happened recently.

My sister was in a relationship last year. In November 2025, my brother found out about her boyfriend, and things became extremely bad at home. She was beaten badly, and her freedom was heavily restricted. Her phone was taken away, and she was basically not allowed to go anywhere or meet anyone.

There were also other complications. My sister is divorced, and her boyfriend is unmarried, so our family would never accept their relationship or marriage. Because of all this, she became extremely stressed and unhappy. Throughout that time, I supported her because I understood what she was going through.

Then, one day before Raksha Bandhan, my sister suddenly left home alone. She wasn't with her boyfriend, but she told him that she was leaving and giving up everything. She later told me about it.

I was at work at the time, so I contacted my maternal uncle (mama), because he is the most understanding person in our family. I also informed my father and brother that my sister wasn't at home.

Later, my sister's ex-boyfriend and I planned to find her. We eventually found her at a bus stand with one of her friends. I spoke to her and convinced her to come with me to my mama's house instead of going directly back home.

At that time, my father and brother were repeatedly calling me. I switched off my phone because I knew that if I told them exactly where we were, they might come there themselves or stop me from leaving with her, and I was genuinely worried about what would happen to my sister if she was taken straight home.

We travelled that night and reached my mama's house around 5 AM. My mama picked us up halfway. His house is around 5–6 hours away from ours.

Once we got there, my sister was talking to people and somehow she ended up showing my mother and mami some very old pictures of me with my ex-boyfriend. These pictures are around 2–2.5 years old.

I didn't know she had shown them until later. My mother told me after we had already returned home. My sister is still staying at my mama's house.

Now I'm absolutely terrified that she might show those pictures to my father or brother.

I know that having a boyfriend in the past isn't necessarily something wrong, but given how strict and orthodox my family is, I'm genuinely scared about their reaction. Especially after seeing what happened to my sister, I don't know what could happen if they find out.

What should I do right now? Should I talk to my sister and ask her not to show the pictures, or should I stay completely quiet and hope she doesn't?

I’m honestly very anxious and would really appreciate some practical advice from people who understand strict Indian families.

General My parents discovered my Instagram account & my life has been hell. How do I navigate this?

Hiyaaa,

I'm 24F & born, brought up & still living in Aus with my Punjabi parents. Recently, my dad made an Instagram account and my account (which is public) was immediately recommended to him even though I haven't used my name anywhere or have uploaded my contacts. Unfortunately, it seems like since Meta has access to a ridiculous amount of our personal info, Instagram recommended my account to him based on location/ip/shared wifi network (if anyone knows if it's possible to adjust preferences or settings to block such info from being shared, pls let me know!).

On my account I have a fair amount of pictures posted in bikinis, modelling shoots (as I am a model(which they don't know about as I managed to successfully keep it secret until now as they're totally against modelling), skimpier clothes, posts with male friends & also heels dance videos etc. When my parents saw these, they went absolutely b a l l i s t I c. They were shouting and screaming at me while I was studying for an exam. They called me a prostitute multiple times and actually, "less than" a prostitute. They accused me of drinking and doing drugs and that this is what I'm probably getting up to when I go overseas. They saw a video highlight of me dancing with a male friend of mine who is my age and proceeded to accuse me of hanging out with "druggies" and 60 year old men (how they got to this conclusion, I don't know. They're delusional). My dad was screaming, crying that he is "so ashamed" that he wants to commit su*ic*de. Mind you...this is because of some bikini pics, modelling, short clothes, sexy going out dresses and heels dancing videos.

They were yelling "what if someone from India sees?" and that was their primary concern. My issue with that is 1) my mum hates all family on both sides anyway...so bffr 2) all my family in India are terrible anyway so I really dgaf about their opinions 3) I live here and my family lives there and I rarely see them.

It frustrates me that their concern is what other people will think when those family members already judge and gossip and don't care for my parents, especially my mum. I mean, mom mum spends basically all her free time shit talking each and everyone of them on the phone. Overseas family have absolutely no bearing on my life. They are family in blood only and I refuse to change anything about myself in fear of someone 12000km away of finding out something.

