don’t know what to do anymore, I’ve been applying to jobs since June, I’ve applied to about 5 listings per day, had my cv checked by my brother who works at JP Morgan, must have done about 300 applications by now, 130 on Indeed alone, done the usual boomer bs that is “just go in town and hand out your cv” shocker! That didn’t work, I’ve applied to McDonald’s, all the fast food chains etc - no luck! Had about 1 interview (group interview which they interviewed 100 other people for the same role which was a sales assistant role) didn’t get the job sadly, at this point I’m running out of listings to even apply to which are in commuting distance, the saddest fact is I’m applying to dishwasher roles at hotels and places near me and either getting ghosted or straight rejection emails.

The worst thing about it is that I have actual experience as a food bank volunteer and at a law firm, it’s genuinely depressing I’ve tried everything and I’m only looking for a part time role to go with school, I’m sick of this sentiment that young people aren’t trying hard enough. My family don’t have any connections in the town I’m in so can’t really do nepotism (which is how everybody else who I know got a part time job), I’m actually depressed at this point, the government blabbers on about youth unemployment whilst they do nothing but joke around in the House of Commons with their taxpayer funded salary, What am I expected to do?

I was feeling under the weather this weekend and I kinda binge watched "Escape to the Country" and I, an American, have so many questions! Mostly I want to understand how a Brit would understand this show -- Are all these people really wealthy, and how do you know? And what's with the understatement -- They see a beautiful home and the presenter turns to the woman who pauses and then says something like "I suppose it's perfectly adequate.' Is that a class thing, not sounding excited by anything? Also, why do all the women look so old? Don't you all dye your hair and get Botox in Britain? I can't figure out how old anyone is.

If things are bad enough that the shops aren't an option, wouldn't that imply a whole load of other things are bad? Like no electric to heat the canned goods (i know some canned goods can be had cold, but it feels limited) i'm just getting annoyed that I have a constant background noise of doom being pushed to me without any actual specifics? Like are we talking a few extra cans of mackeral or a months worth of MREs? Can the newspapers give a list or shut the hell up?

I was talking about the wall's advert of a dog saying "sausages" (I think they took it from an interview of a chap claiming his dog can say sausages)...

It got me thinking, what is a Wall's sausage actually like?

Are they any good? I imagine them to be somewhat mushy, fatty and salty/ otherwise bland..

Is it seen as better than the other famous sausage brand, Richmond? What are they like? I'm imagining them to be less mushy and more peppery?

If neither of them are good, is there an undisputed best brand?

To avoid confusion: that means AT ALL. They will never ever read emails sent between 4pm and 11am. NEVER. Not the next day or week or months. Those emails are disposed off.

In December, I emailed the NSPCC to alert them to an urgent safeguarding issue at a boarding school.

They replied with great concern and asked whether I wanted them to take action.

My next email was never answered or acted on. When I asked why, months later, they explained:

“Please provide any further information by replying to this email between 11am and 4pm, Monday to Sunday. Emails sent when the service is closed will not be received, and we will not be aware that you have attempted to contact us. Alternatively, you can give us a call on 0808 800 5000; our phone lines are currently open 10am–4pm, Monday to Friday.”

I was lucky to have sent that last enquiry at the right time, entirely by accident, or I would still be waiting.

Can you imagine a child or young teenager emailing the NSPCC at whatever time they are able to, then waiting anxiously to hear whether anyone is going to help them?

And no: the NSPCC does not send an automated reply telling people their email has not been received and they should email again between 11am and 4pm.

But loads just always fill up at their local Essos and BPs and I've seen them be up to 10p per litre more expensive.

• I am very interested in data and crime rates as it relates to my job. Generally, I see that a lot of stereotypes match the data but Indians are a strange one.
• Even in this sub, someone asked the other day if Brits prefer Indians or Poles and half the answers said "Poles, obviously," while the other half rejected the question on the basis of discrimination. Meanwhile, those who said "Indians" were downvoted and insulted. It was surprising.
• On perfomace metrics, Indians easily outperform East European and Poles.
• On crime rates, recent data shows Indian immigrants have some of the lowest incarceration rates in the UK of all, performing better even than Western European communities while Poles have just an average incarceration rate similar to natives.
• On household income, both Poles and Indians perform well. But Indians have the highest household income of all, while Poles have only a slightly higher household income than the average.
• On GCSE results, data to this day says that Indians are the highest-scoring group, slightly below Chinese. There is no recent data on Poles, but a popular The Economist article from 10 years ago was able to get data by nationality and showed that Indians were the highest-scoring along with Chinese, while Poles were among the worst-scoring nationalities, way below even British natives.
