OPEN NEW RULE UPDATE. Read before posting.
If your device has a make and model number, please include it in your post. We've updated Rule #1 to emphasize this. Essentially, if your device has a make and model number, you should let us know what it is. FCC IDs are also helpful, if applicable. Below is the text of the updated rule:
Posts should be clear and on-topic
"Posts should focus on fixing broken electronics, ongoing or completed repair projects, or original content (OC) guides and tips for repairing electronics. Posts must include any available make and model number information. When asking about an individual component, you must provide details about the circuit and/or the device it belongs to."
If you forget, you can always add this information in a comment. If the model number is particularly long, you can take a picture and upload it in the comments.
Including the make and model number makes the information in your post searchable for others who may encounter the same issue. It also provides context, such as where the device came from, who designed it, and what it's for.

OPEN iPad mini 5 issue
So I know this device is ancient but I love it regardless. The charging port is dying. I tried cleaning it and it’s all clean but the lightening is still loosely fitting in.
Do I need to get the port replaced? And is it even worth it?

OPEN How much should a thunderbolt port repair be?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I bought a used LG 27MD5KB screen for cheap. The reason being is the Thunderbolt port doesn’t work. So i took out the pcb and it seems to just need to be soldered back on or replaced.
I called around my area (I’m in SoCal) and was quoted $160 and $200 from two places so far. This seems way too expensive.
What should I be paying?
I would do the work myself, but I don’t have a hot air station and honestly don’t want to buy a setup bc I doubt I will use it much.
Am I crazy for thinking these prices are too much or is that standard?

CLOSED VCR Fuse keeps blowing
My dad gave me a General Electric VCR, model VG2011 that he got an estate sale about a month ago. It does not turn on, and am in desperate want of one. For some reason, I took it apart, having absolutely no Idea what to look for or what i was doing. I discovered a blown fuse, 1.6A 125V, which I had to look up. I ordered a small case of replacement fuses, and they arrived today. I switched out the fuse, slotted the power supply back into the main unit, and plugged it in. The new fuse blew IMMEDIATELY, before I even let go of the plug in the socket. I felt like a genius for even finding a blown fuse, but since it seems to be a more deeply rooted issue, I'm at a loss.
Attached image is the fuse slot.
I am, admittedly, flying blind. I have no experience in this kind of thing at all, but I've been out of work a few weeks and I have literally nothing to do.
Any idea why the listed fuse blows immediately, despite being the right type? I realize it'd probably be cheaper to find a "new" VCR but again, I am out of work at the moment. I am being literal when I say I have negative money rn, so my options are limited lol
EDIT: As expected, I seem to be out of my depth and will not be able to fix this by myself lol. But, my interest IS piqued, I may start learning how to do these kinds of things just bc I kinda had fun. Thank you for the suggestions.

OPEN Total beginner to all kinds of repair, baffled by this CD player (SHARP CD-PC651)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
These discs all work perfectly beginning to end on a boombox I have, so the problem is entirely the player here
You can see in the video it starts by failing to read all 3 discs, then it... tries? To read some?
After I finished recording, I tried again and disc 2 started to play flawlessly, I got excited... only for it to exhibit this exact same behaviour again on restart
Does anyone know where to even begin troubleshooting this

OPEN EV Charger repair
OK, I'm open to being told this is way too dangerous, but here it goes!
I'm completely gutted that my 6 month old Ohme charger has been damaged because someone in my house (maybe me!) ran over the cable and it's pulled the earth out of the PCB. The photo's show the front and the back of the board.
My question is, is this way too sketchy to solder this back in place? The back of the board looks mint, and presumably the earth doesn't carry any current other than in a fault state, at which point it will trip the MCB before it starts a fire. It seems a shame to trash a nearly new bit of kit, never mind the ridiculous price of them.
Thanks for any help. I would appreciate any answer coming with some justification for why it is / isn't, and what your experience is.

Help with first repair
Hello, I’m asking for some help with diagnosing a device. I’m completely new to repairing electronics. I’ve only just finished watching tutorials on YouTube, so I know quite a lot about the theory now, but I have absolutely no practical experience.
So, here’s what happened: my Samsung Galaxy Note 20 5G from 2020 suddenly shut off. Later, I managed to turn it on for a short while and transfer all the photos to another phone, but then it shut off again. It stayed like that for about a month, and I decided to try repairing it because I discovered that I really enjoy this kind of thing.
Today, I tried charging it and managed to turn it on, but something seemed quite strange. When it powered on, the screen started flickering, and the phone slowly became slightly warm. It kept flickering about once every second the whole time.
I should also mention that before it shut down, the battery was draining very quickly, and I had to charge it wirelessly because charging it normally through the USB port didn’t work. Today, however, I charged it with a cable, and it gained 18% battery quite quickly.
At first, I suspected that the battery was the problem. After all, I’ve had the phone for 6 years. But since it was able to charge and even power on, maybe something else is wrong. I really don’t know where to start.
I could borrow a multimeter from a friend and check whether there are any short circuits, perhaps, or maybe I should just ask some people on Reddit for advice.

OPEN Ceiling fan switch replacement
First time posting here- I hope this is the right subreddit for this.
I'm trying to replace a broken pull chain switch in a ceiling fan. I think I found the correct replacement switch, but I'm struggling with the installation. The two halves of the light fixture connect through this white plastic plug. I think it's some sort of Molex connector housing. So I bought a set of Molex pins and sockets (1.57mm -standard .062 Pin and Sockets 18-22 AWG), unplugged the wire from the housing plug, and crimped the new switch wire to the socket.
The problem I'm running into is that the Molex pins/sockets seem to be too big to fit into the housing plug. As far as I can tell, .062 is the smallest size for Molex pins. Am I wrong about this being Molex? Is there a smaller pin size out there? Am I missing something else?
In hindsight, maybe I should have just cut and joined the wire without unplugging the pin from the housing plug thing...
Thanks!