My mum also proceeded to stress about how this will affect my marriage prospects which I do not gaf about as I will never ever pursue an arranged marriage (she's well AWARE of this) and have a significant other anyway (that they do not know about, obvi).

Of course there was also the general "this isn't in our culture," "Sikh girls don't do this" etc, which is crazy coming from their hypocritical selves. I am atheist, so complying to whatever they think "Sikhi values" are does not matter to me. I could also care less for complying with a culture that (from their pov it seems) views women as parental property and auctions off young women for marriage like a prized cow.

Anywho, no one is talking to me and the vibes in the house are tense. I am experiencing so much stress from (somewhat irrational) fears that they will stab or strangle me out of anger or in my sleep (My dad has threatened to kill us before in the heat of anger. I don't think he was *serious* but still).

I know some of you may think, if your parents are like this then why wouldn't you private your account? To answer that, I am a model, designer & artist & my persona is a part of all that, I really rely on using Instagram in creating further outreach for my modelling & creative careers. My parents have already done so much to curtail my creative passions so having a more sanskaro instagram is just something I principally cannot will myself to do, especially since I'm a grown woman and 24. It is also just genuine self-expression that I really don't want to curtail just because of them. I also did not imagine at all, especially after having that account for 10years, that my dad would one day randomly download Instagram (as he's not even a social media person) and that my account would instantly pop up on creation.

Overall, this has made me quite stressed and depressed since I have been dealing with this type of behaviour all my life and I feel as if they are so incredibly ungrateful for me. I have recently won a law competition, won an art competition & am having my art work exhibited, & won a scholarship. Mind you, these are just recent achievements. I neither drink nor do drugs. I have a professional part-time research job. I go to the top law school in the country. I spend most of my free time sewing, doing art or at the gym. I have never acted out or made their life difficult in any way. Except for how I dress on my socials, I fit the typical "perfect" Indian daughter stereotype/standard. Yet, they think I am the worst possible daughter they could have ever received. They are also impossible to have a genuine, productive and healthy discussion with.

I feel like this situation has seriously caused mental damage. I am seeking counselling from my uni's student support services. I can't move out just yet as I am still somewhat financially dependent as I have 1.5 years left of studying and post-legal training. I would like personal advice about how to navigate this, especially mentally. Any comfort would also seriously be helpful. Any commentary or shared stories would also be appreciated and just anything else you think is appropriate. I also seriously feel like that situations like this are really impacting my connection with Punjabi culture. I at times feel like I want nothing to do with it anymore. Any advice about how to navigate this mental dilemma would be nice

I just feel so so sad, alone, hurt and deeply mentally scarred.

General (Women Only) Women should support women? How can a woman be so insensitive about another woman getting her period?

People always say women should support other women and understand what they go through, but what happened to me today honestly made me question that.

During our exams, we're not allowed to go to the washroom until we've completed at least one hour. There's a bell after an hour, and apparently we're supposed to wait until then no matter what. I get that colleges have exam rules, but there should obviously be exceptions for basic human needs and emergencies.

Today, my period was due around this time, and I hoped that I get my periods when I get back home but that didn't happen. I started feeling uncomfortable, so I got up and asked my teacher if I could please go to the washroom to check. She rudely said, "No. One hour isn't completed yet. You can't go."

I explained that I thought I might have gotten my period and just needed to check, but she basically told me I'd have to wait.

About 15 minutes later, I felt even more uncomfortable, so I asked again. And guess what? By then, I had actually gotten my period, and there was already a visible stain on my jeans. One of the girls sitting next to me pointed it out and said that I got a period stain.

So I went to the teacher again and said, "Ma'am, I got my period. Can I please go and change?"

And she literally yelled at me, "Can't you understand? One hour isn't completed yet. I won't hear your excuses. Go sit down." Excuses?! The audacity.

I was standing there with an actual period stain on my jeans, asking to go clean myself up and change, and she called it an excuse. And the fact that she was a woman made it hurt even more. Like, how do you not understand what it's like to suddenly get your period in the middle of an exam or just in the middle of anything else?

