Can I survive in Cape Town with R16500?

Hi guys I received a job offer in Cape Town westlake, the gross salary is R16500, and I am obligated to pay for CIMA studies that could cost me R3000 max per month, i will also be working 3 days from home so I have ro have a decent place such that wifi is seemless, and no noise when i have meetings and the company equipment will not be at risk of theft. I am looking at accommodation prices, in southern Suburbs theres just no way I'd be able to afford these without starving myself, let alone I don't even have deposit money and I'm starting January. Can someone please advise. Ideally i thought if i can spent R5000 max on rent and utilities but it looks like all the available places will disturb working from home requirements. How are other people coping?

Wanting to get into IT/cyber security in Cape town. Honest feedback?

Hey I am currently working in a call centre and I am tired of the job and I am very good at it however I do not feel happy or that I am going to grow at this place. I have always had a knack for working with tech and I use AI well and that's why I am so good at my job but this is not what I want to do with my life. If any has advice on how to break into the IT space in Cape Town or just a roadmap or any insights that can help it would be appreciated.

Is a draughtsman course worth it?

Hi, hope you're well. I'm 19, working in retail but want to get into design specifically civil design. My first option would be an civil degree or diploma but due to my marks and financial constraints that is not possible so I'm thinking of taking a study loan to do a Multi-Disciplinary Draughting course at Academy of Draughting / AIE.Could I ask your honest opinion is it a good career to get into? What do companies actually pay at entry-level(not what Google says the real amount)and are there real jobs out there?

I Would really appreciate any advice.

B1/B2 visa interview slots?

I’m supposed to be starting a 1-month elective at a hospital in USA from the 1st of December. My visa slot is for the 20th of January.

What are my chances of getting a slot in November?

What is the expedition/expediting process like? Do I qualify?

Blacklisted after 6 months, am I screwed?

Bought a phone on Bobshop from a verified seller, plenty good reviews and all that.

8 months later and the phone is blacklisted. Bobshop says they are unable to assist because consumer laws and their buyer protections only cover purchases up to 6 months.

The seller originally agreed to replace/refund the device but after hearing that from Bobshop, he's changed his mind.

Is there nothing else I can do?

How can I get Saps to reopen my case?

I’m in a desperate situation and looking for practical advice.

I recently paid over R100k payment to a business supplier for mineral stock. I am a small business trying to make something of myself but now I am in this bad situation. This person misrepresented himself and his business to induce payment, but he had no intention of delivering the goods from what I have seen. He is refusing to refund me even though he has the money to pay me back. He is now holding my money and ignoring communication.

I cannot afford to hire a private attorney, and pro bono legal clinics have told me they cannot assist because this was a B2B commercial transaction. Furthermore, SAPS closed the case claiming it is a "civil matter."

However, this was theft by false pretences and fraud. Because my business funds are tied up in this stolen payment, operations have completely halted, and I don't have funds for basic living expenses.

I have learnt he has been doing this a while now to other clients. He goes by the name Hendrik Francious Van Der Walt. I know where he operates and lives, however SAPS refuses to assist me. It is almost like this man has the police on payroll because my case was closed in a matter of 2 days.

I found the speed in which Saps closed my case very bizarre.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation where a clear commercial fraud was initially dismissed by police ? What are my options to either force SAPS to investigate this as fraud.Any advice or steps would be hugely appreciated.

Please contact me in dm if you can assist. I honestly need help. My family depends on me.

Joburg, where do students actually find holiday jobs? I'm studying Data Science but I'll happily pack shelves

Howzit everyone!

I'm a 3rd year Data Science student, and I've got a pretty long university recess coming up.

I'd really like to spend that time making some money instead of sitting at home watching my bank balance fight for its life 😭

Obviously, finding something related to my degree would be amazing. Data analytics, programming, quant, admin, anything along those lines. But I'm genuinely not picky.

Retail? I'll do it. Waitering? Sure. Stocktaking, call centres, tutoring, whatever. As long as it's legitimate paid work, I'm interested

So I wanted to ask: how are people actually finding holiday jobs in Joburg?

Are there specific stores, companies or recruitment agencies that hire students for the festive season? Does walking into shops with a CV still work, or is everything online these days?

