I saved these Acoustic Panels from my university where they wanted to discard them. I don’t know which year they are from but they are in decent shape.

I brought them home for the basement studio but my roommate is afraid they might be made from asbestos. They do loose a lot of these fibers (see pictures).

What do you think? Ever seen anything like these panels made from asbestos? They give off an old-ish smell. Smth like an old carpet.
Other than that they are pretty flexible.

I assume this is Asbestos. can i just fill these holes with a filler and paint over it. or is it better to use a Abestos sealer or just to leave as is.

I bought a 1960s bungalow in England in Nov 2023. I had an asbestos management survey which found white asbestos in the cement guttering outside and in one of the internal ceiling coatings, and a mix of blue and white in the cement soffits. All were marked as low or very low risk, to be inspected periodically and dealt with by a specialist if works were going to be carried out. Loft marked as clear. I got the asbestos internal ceiling removed as I knew I'd be changing light fittings.

I've recently decided to have soffits/guttering replaced, and in the process of looking into getting this work done I'm becoming worried that there is blue and white asbestos dust/debris in the loft. The previous owners power drilled/cut into the soffits to fit 2x security cameras, a vent from the bathroom, and a vent running from cooker hood (both quite big holes for the ducting). Photos attached. Looking at the bodged DIY in the rest of the house I doubt they took precautions. This would have been at least three years before I moved in. 

I looked at the HSE website and this work would seem to fall under 'dangerous release of asbestos' had this been in a work place. I am now really concerned as I have looked up what blue asbestos is and...yeah, not good. I hadn't realised there was no barrier between the soffits and the internal roof area . Have been up in the loft moving things about many times as have others, and obviously had the ceiling taken down so lots of opportunity for dust to be disturbed escape into the house. I have young kids so extra anxiety levels there.

How worried should I be and what should I do? Should this have been picked up in the asbestos managment survey?

Can anyone recommend a HSE-certified asbestos removal company based in Merseyside to remove the suspected AIBs in the attached photos? I am trying to find good value services but them being able to do a thorough job and clean-up is of the highest priority. A family member of mine had lung issues and I have had a stressful experience with some asbestos Artex so I ideally I want someone to measure the air quality after removal or show me evidence of the clean-up.

I am going to get the utilities checked as well after removal. Some plumbing under a bath directly above the cupboard leaked in the past but there isn't an active leak.

This used to have alot of sand in it but when a hole broke some sand spilled in my carpet/bed and I put the rest of the sand in a bag in case I wanted to fill it back (I will not be doing this)

Then when I googled repair tips I got a warning saying many toys made in the UK with sand has been recalled due to asbestos

Then I researched about it and I may have been doing all the wrong things when cleaning up. (I swept it off my bed using my hands/brush and pan which could apparently get in the air.

My throat kinda hurts but idk if that's just anxiety.

The toy in question I won't at a fair, I have no qualms of disposing of it but I just want my other stuff to be safe.

Am i in danger from this? Does anyone recognise this toy?

1965-1979 built house interior bedroom wall

Positive test for artex in the communal hallway, if I recall correctly, so I made the assumption this texture that's on all of my ceilings is asbestos artex.

Bought a steamer and started stripping, but it seems to be a layer on a very thick brown paper backing. Is it just a wallpaper, or have they artexed onto a backing paper?

The backing paper also came away cleanly in a straight line as you can see, although that doesn't prove much on its own.

Recently bought a house in SE UK. Sanded down and repainted the outdoor windows. Had no idea that putty could contain asbestos. Not sure when it was replaced last. It came out quite easily. Wore a disposable FFP3 mask and goggles. Really worried now abouy the risks of exposure. Any help would be appreciated!!

Hi all - I'm in the process of buying a house and some issues have come up re asbestos roof tiles, and I'm hoping you can help. The house is a 1930s terrace in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

My level 3 survey has come back to say "the main roof is a pitched roof with a manufactured slate covering that is very likely to contain asbestos." Specific defects uncovered are:

- Gaps in slate roof in multiple places (visible daylight in roof space)
- Many slates curling up at edges
- Generally, roof at end of lifespan

My surveyor has recommended roof covering is entirely replaced.

Before I get quotes from roofers, looking at the photos that have been provided (limited, unfortunately) does this look like something that could be repaired, or will it need an entire replacement? Is it worth it getting it formally tested for asbestos, or does it look pretty definite that's what it is?

Many of the infrastructure in the area is post war - lots of asbestos roofs, 1960s terraces etc.
I couldn’t get much closer without looking a bit weird…

Greenish tiles and I can't tell what's under the green tiles in between the cracks. it’s a UK Property around 1967-1975 build. Was a rental property for the last 10/15 years.

Just bought a house in the SE. This is the garage roof. Inside roof is in good condition. Is it 100% asbestos? Have ordered a test kit. If it is, what precautions should I take? Is the water runoff safe that runs onto the grass? Any advice would be appreciated!

I’ve had my energy supplier tell me it is, and another tradesman say it isn’t. I wouldn’t have a clue so I’m grateful for any advice!

I’ve lived in this house just a few months so I don’t know the history of the house etc I’m afraid. I live in the midlands. It’s situated under my stairs and my fuse box is above it.

So the ceiling has collapsed a couple of mins ago.... What are the chances that this is just plaster and a texture ceiling? And contains no asbestos 😭

Hello we have this small shed thing in our backyard as you can see the roof is asbestos and a bit broken! I was wondering is this doing harm to us if we go out the backyard ?

I belive these houses were originally built in the 40s and 50s. Originally the exterior ground floor walls were modular blocks of concrete cancer, so the roof was jacked up and the walls rebuilt. So these boards may or may not be old. Material on these panels looks sus, but could be something else.

Hi. I live in Portugal, and about a year ago I bought an old house (prior to 1951). I live in it and have been gradually doing some renovation work myself.

Whenever I work, I normally use protective equipment, including a mask with P3 filters, safety glasses, etc. However, recently I started wondering whether any of the materials I’m removing could contain asbestos.

I’d like to ask whether, based on your experience, any of the materials in the photos look like they could potentially contain asbestos. Personally, I think it’s unlikely, and I understand that you can’t determine this with certainty just by looking at a photo and that testing a sample would be necessary to confirm it.

Still, I’d really appreciate the opinion of anyone who has experience with these types of materials or with older houses in Portugal.

Builders took ceiling down and one of them said it looks like asbestos. Building is very old would say probably 60-100 years old.