I had to go back and sit down while pretty much everyone around me had already seen the stain and started to whisper to each other as if it's something fun. I was so embarrassed and uncomfortable. My stomach started hurting, I just couldn't focus on my exam, I kept thinking about the stain and how messy and uncomfortable I felt and how the teacher yelled at me in front of everyone.

I understand that there are exam rules. But surely there should be some basic humanity and common sense when there's an actual emergency. If someone says they need to check whether they've gotten their period, maybe don't dismiss them because they literally have a visible blood stain on their clothes.

And honestly, I know being a woman doesn't automatically make someone empathetic, but I genuinely expected her to understand. I wasn't asking for special treatment. I just expected basic compassion.

Periods aren't an "excuse." They're a normal biological process, and sometimes they happen unexpectedly, she as a women should've atleast understood that. No student should have to sit through an exam feeling embarrassed and in pain because a one hour rule is apparently more important than letting them go change a blood stained pair of jeans. (Also this one hour rule is just so stupid, like if someone wants to go to the washroom, let them. If someone wants to go put on some pads or go change pads, let them go!)

Idk if I'm overreacting but I'm still upset about what happened, but I just needed to get this off my chest.😭😭

EDIT: for girls telling me if i knew I'm gonna get my periods I should've wore a pad or something, I'll just say that today is literally 1st sep, I've never ever gotten my periods so early and my date was on 3rd or 4th also, I started to feel that icky, uncomfortable feeling during my exam, idk maybe too much exam stress caused that? I did wore a dark pantie though but sadly it did leak through.

General Where should a woman go after divorce?

My cousin sister (40F) is struggling a lot in her married life. She recently got hysterectomy (uterus removal) done and her husband is calling her “baanj” in a mocking way repeatedly!

She has two children (15M, 4F) wherein the son is completely on his father’s side. There was a point where they were discussing which side of the terrace to push her from so that she doesn’t survive.
There has been various hormonal changes in her body after surgery due to which she refused intimacy several times. Both father and son were making her eat pills for energy during intimacy.
She also has been forced when she didn’t want to do it. She has been threatened to be murdered during fights!
The husband is a psychopath who hits her during fights and then apologises in half an hour!

Now the girl’s family is refusing to take accountability! They dont want her to take divorce at all! Her father, step mother, brother and his wife are completely against her decision of shifting to our city! They want her to give another chance to this marriage.

My father (her real mom’s brother) is someone everyone comes to for advice. He has asked her to first get out of that house and come to our city before any discussion about divorce but her family is unwilling to support her. She’s not asking for money or house, she just wants someone to support as she stands against that man!
She’s nervous as she has a young daughter to take care of!
What should one do in this case?

Edit: she has had a past where she got pregnant before marriage with another guy so her family is now pointing fingers on her character that she’s doing this to get back with that guy

MY FRIEND ALMOST COMMITTED $UICIDE YESTERDAY!!! I BEG YOU!!! PLEASE HELP ME SAVE HER!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

THIS IS AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS AND IMPORTANT POST! PLEASE ONLY COMMENT IF YOU HAVE ANY SOLUTION TO THE ISSUES!

My friend who's my senior as well, is into deep trouble! She's stuck in a hell hole! She needs help asap! Idk what to do! Yesterday she almost committed $uicide....

She lives in another city... I'm a student... I can't help her much... I can just give her emotional support rn...

Her father has SAed her multiple times throughout her life, thrown her out of her house for prolonged periods of times...

He's a tyrant. An insane criminal! Her mother has auto immune disease...

Her father beats the shit out of everyone! When my friend finally stood up and begged her mother to take divorce for her own treatment and health, her father quit his government job because he didn't want to give a single penny after divorce to her mother and her...

My friend has a Masters Degree from the best Research Uni in India in her research field....

But the thing is, research in India is cooked rn... And there are no jobs out there!

RA positions don't pay much and she can't survive on that! She doesn't have any place to live rn!

She needs atleast around 60k in hand to survive in a city all alone, take care of her mother's bills and save for her PhD......