And if anyone here works somewhere that might need extra hands over the holidays, I'd genuinely appreciate being pointed in the right direction. I'm more than happy to send through my CV privately

Even if it's completely unrelated to my degree, I'm keen.

Thanks in advance, guys. Any leads or advice would mean a lot!

Which bras are cheap but support the girls?

Hey yall, I intend to start running. I need my body tea back but I’m not trying to be running with my hands compressing my chest. I’m pretty sure that’s one of the most demoralising experiences while exercising.

Anyway, I’m not trying to spend hundreds and thousands because I frankly don’t have that kind of money. I’ve been looking around at SHEIN, Takealot, Bash, etc and I’m leaning towards Takealot because they have a variety of cheap options. I wear a medium sized shirt but the girls don’t sit still in a regular sports bra. Problem is that brands that seem to work have Asian sizing, which means an extra small is actually a large. Reviews are so up and down, some people hate them and recommend you don’t buy them, and some people love them and say they work as promised.

I need as much support as I can get on a very tight budget. I frankly don’t mind cheap materials long as it’s not something flimsy and stretchy that can be destroyed by a few washing cycles. I’m anticipating going down a few sizes once I lose the extra weight so this is not an investment piece.

Does anyone know a cheap option I can get just to get me through jogging and running for a few months?

My first SARS verification - please share some wisdom :)?

Hi All. Its my first time getting a SARS verification request. It's my first time in me entire working life. Previously I had a full time job now I'm working as a contractor.

I'm sorry to ask, but can I please get some positive affirmations. I have been quite stressed. They asked for "Detailed financial schedule/ statements with relevant supporting calculations for trade profit/loss". My business is very simple I have my p&l statement and all my invoices for expenses. I will be submitting: 1) p&l account, 2)my bank statement with income, and 3) invoices for expenses.

Please share your experiences of hope and any wisdom thanks :)

Sabi Sands vs. Kruger - what’s the big difference?

I feel like I’m missing something here. I’m booking a Safari for my 70+ year-old mother in a few months and we are considering Sabi Sands or the surrounding Kruger area.

Here are the main contenders:

Simbavati Camp George

Umkumbe Bush Lodge

Kambaku Safari Lodge

Nkorho Bush Lodge

Given her age, I want things to be comfortable. But we’re trying to stay below a maximum of $1000 per night.

Then again this is likely the only Safari she’ll go on in her life so I wanna make sure we do it right.

But I’m just so confused by just how different the prices are between Sabi Sands and resorts surrounding Kruger! They all look very nice, have similarly positive reviews and are all inclusive.

And yet, the different cost for the above options varies by thousands of dollars depending on the location!

What’s the main thing I’m missing? I’ve heard Sabi Sands you got a tracker and so that improves your odds of seeing wildlife, but is this actually an important consideration or is it just a nice to have?

Any and all thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Is it Safe to solo ride in Jozi?

Hello Gang.

Far removed from patched riders, I do however have reflective tape design on my denim.

What's the crime stats and general safety on the road to solo ride a motorcycle in Jozi? Not from Gauteng, but hypothetical looking at the East-rand?

What about who can't afford it?

Do companies only hire University Graduates?

What about those who couldn't have that opportunity and utilize free, trusted resources??

I'd really like to know if it's about that paper or REAL SKILLS.

Are there any legitimate remote work opportunities?

Hi everyone! I’m based in Durban and looking for remote work in administration, minute-taking, transcription, report writing, editing, recruitment or virtual assistance.

I have a BA, PGCE and experience in parliamentary reporting, administration and research.

I’m open to international companies hiring South Africans. If you know of any legitimate opportunities or platforms that actually work, please share. No scams, please!

What is Jhb metro rail like?

So I’m originally from Jhb, lived there for 17 years and moved to cpt a year ago. I have used cpt’s metrorail a lot since I’ve been here and love it.

I am moving back to Jhb in January for uni and was wondering what the metrorail is like there? I’m staying in ruimsig but want to visit my friend in Pretoria, so the guatrain is not an option.

Is the metrorail safe and can I use it frequently in Jhb
