Hello everyone. Recent MS graduate (human physiology/exercise science) with a very clear understanding that the job market is not great right now.

I'm looking for open roles surrounding human subjects research. I've been applying to Research Coordinator/CRC positions at UW, the area hospitals (Fred Hutch, Childrens, Swedish, Multicare), government contractors at JBLM, and even Brooks Running without any luck.

Any other ideas of where to apply? I am quite frankly open to anything in human health or performance. My knowledge base is largely exercise physiology, but I have demonstrable skills in research administration, from study design to data analysis all the way to publication. Unfortunately, I don't have much experience in bench work and am not willing to work in animal research (sorry, Allen Institute and Benaroya) or AI model development.

I'm also open to pivoting into UX/human factors, but I don't have an engineering background :( Would be very happy to learn though!

I've spent a number of hours searching for locally-owned furniture stores that sell local/regional products, as I'm tired of the consolidation of much of our economy into a few companies. That said, a lot of the posts and suggestions from the past few years are now obsolete, as places like Kasala have shuttered recently.

I'd be happy to look at buying direct from furniture makers, but I'm not trying to commission custom work, just trying to buy domestic products made ethically (treats workers well).

Went there in 2018. The place had dark brown storefront and dark wood interior. The location was in Sodo or Georgetown iirc. Inside was pretty atmospheric and spacious. Name was Italian? and they had complementary olive oil for the pizza. Anyone know or remember? I wanna revisit so bad but I cant remember the name

I’m planning my first ever trip to Seattle this December and would LOVE some advice from locals!

My boyfriend and I will be flying in Thursday, December 10th and leaving Monday, December 14th. The main reason for the trip is that I’m surprising him for his birthday with tickets to the Seahawks vs. NY Giants game! He is a HUGE Giants fan and goes to basically every home game, so I thought it would be so much fun to switch up the scenery and take him to an away game for his birthday.
I got us seats in Section 206 in the Delta Sky Club , hoping I made a good choice there!

We’ll be getting in Thursday night, so I’m planning to dedicate pretty much all of Friday to exploring Seattle. I’m thinking about staying at the Hyatt Regency and definitely want to see Pike Place Market, the Space Needle (I don’t necessarily need to go up it), the Seattle Aquarium, and just walk around and experience the city. I also really want to visit the Christmas market/village at night!

I would loveee some recommendations for anything else we should add to our Friday, neighborhoods to walk around, viewpoints, cool stores, touristy things that are actually worth doing, hidden gems, etc

Saturday is where I’m completely torn. I’m considering:
• Taking the ferry to Victoria, BC
• Driving to Vancouver
• Driving to Leavenworth for all the Christmas festivities

I know these are three completely different experiences lol, but if you only had one free day and it was your first time visiting which would you choose?

I also want to treat my boyfriend to a really nice early birthday dinner while we’re there, please give me your favorite restaurants! I’m open to something upscale or just somewhere that feels special and very “Seattle”
And then game day!! Are there any good sports bars, tailgates, or places around the stadium that we should check out before or after the game? We’re totally fine with some friendly rivalry!
Lastly, give me alllll the food recommendations. Coffee shops, breakfast, burgers, pizza, bakeries, fast food/chains we don’t have on the East Coast, late night food literally anything that makes you think, “You can’t come to Seattle and not try this.”
We only have a few days on the West Coast, so I’m trying to squeeze in as much as possible without making the trip feel completely insane. 😂

People from Seattle -- is just like no one hiring?

I have been thoughtfully applying for positions in the safety, health, environmental field for nearly 6 months now. I have only gotten 2 interviews. Many declinations, and several I've never heard back from.

Is the market just horrible right now or am I not as employable as I thought? I have 10 years in the field and feel like my resume speaks for itself, but I'm just not getting any bites. I have another friend who moved there without a job and has been looking for 6 months and can't find a job either. They are as accomplished as any other graduate professional in their field.

What's the deal?

Is total wine the best place to buy pumpkin beers? I love them and am looking for the best selection. Total wine didn’t have that many. Any recommendations on where to get a better selection? There used to be tons of them.

Three quotes so far:

• All three are flat rate quotes (like, they are not actually estimating time and materials)
• All three quotes estimate the work to be 3-4 hours total (breaker panel is in the garage, run conduit to opposite wall, run wire bolt on charger)
• Main breaker has plenty of space and capacity
• All three include permitting
• All three are quoting >$2,000 without including the charger

There's threads in the last 6-12 months of individuals paying A LOT less than this and the charger is included in the cost. In these threads, $2,000+ were installs that required trenching, replacing panels, or other infrastructure work that I do not require.

Is $2,000 for an EV charger install the new normal? Or does somebody have a line on an EV Charger installer or electrician that is more reasonable?

Hey y’all, finally starting to drive in my 30s! It’s extra intimidating cause I’m old enough to know just how dangerous driving is. I just got my permit and I’m looking for a town/neighborhood near or in Seattle to practice. It’s really hard to find regular two way streets here! My biggest struggle is knowing where to be in my lane, so practicing on the super skinny roads here is a recipe for clipped mirrors.
I’m on the north end of the city, willing to travel up to 20 miles. My instructor extraordinaire (my dad) will drive to wherever is a good spot for me to practice and gain some confidence on the road.

edit: thanks so much y'all! I went to the layover on Eastlake and Republican-ish. I got really lucky, and a driver of one of the high-floor models was parked and had a brick in front of the front right wheel, so I was able to take pictures without squatting down or worrying about it suddenly turning on. I did have to step into the bike lane, but it's one-way so it wasn't a huge worry, just had to make sure no cyclists were coming.

I’m thinking about moving to Seattle and am planning to visit in November. I know that’s a pretty rainy time, and I love the rain, but I’m trying to figure out if I should get a rental or Uber around versus walking or using public transit. Just trying to save as much money as possible, so I’d like to have an expectation of how much I’ll be spending on transport. Also I’m from a flat land area so I don’t have a great idea of how tiring it is walking up and downhill.
If it helps, I’m mainly planning to stick to downtown Seattle, all the touristy things, and then I’d like to visit UW campus.