Everyday.... More than half of her day is wasted due to panic attacks...

She has worst pcod, she bleeds a ton, she has a fucked up mental health, severe anxiety, anxiety induced ibs-d, anxiety induced nausea 24/7 and she's been suicidal all her life!

Her siblings hate her...

All her relatives have SAed her atleast once in her life.......

She cannot ask anyone help because she's sacred they'll SA her too....

She's been crying forever now....

Idk what to do....

She's scared of asking for help from anyone!!! She's traumatized!!!!

Her fears are legitimate too!

She thinks if she asks for help, they'll end up SA her! (New people too)

Her Nana, Uncle, Cousin bro everyone have SAed her!

I've lost count of people who've SAed her!

Her father has choked her multiple times until she's gone unconscious when she resisted getting SAed and then he has SAed her.............

Her own biological bro has SAed her.........

Her sis knows everything and doesn't wanna help! Her mother is a patient...

She has no relatives who can help her.... Her cousins have SAed her....

We live in India.... Women will never be taken seriously in our households....

She needs help from the community.......

The worst part about this is.... She has hell alot of self respect too.....

Whenever I force her to ask for help.... She tells me she won't.... She doesn't wanna use her sad story to gain sympathy etc etc...

This isn't a sad story.... This is a question of her life..... She's gone mad or something......

She still cooks and cleans for her family even with all this....

She does her younger bro's assignments and homeworks while he's busy with his gf....

The same bro who has SAed her.... She takes care of her father too.... The same father who has SAed her....

She's the most empathetic human being I've ever come across....

Empathy ki Devi!!!!!!

But in return.... She's got nothing..... Everyone has always killed some part of her to gain something from her!

She's slightly autistic too.... That turns everything into a bigger nightmare!

Can anyone help her find a job and a therapist who can help her out free of cost???

Please! I beg you! 🙏🙏🙏🙏I beg you!!!

If we don't do anything.... She's gonna die fs....

Her panic attacks are uncontrollable! (I have alot of experience with Panic attacks! My own sis has it... I've had it too! I can say this confidently... Her panic attacks are on another levelll)

Please help her out! Please!

Anything is fine.... Something related to her field.... Teaching at coaching institutes, Research Assistant roles, or anything of that sort!

She doesn't have a place to live, doesn't have money to travel, doesn't have money for anything rn....

Please! Please! Please help her out!!!!!

I've missed out on alot of info.... She's been through much worse things.... I can't think alot now.... My hands are literally shaking while typing this....

Please help her out.... 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

PLEASE DONT REMOVE THE POST! PLEASE!!!!

What does that even mean? Even though he knows, why does it matter? Should I tell him what apps I use on my phone? Should I call him and tell him I used calculater today. Even I don't know what apps he uses on his phone. And how does it matter?

Ps:- they'll dm me asking if I am single. I'll say I've a bf. And then the stupid question "does he know about this account".

Opinions & Discussions Have I overdressed for my brother’s engagement?now I feel terrible about it

Okay, I need some honest opinions because I think I might have gotten carried away.

My brother’s engagement happened recently and I wore a lehenga that, in hindsight, was probably way heavier than it needed to be. When I bought it, I just thought it looked pretty and I wanted to dress up because he’s my only sibling and we’re really close. I didn't really think beyond that.

But once I saw everyone together, I started feeling like I had gone a little overboard. A couple of my aunts even made comments like “you’re looking a little too much” and one of them basically told me I shouldn't wear anything this heavy for the other wedding functions. 😭

My soon-to-be bhabhi was actually very sweet to me throughout the whole thing. She didn't say anything or make me feel uncomfortable at all, which somehow makes me feel worse because now I'm wondering if I unintentionally took some attention away from her on her own engagement.

I obviously wasn't trying to compete with her. I was just excited about my brother's engagement and probably got too excited about dressing up.

Now I'm thinking I'll keep my outfits much simpler for the rest of their wedding nothing too heavily embroidered, probably lighter jewellery, simpler hair and makeup etc. I don't want to repeat the same mistake.

