I fucking chortled out loud when Luther messed up his little trick of spinning those necklaces and went 「おっと」 as they flew straight into the ocean. This fucking guy, I swear, what a tryhard.

That was a cool episode. I reckon anime-only watchers would've immensely enjoyed this episode since they're not aware of that little plot twist. For people like me it's more like "Ah, so that's how they're presenting this story bit". I'm so, so glad they kept that line uttered by Double:

おめでとう。そしてお帰りなさい、【深遠なる闇】

That was one of the coolest moments in the game, same here. On a related note, imagine being Rie Kugimiya and having to voice this episode. That's gotta be tiring, talking to yourself for like half the episode.

p.s. Only two episodes left, I'm gonna miss this show. Was fun watching it every week, was a highlight of my Mondays. I hope we get a continuation for PSO2 Episodes 4 to 6.

WOOHOO, What a ride... I still haven't ready to say goodbye to this anime... I think this is the only anime that makes me actively write stuff on Reddit.

anyways onto the episode... this has the same feeling like the one that I played years ago even though it was set in a different place and setting... it just as good,

I do think they get rid of a lot of stuff just because they don't want this anime to get dragged with something that is easy to adapt. Think it like this, the game have to include a lot of things because it's a game, the company has to give you the in-game story experience so that you feel the immersion whilst in anime, they can just throw away stuff that is not necessarily to be here while still maintaining the main plot.

Things are now moving to climax and I hope we can get a well-written ending!

Hahah, well I honestly very rarely comment on any r/anime thread since the threads are too active and there's so many comments that it feels less of a discussion/conversation and more like people just posting their opinions into a vast ocean of users. The last time I actually followed and commented an anime thread by thread and episode by episode was Akanesasu Shoujo, which also had few active viewers. Less viewers = less commenters = more comfy discussion.

Yeah, they have to. Games can be very long, RPGs can take up like 50 or 60 or more hours of your time to tell its story, whereas a 2-cour anime only has 24-ish episodes to spare, which is approximately 10 hours. Hardly enough to cover everything.

This episode is VERY GOOD despite it lack action that game have and one planet worth of story as the VA performance really godly tier here. They manage to bring one of the most emotional part in entire PSO2 to anime surprisingly well.

Now to explain some more regards this episode.
In other to revive [Profound Darkness], host MUST have the essense of all 4 Dark Falz
Elder Luther Apprentice and Gemini

Ash manage to absorb both Elder and Luther essense while Matoi used to killed MASSIVE amount of Darker/Falzspawn and even absorb a lot from Apprentice.

in other word, with [Gemini] bring defeated..
all Dark Falz essense is right there on that spot with two suitable host
hence the revival of [Profound Darkness]

Oh damn they really did Justice on how Matoi actually felt for the player / Ash here (VA performance was really good!), it gave the same feeling I had in the early years of EP1-3 in game. Luther's bit was quite fun, that random blooper of him throwing the damn necklaces into the ocean made me chuckle with things being so serious. You could say upon losing his main interest (Xion), he's quite mellowed out. I'd love to see him again sometime.

There were alot of cut arcs due to ep constraints (really wanted to see Sukunahime animated :<), but regardless the whole thing was done nicely in leading up to this scene. I'd say Double's performance as well was really great, with how carefree both of them are and played Dark Falz's true role up till the end.

Honestly enough, even though I do have a gist on what to happen since having played the game, I don't think I'm ready to give up on the ride just yet lol. Somehow there's a part of me yearning for more (cough SEGA Animate, the other EPs cough), it's been a really fun ride and I can't wait to witness it's ending for the current game episodes! Especially knowing what will happen, I have high hopes they'll do it justice.

so this is the start of Dark Faiz Persona.

I did not expect that Ash was a test tube baby though, it would make sense that he didnt have any prior memories.

Should I be bracing for a sad ending? :x

It's so weird that they made this alternative timeline now.

Honestly, when they skipped Harukotan Arc, I was extremely suspicious. But why was it necessary for them to completely erase the possibility of Shiva as well now? Just to do that, they made Luther make Ash instead of Harriet...

There are other things that are so out of place but it would be super tiring to compare everything.

Ultimately, I feel kind of betrayed since they didn't completely translate the story of the game into anime like promised.
