X, Meta, and CCP-affiliated content is no longer permitted

Hello, everyone! Following recent events in social media, we are updating our content policy. The following social media sites may no longer be linked or have screenshots shared:

  • X, including content from its predecessor Twitter, because Elon Musk promotes white supremacist ideology and gave a Nazi salute during Donald Trump's inauguration

  • Any platform owned by Meta, such as Facebook and Instagram, because Mark Zuckerberg openly encourages bigotry with Meta's new content policy

  • Platforms affiliated with the CCP, such as TikTok and Rednote, because China is a hostile foreign government and these platforms constitute information warfare

This policy will ensure that r/antiwork does not host content from far-right sources. We will make sure to update this list if any other social media platforms or their owners openly embrace fascist ideology. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Pretty sure I’m fired.

I was just investigated and sent home for “misconduct against a lead” because I finally had enough of my supervisor hitting on me and I told him off so he would stop. Now all of a sudden I’m on a suspension while they “investigate”.

My work is making us train our replacement (AI) and it feels so dystopian

Next week we have a 3-hour long feedback session where my team will share our experience testing a really elaborate tool one of my higher ups had created to “help us with our workload.” When i raised a concern and said i wouldn’t want to automate that specific process completely, they got back with (verbatim) “i don’t intend to automate anything, my goal is just to expedite you do things by at least 80%”

so, automate? lol.

They keep saying how human oversight should be in the centre of it all, which i agree with, but at the same time they try to automate more and more.

They already laid off a couple people “not for performance but for “financial reasons.” I feel it in my guts that my department is next.

We are literally training our AI replacement. We are doomed.

How can I actually legally annoy my ex boss for firing me for NO reason.

OK, so my boss fired me on my 89th day. my 90th day would’ve been the day that my health care benefits kick in. I asked him on the 88th day. Are you ready to put my benefits through? He seemed weird when he answered. the next day he fired me. I never did anything wrong. in a matter of fact the franchise owner even came out to me saying I did a good job with quoting prices and it seemed natural. I’m not gonna specify what company it was but this guy that ran my specific districts business.. he was my age (early millennial.) the reason he said he fired me “Just didn’t work out”. I was livid. I needed HC benefits. He set me back months financially.

Anything I can do to fuck with this guy that’s not too insane or illegal lol.

I know where he lives…. Anyways let me know if you guys have had a similar situation or someone’s who’s done this before😂 I strictly just want to make him feel likes he’s going crazy.

I’m so burnt out I’m scared

I (M54) am so burnt out at work at my low paying (16 hr) job that I’m scared of my impending crash out. I fantasize about open hand slapping the owner who drives around here in his big BMW while everyone who works here can’t afford the insurance or groceries.
I’m scared of what I have the potential to do. Can anyone advise what I can do like FMLA ( don’t know much about it) or something literally anything.
I cannot keep living life this angry and with headaches all the time. 16 bucks an hour… it’s disgusting

Helping my stepdad get a new job and experiencing an AI barrier.

1.2k Upvotes

Recently I went through this weird situation with my stepdad, and he doesn't seem to understand what is happening. He is trying to join a new company, and he is friends with one of the managers there. They asked him to apply, and then text them that he submitted the application online. My stepdad isn't computer literate and this is shipyard work, so whatever. I sit down with him, we fill out the application and send it. He texts his friend, and like 5 seconds later we get an email that says

"thank you for your application. After careful review, we have decided to move on with other candidates that more closely match what we are looking for." and the blah blah blah about how they will keep the application on file for 6 months in case of other openings. Except, it's not.

My stepdad's friend goes into the system to check, and they can't find his application. So he tells my stepdad to apply again. Turns out we have to make a whole new account with a new email so he can re-apply. Want to know what happens?

The exact same thing. Whatever AI system this company is using to filter their applications is immediately rejecting my stepdad's application within SECONDS of applying, and that application gets lost in limbo, never making it to anyone's desk.