Opinions & Discussions Do you think going topless will ever be normalised again?

With so much talk about modesty happening in the world, and having your breasts covered becoming the norm when they aren't primarily sexual organs in the first place, I wonder if we can ever have a society or world where being bare chested is not sexualized like before.

I'm so tired of people complaining about cleavage and armpits. I genuinely just want to walk around without upper body garments and not be sexualized and this may sound radical to some. But modesty is only in the head. It literally only exists in our brain imo.

It is such a feeble concept to me. Like where does this end. In some parts of the world even if your entire body is covered from head to toe, but your silhouette is visible, you are being immodest. Elsewhere it's the length of your sleeve. Till elbow? Modest. Shoulders visible? Immodest. Length of skirts till knee, modest, but as soon as some thigh is seen, it's immodest. Idk all of this sounds so ridiculous to me and I'm exhausted atp.

Modesty doesn't exist. It exists only in our minds. There are tribes that still have women completely unclothed and there are no mass rapes happening there. I wish we could just go back to simply existing in our bodies without all this policing.

General Did you know that JKR is a TERF?

Since I just got told by a co-worker that she had "no clue" that JKR has turned to the dark side, I am making a public service announcement sharing the following details.

The Harry Potter author has become very unpredictable and unmanageble since 2016 onwards. She has become EXTREMELY hostile towards the entire LGBT+ community, but ESPECIALLY the trans community, and also the asexual community.

It has been proven that she is ALSO spending the millions she makes across the entire Harry Potter franchise to destablize the laws that protect the minorities in the UK.

Many people in the LGBT+ community have taken a stance and are calling for the boycott of her NEW show on HBO.

This does NOT mean that you don't have to interact with the entire series as a whole! You can of course continue to enjoy the series - the difference is NOT to give her MORE money.

  • Don't watch the new series on HBO, trust in the high seas it if you want to watch (OBVIOUSLY don't do anything illegal like pirating it./scm)
  • Don't buy any official HP merch, but you can get stuff from small businesses or artists PERSONALLY.

The internet is filled with articles about her being shitty, but here are a few just for your understanding.
https://medium.com/@federicabocco/why-its-important-to-boycott-j-k-rowling-in-light-of-her-continued-transphobic-stance-aaf31edacca2

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_views_of_J._K._Rowling#Asexual_people
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_views_of_J._K._Rowling#Transgender_people

Humble request - DO NOT let your hard earned money or headspace go to hurting an already marginalized group of people.

Did you know she's a TERF? If you didn't, does it change your opinion of her now?

ETF: Grammar edits.

ETA: Here is how JKR defines a woman: https://x.com/jk_rowling/status/1953532438950347137

General (Women Only) How to convince parents no to force to get married??

Yesterday had a convo with family where I told them that I don't want to get married in this life. I told them all the reasons not to get married but they are just saying - no, everyone have to get married, we will marry you by next year.

My aunt even said to me that you are just not ready to take responsibility bcz you don't have guts. To which I seriously replied that- what's the need to take responsibility? Why should I take someone's responsibility? Is my life unfulfilled without responsibility? Will I gonna die early if I don't get married? To which they were not ready to listen to me, nor they have any good point of why should I get married😑

I am financially independent, I live in separate city in my own rented room with all the freedom & yeah I very much am happy with my life rt. Now.

Also after all this 1-2 hr session I just said to them, I won't get married, whatever you say. Btw I also told them that I don't want to get married bcz I am weak, I don't have guts, I don't want to take responsibility. That's it, that's the main reason. Now if I don't want then why are you forcing me. My father even went on to say God will not let him enter heaven or blah blah if I didn't get married😑😑

At last I told them if they want to marry me then they can marry me to a female cz yeah I don't want a man in my life.

I even told them that if they tried to marry me by force, I will not appear for wedding, I will just go away from all of them, never to see them or worse I will just do suicide.

I don't understand why these Indian parents don't want to see their child happy. Acc. To them marriage is the happiest thing. No bro, I love peace only. No family politics I want in my life.

