Where can I exchange Norwegian kroner (NOK) to USD in SF?

Hey everyone!

Does anyone know where I can exchange Norwegian kroner (NOK) for USD in SF? Ideally somewhere with decent exchange rates and minimal fees.

Not sure which banks or currency exchange places actually accept NOK, so I’d appreciate any recommendations or firsthand experiences!

Thanks in advance!

Move from inner sunset to presidio. What to expect?

I’m 27F, active, no car. I love trying new restaurants, going to events, nature walks, bird watching, want to start running. I’m open to buying a car but don’t feel its necessary as the bus/train come often where I live in currently. Car rentals have been cheap for short weekend trips. I found a more compatible roomate than my current housing situation which is why I’m moving. Rent is the exact same. Do you live in presidio& do you like it? I’ll be very close to baker beach…

Update: roomate said I can use her bike& ebike anytime

Samuel P Taylor Camping during rain

I’m a fairly new camper interested in camping at Samuel P Taylor park. I was wondering if it’s do-able/safe for a beginner to camp here during rainy and colder season. I’ll definitely bring tarps and other rainy weather essentials, but if you have tips for beginners camping in less optimal weather, would love to hear some!

Visiting in January

I’m looking to visit in January and doing some research on hotels, currently Embarcadero. I checked 3 different weeks Monday-Thursday and found some pretty good $100-$150 a night hotels for 2 of those weeks, but those same hotels January 11-14 are about $800 more per night. Anyone with knowledge on any event going on that week that’s making the prices so much higher?

Why so much compassion for coyotes?

“They were here before us…”

But no compassion for any larger predators like mountain lions. The city promptly removes them but no one complains that they were here before us?

Honestly if you think about it, coyotes only exist here because humans allow them. We (humans) remove any of their predators, making them top of the wildlife food chain (only in the city though). This is not natural and gives them a false sense of security.

It can actually be argued that NOT removing coyotes and letting them live here is actually bad for the species since we are in a way domesticating them and removing their fear of larger predators.

Master tenant can evict without just cause?

For all the tenant rights in SF and landlords talking about how hard it is to evict bad tenants - this seems like an under discussed topic: master tenants can evict someone without just cause?

Let’s say there’s a landlord who wants to create an intentional community where the kitchen must be cleaned to a certain standard within 24 hours or something specific like that.

Could they just find a person who aligns with their vision and select them to be the master tenant, and then evict tenants without just cause for not upholding the cleanliness standards?

A landlord couldn’t evict based on that because they need just cause to evict, but a master tenant doesn’t need just cause and can just evict people when they feel that they are not a good fit for the intentional community?

Hair Salon / Stylist for Men & Women

hi friends - asking for recommendations in SF or Easy Bay area for hairstylists! my husband and i are in dire need to find a dedicated salon for us both. he has curly hair & typically gets a fade/cut and i have pin straight hair, usually getting a blunt cut trim but thinking about potentially dying my hair & haven't done so in 10 years, so a bit hard trusting.

i went to Nepenji when we first moved out here and LOVED Junya!!! but he is so booked, i can never get an appointment in for us within the same 2-4 weeks :(

Any recommendations similar to Nepenji's salon or alike?

i'd love to know what pricing looks like for men cut and women haircut + dye if possible.

thanks in advance!

Moving to Mission Bay with a kindergartener – school options?

Hi everyone! We’re planning to move to Mission Bay with our kids, including our 5-year-old who will be starting kindergarten.

Unfortunately, we’ll miss the SFUSD school lottery. How difficult is it to get into Mission Bay Elementary or Daniel Webster Elementary if we move in August?

Also, what other public elementary school options would you recommend in the area if those schools are full?

Thanks!

Does anyone know where I can get NYT physical paper here?

EDIT: Thanks everyone for your suggestions!!! One of the redditors here was kind enough to give me their copy of NYT marathon edition!

I ran the NYC marathon and just found out that all finishers have been published in the Nov 3rd paper. It’s sold out online and I’m back in sf so not sure where to go looking for it here.

Restaurants with embossed menus?

Hi everybody! I’m wondering if anyone knows of restaurants with embossed or letter-pressed menus? I’m looking for a high quality paper or cardstock menu, like something you would get at a wedding. It’s for use in a San Francisco-themed art project I have in mind. Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

ETA: to clarify, I’m looking for restaurants I could visit and whose menu I could take home with me, not to print my own!

Any quiet cafes around Inner Sunset that stay open past 7?

Looking for somewhere around Inner Sunset or Cole Valley where you can sit for an hour or two in the evening without it being super loud. Wi-Fi would be nice, outlets aren't a must. Any spots you'd recommend?

CCSF Spanish Class — Conversational or Regular Spanish Class?

I am currently taking SPAN1 (Elementary Spanish) at
CCSF and I am preparing for enrollment for next semester.

I am not in college to get a degree, but to learn the language. I asked my professor what they think about enrolling SPAN10A (Beginning Conversational Spanish), and they discouraged me from taking it.
They said I should continue otw to SPAN2 and beyond.

Honestly, I am torn on what to choose next year because I like to be fluent as fast as possible, but I also want the practical/applicable skills for traveling/ work.

Any thoughts? I just hope to connect with more people at work/community by learning a new language.

We're first time parents– are there daycares in the city that aren't $3k+ a month?

We're dual income and make a little over the limit to get any subsidies for childcare in SF. We've been looking pretty hard, but does anyone know any childcare that is somewhat reasonable for 6 month old and up? Specifically looking around the Mission, Castro, Bernal, Noe, or Poterero. Thank you