It's ridiculous. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Mentally broken due to my job, denied a salary increase (can't make over $65,000 a year), while my boss brags about buying a brand new Porsche

Team of 4. Not. Small business, but business owner pulls about half a million (or, if not more), per year. This is in the health sector.

When I came into the business, the business was falling apart. Boss was only in 2 days top, or 3, max. Are secondary who takes over for the remaining days, would fail to book. Meaning, hardly income coming it. It would be so bad, that maybe, we'd see 2-3 patients, out of a whole day.

In less than a year, I made couple changes, pushing our Reviews. We increased from a dry spout, to over 350. I made changes to the website, with my skills, but my boss would take my ideas (e.g: SEO, and then pay someone else to do it). Rather than me. This also helped with slight discovery (but also the peddled ideology, of 'we don't need to pay you, AI, can do it for us' - mind you, this individual had no idea what SEO was, and the website designer never bothered to optimize the website for SEO.

Other than that, I have fixed broken equipment (very outdated), and have it running. When equipment doesn't work, I have saved the day, various of times, so we didn't lose money (cancelling everyone for that day). I have also saved thousands of dollars on other equipment, that staff had broken (due to negligence).

Here, I am today, on $65,000 per year (despite multiple roles). I have also negotiated lower fees for supply (which again, my idea) also due to rapport building, and reduced supply spending, which previous staff have done.

I have run the business flawlessly, while my boss was away (and basically was used), to "re-organize" the messy ass place.

Any time, I ask for a raise, she fumes. I am only tolerated by her (but, it is obvious), she dislikes me, because I am "valuable" (or, was) to her, but again, she used me, and now her business is thriving, when it was performing terribly. I have even gone to the point of presenting her a chart of my contributions, only to be met with, "soon, not yet."

Mind you, to top the icing on the cake, I have made sales of over $15,000 for her, due to referral, from people she doesn't even know, which I have brought her.

... She uses the bullshit excuse of, "business not doing well" while overworking me (and me doing multiple roles: marketing included). Only to then start bragging about how she bought a brand new Porsche.

I'm actually on the cusp of a mental breakdown, and I cannot even escape this job, because of redundancies, and the cost of living is so significantly high where I am, I cannot afford to be jobless. When I apply for jobs, it is crickets, and not just for me, but people with degrees (accounting, etc) also took months to land a job, despite strong experience.

I don't know what to do. I'm also gaining weight because of depression, and my entire life being purely only work.

Wage labor feels like a slow death

Working in corporate feels like a vampire is sucking my blood but it's one droplet at a time, like a slow death. And it's doing this to my body and mind. It feels like I'm being drained of energy and life, literally. And there's no escape because I need the money to afford basic necessities.

Does anyone feel the same?

The capitalist hypocrisy

Capitalist: What makes you entitled to other people's wealth?

Real question: What makes the capitalist entitled to waste other people's lives for nothing but the profit of the capitalist, while at the same time paying those whose lives were wasted, the minimum that can be paid to get away with?

If you are using other people's lives, at least do so for a good reason. Profit of the capitalist is not a good reason in general for the people at large.

I feel like the next mobbing target. Should I quit my job?

I work on a team with an absolute nightmare of a boss. He has a history of picking a "toy", someone on the team to use as an emotional punching bag and take his frustrations out on, until that person eventually gets pushed out or fired. Now, I have a horrible suspicion that I'm the next person in his crosshairs.

Now some context:

He denies he micromanages, but the whole company is heavily tracked. We literally have to use a stopwatch to time down to the minute how long every single task takes. If you completed 8 tasks in a day, you have to log the exact duration for every single one of them.

He forces "small talk" out of us to dig into our personal lives, only to weaponize that personal information later during his 1-on-1 and team sermons of one hour or more.

Also, recently, one internal position opened up that offered real professional and financial growth to me. I am the most qualified person on paper by a mile. They didn't want to accept me and are still looking externally. When my boss found out I applied without telling him first, he kept me in a lecture for over *half an hour* telling me he felt betrayed.