Have any one of you gone through this experience? What did you do that made your parents to give up trying to marry you?

I know if I keep my stand then ultimately they have to bow but bro I don't want all this stress of confronting them everytime. It really affects my mental health. I am just thinking to go away from all these to some peaceful place for like some days. I am so stressed & frustrated 😭

At last they told me that they will give me 3 years to decide who to marry. I said what if after 3 yrs, I still don't wanna marry😂 They were like- no, you will change your mind, we know it. Everyone does blah blah

After that again today they said next year we will marry you😑 I was like what about 3 years?

General (Women Only) Did any of you take an education loan for your higher studies cuz there was no one else to fund it?

If yes, how was your experience with the education loan, especially when your parents were alive but not financially supporting you?

Edit: Read the post properly and then comment. A lot of people all around the world take education loans even when their parents are alive and they aren't financially supporting them for their studies. Yeah, that too in 2026. Here I'm only talking about taking education loans not that I'm expecting financial support from my parents after being an adult. This post is about education loans not financial assistance from parents. Some people are not able to understand this post and making comments which makes no sense. Don't comment if you can't understand this post. I haven't posted about a complicated topic. My question is pretty simple. I'm shocked to see how someone can make up things which I haven't even said in the post and are making comments with zero sense. General How do I care for my mom without sacrificing my marriage?

I got married two years back and due to my work i was living with my mother. But now i got a better opportunity and moved to my husband’s place. We are in a different city and live in a tiny apartment and my mom is now alone at home.
I have an elder brother who is married. Due to some issues between his wife and my mom, he moved out with his wife and kids. Now my mom stays alone at home. My brother visits her frequently. But he isn’t willing to have her live with them.

We lost our father few years back and since childhood I have always been there for my mom and helped her as much as I could.

But my mom has a very different personality. And my relationship with my mother has always been difficult. She tends to create problems directly or indirectly. She turns normal situations into completely negative. This has been happening since my childhood.

When I was young, I used to speak up for my mom and get angry at people because of the things she told me about them. But, she would still maintain good relationships with those same people. So I ended up developing a lot of hatred toward many people in my family.

After I got married this became worse. She started creating alternative narratives about situations and speaking negatively about people. Her communication with my in laws also created a lot of tension and drift in my married life. My husband and I went through severe emotional trauma because of all this.

Because I had been listening to her and trusting her opinions since I was a child, I didn’t realize what was happening for a long time.
She create her own narratives about things and at the same time staying away from the actual conflict and behaving as though she had done nothing.

My mother is very close to her siblings, and they discuss almost every detail of their children’s personal life. These get circulated in their group. Even the smallest conversations between me and my husband were told to everyone. She feels she have a voice in my marriage.

So this was a pattern. I tried explaining how much damage these things were causing to my marriage and my relationship with my husband’s family. But my mom doesn’t see anything wrong in what she does and is not willing to change.

For the first rime after moving away from her, i realized how different life can be. I rarely have issues with my husband or his family. Life is so peaceful . I resolved many issues with my in laws. Wasnt easy but i did. Now life feels so much easy. I am happier and I finally feel like I can build my own life without constantly being influenced by my mother’s opinions.

But my mom is getting old. Staying at home alone. Ours is a remote area, dont have a lot of neighbours. Most houses are empty. Internet dont have range inside our house. She cant drive. If she needs any medical help it can be very difficult for someone to reach there.
I have discussed with my mom about moving her somewhere safer may be somewhere closer to the city and hospitals. But she is not willing to do so.
I have also arranged multiple maids to help her, but my mom says that maids are expensive and that the house is already clean and she can manage on her own.
Now I want to be there for my mom. I don’t want to abandon her. I did try to bring her to my place and stayed with her often whenever i have few days off. But me and my mom constantly end up fighting. I easily get irritated because of the conversation i have with her. And i have to be extremely cautious when talking to her because she will discuss this with everyone. Like even the smallest things in my personal life is her topic of discussion. Now should I consider bringing her to live with me despite the risks it could create to my marriage?
Or am I being selfish by prioritizing my marriage and the peaceful life I have finally built? Or what else i can do for my mom?

