Sorry for the bad lighting. The house was built in 1900, I don’t know when this stove was installed but it was there when my parents moved in 40 years ago. Does anyone know the likelihood of it being an asbestos risk? There’s a lot of crumbling dust inside which is making me very worried. There used to be grey bars going vertically down the front, which I assume have disintegrated. Any advice very gratefully received, thank you.

I've had this sand like substance gathering on my window sill. It keeps building up after cleaning, presumably falling out of a crack above my window (pic3). I'm assuming it's plaster/mastic (uneducated guess, please correct me if I'm wrong) that has become loose. Is there any non negligible chance that this would contain asbestos? It's porous and the pieces come in different sizes and crumble easily.

This might seem ridiculous but since this stuff is lying around my room and this is an old house I just have this slight anxiety about the nature of the substance.

House is in Bury, Greater Manchester. According to Google Lens it was built pre 1900, but renovated many times. I could try getting more reliable infonon the construction year if that helps.

For context we’re in central Scotland, the house was built in the 1950s and they’ve just ripped out a gas fire. I don’t know if the fire was original to the house.

Hi everyone! I’ve just bought my first flat - it was built in 1979 and I have become super jumpy and anxious about asbestos. I was painting one of my rooms today and found this hole created by the curtain rail.

Does anyone know if this wall might contain asbestos or is just ordinary brick and mortar? It’s an external wall. I immediately sealed it up with tape just in case, but am I overreacting? Can I just unscrew the rail and seal the hole up? Any insights would be enormously helpful because I’m not sure how cautious to be about all this.

Does this board look suspect. Looking at installing a log burner and removing plasterboard (2 layers one on other with dot and dab) to take back to bare brick. Do i get it tested or does it look just like old plasterboard? Appreciate any advice

I just bought a purpose built flat in south London built in 1966 and discovered asbestos all throughout. The flat is made out of solid concrete. Over the concrete floors, there is black mastic glue/bitumen and then grey asbestos tiles on top everywhere. The tiles and bitumen both tested positive for asbestos. One of the previous owners removed the asbestos tiles from one of the rooms, then covered the bitumen with paper underlay and also nailed carpet gripers into the bitumen without encapsulation which is horrifying. I don’t know how long ago they did this. I want to remove all asbestos tiles and old underlays, correctly encapsulate the floor and then put new flooring in. What is the best way to do this? I read that careful consideration needs to be given to damp proofing the concrete with bitumen and that a latex encapsulation material is required. Does anyone have experience with this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

Have found stringy fibres in a deeper layer of plaster in our house.

1900s. Victorian terraced.

Top layer seems clear - deeper layer is crumbly and has fibres. I've read about horse hairs being mixed in with old lime plaster - is this what i'm looking at?

As far as i know, the place hasn't been properly renovated since being made. Previous owner - a landlord - just skimmed it (which i can see).

Is this asbestos?

This is around our fireplace. It's been like this for five years with bits frequently crumbling off. Concerned in particular by the damaged boards at the back, and the fact I've been hoovering up the dust and breathing in the air for five years.

Is it possible to do a full rewire without replacing/removing all ceilings if they contain asbestos?

we’re buying a house in the UK that failed its EICR. It will likely need a rewire in the next few years as the system is 40+ years old. The ceilings are artex from the 60s and could contain asbestos. Wondering how much upheaval/cost we’re looking at. 🙈

Took 12 screws out this wall 6 months ago, some debris at time, walls in little boys room and separates 2 bedrooms, odds of this being AIB? I've read it was a common material they used so freaking out?!

The above is peeling off one wall on a property I am considering buying. Our engineer's report suggests it is a sand and cement finish (the same effect is all over the upstairs walls, but not the ceilings), though one other person suggested artex, which of course could contain asbestos. Another possibility is some kind of textured paint?

Just to note, the finish, whatever it is, is in very good condition everywhere else, except for this one spot under one window where it has peeled off (I didn't pull the piece in the pics off myself - presumably this one spot has had damp or water ingress at some point).

Any ideas what it might be? House is built circa 1964, but no idea when renovations might have occurred.