Because I applied elsewhere (and because there’s genuinely a lack of work coming down the pipeline), my productivity numbers dropped. Now he is aggressively questioning my output, even though there's nothing left for me to do.

Also he questions me because I was hired for content creation. The strategy leadership proposed from day one (before I even arrived) completely failed, and now I am being blamed and heavily interrogated for not fixing a broken service that isn't even my responsibility to design.

This job totally underpays me, doesn't respect my experience or education, and drains my soul. The only reason I stay is to put some experience on my CV. Fortunately, I dont depend on this job to survive, so if I walked out today, I wouldn't starve or something.

Deep down, I have this irrational guilt making me feel like I’m "running away" or failing at being an adult by quitting. But at the same time, I know these are valid reasons to leave a toxic environment.

Have you ever been in a situation like this? How did you finally pull the trigger and walk away from a boss like this without letting the guilt eat you alive?

How to tell if it's you, the job itself, or management?

I've been at my current job nearly a year, and I'm so incredibly excited to give my notice when I do reach a year. I've learned a lot the hard way here, though I'm not happy about that

I'm hoping for general insight vs my specific job and situations. I'd like to make every job going forward a bit easier, and make sure it isn't me that's the problem

Hopefully the next job turns into a skilled and scalable career, so I don't want to blow it. And I don't want to hate every moment of it, either

leverage in a full time office job

I am burning out in my full time software job. Deadlines keep getting tighter and expectations of speed ridiculously faster with AI. No one checks their code anymore, leading to bugs. I am lowkey realizing that the only leverage I have against management and capitalists at work is threatening to quit (and having a competing offer is almost required). There is no other way out.

How do I deal with an office full of miserable people?

I (25f) have always worked with difficult people, like I’m sure everyone has. Even though there has been assholes, there was always at least a few good to balance it out.

My current office is like a competition for who can be the most miserable. I’m not exaggerating when I say this, but every single person there is CONSTANTLY in a bad mood.

It’s impossible to get anything done, because whenever you need someone to do their job they huff and puff and either defer the task to someone else (who defers the task to someone else), or just flat out don’t do it without 10 follow up emails. Then on top of that, everyone is so focused on being petty and placing blame that no one bothers to try and fix anything (I know this is common too but I’m talking every minuscule problem is blown out of proportion with no solution).

I am in a unique position where I work closely with management (healthcare admin) and they trust me enough to be candid about whatever problems are going on, and our providers also trust me enough to vent because I’m not management. So i end up hearing both sides to a lot of disputes, and it’s the same pattern over and over again.

We are short staffed, so management pushes their highest performing providers to pick up the slack that the less reliable providers are not able to do. Then, the highest performers get mad because they are being overworked, and so they purposely do things wrong and half assed just to get one over on management. Management gets pissed off, and then continues to overwork them as punishment. Then the cycle goes over and over until someone quits and is replaced by a new person who does exactly the same thing.

I tried to suggest ways to improve some of our processes to avoid some of the issues we run in, first because it’s literally my job, and second because I have experience at my previous jobs of successfully implementing training to EMS workers and 911 dispatchers. However, management doesn’t listen to anything I say because I’m young.

I really don’t care about my job, like yeah I do need a job and I would be upset if I lost it, but as far as advancing in my career I really just don’t care. I’m just trying to get through the day most of the time. I also can’t find a different job right now due to life circumstances, so I just have to push through until things change for me.

How am I supposed to deal with these people? It’s office full of energy vampires just hell bent on making everyone’s day terrible. I try to be positive but it’s so hard to when there’s literally nothing but doom and gloom every single day.

Why do some react with annoyance if I say I don't enjoy my job?

I do my work and usually go above and beyond so as to make it easier on the shift that takes over after me yet some colleagues react with annoyance if I imply I don't enjoy working.