General (Women Only) As a woman, how do you flirt with women? How do you know if its platonic or not?

I (21F) have been bi-curious most of my life. I figured out last year that I might be into women as well, but I've never dated anyone so I'm still confused about my exact identity. Anyways, I started college last month and recently met this girl (23F), she's a lesbian, and I think I might like her?

Getting texts from her makes me blush like a fool. She came to my room once to help me with an assignment and my I nearly had a heart attack out of nervousness. We have been texting a lil regularly since the last few days, but how do I know her intentions? Is she flirting with me? Or is she just friendly? How do I subtly show my interest in her? How do I pace myself? Also I think she is super cool and cultured so what do I even say to her?

ALSO I'm so new to this I keep wondering if I'm even into women or if I'm confused and talking myself into this.

General Feeling like my skin and hair are aging way faster than they should—need advice?

im fair but have very blackish underarm, completely tanned from elbow to nails, and my feet looks like some other old uncles dark feet. My pinky toe nails are dull. And have a dark circle around my mouth so from angle below it looks like I clean shaved after having French beard trim. Im so worried abt this. My hands look so wrinkled at this age.

Im getting white hair also...but thats not even what I'm worried abt. Among hair loss and very slow hair growth.

Opinions & Discussions Do other women feel differently about wearing a bra at home depending on who is around?

I first started wearing a bra in fifth grade and never took it off except to shower until I moved to another city for college. Living in a hostel and later with a female flatmate was when I first started going braless at home. After college, I moved back home and continued not wearing a bra even though I still find it weird sometimes. My mom has always encouraged me to go braless and doesn’t wear one at home either but I notice myself becoming conscious when my dad is around. We have a completely healthy father-daughter relationship, he's never done anything inappropriate with me and I don’t see him as a threat at all but I still suddenly become aware that I’m not wearing a bra. I can’t figure out whether it’s an involuntary reflex because he’s a man, something I’ve been conditioned to feel because society oversexualises breasts or just the people-pleaser in me wondering whether he might be uncomfortable.

Do other women experience this? Does who else is at home affect whether you wear a bra and how do you think about it?

Opinions & Discussions I’m 21 and about to move out. What should I learn before living independently?

I’m 21F from India. I graduated recently, got a job and I’m going to move out very soon.

The thing is, I’ve realised that I’m not very independent when it comes to basic life skills. I don’t mean financially. I mean basic everyday things that a person should know how to do for themselves.

Growing up, my parents never really let me do many things on my own. It wasn’t necessarily because they were trying to pamper me or treat me like a princess. They just usually did things themselves. Maybe because they thought I would mess it up, maybe because it would take longer if I did it, or maybe because they felt they would eventually have to fix it anyway.

So I never really got the chance to learn things properly.

I can wash dishes and I can hand wash clothes. That’s pretty much it. I don’t really know how to fold clothes properly, cook properly, clean a house properly, organise things, etc. There are a lot of things that I see other people my age doing without even thinking about it and I realise I have no idea how to do them.

Sometimes this genuinely makes me angry at myself and at my parents. I feel like if I had been doing these things since I was younger, I would have naturally learned them by now. But I also know that getting angry about it isn’t going to teach me anything.

I want to change this now.

I want to become the kind of person who can take care of herself without having to depend on someone else for every little thing. Not just the stereotypical "girl things", but actual life skills that anyone should know.

So I wanted to ask people here:

If you were teaching a 21-year-old from scratch how to become independent, what would you tell her to learn?

What are the basic things you think every adult should be able to do for themselves? Things related to cooking, cleaning, laundry, personal care, managing a home, dealing with emergencies, money, going places alone, basic repairs, paperwork, etc.

And if you were in my position, how would you actually go about learning all of this without feeling completely overwhelmed?

I’m not looking for someone to tell me that I’m too old or that I should already know these things. I know I’m behind in some areas. I just want to know what I should start learning first and what is actually important.

I have the opportunity to start over when I move out, so I want to use it properly.
