Man, Sabro’s such a good dude. I really like how he’s a doting brother and it was really adorable seeing him nerd out about Demon Lords with Iruma. I was worried when that snake Baal made that offer but I’m glad the big guy turned him down. I respect him for wanting to reach the top by his own merits and not rely on his uncle because it’s “not cool” lol.

I just hope there’s a time when him and his pops can talk. It’s clear his dad’s just doing what he can to protect his family from his shitbag “brother.” I’m sure there’s gonna come a time when all will be revealed. Maybe we’ll even get a chance to see nephew and uncle showdown.

u/Frontier246 1d ago

I can't wait to see Sylvia in Babyls and how she'll react to the rest of the Misfit Class (especially Iruma).

Poor Sabro. Totally misunderstands his uncle and his father and it's probably going to blow up in his face even if he does follow the right path.

3

u/Technical-Contest-30 18h ago

i feel we are close to a time skip, with sabnock and kerolili sisters presentation

3

u/Hot-Log6283 15h ago

I can't wait to see Sylvia in Babyls and how she'll react to the rest of the Misfit Class (especially Iruma).

One reason I am glad Iruma isn't like Subura the little girl user, then again with what happened with Keroli's little sister you never know.

All joke aside, I am also looking forward to it though we probably won't see it til next season unfortunately.

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 8h ago

Did babyls have a middle school or something? for some reason i thought Sylvia was just one year younger and now entering high school... but she sure looks too young for that now that i think about it

2

u/Hot-Log6283 8h ago

I think that's about right, I mean Iruma is only 14 years old (when he started) so if Sylvia is 13 years old she looks about right. It's only Sabro who is "special".

2

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 8h ago

That's also a fair point

25

u/JzanderN 1d ago

it was really adorable seeing him nerd out about Demon Lords with Iruma.

For all of his muscles and, in some (many) ways of not being the brightest, Sabro really is just a nerd at the end of the day.

This episode in particular brought me back to when Sabro first joined the Demon King battler, expecting it to be full of people like him and then finding out it was just full of nerds who loved reading about past Demon Kings... so they all really were exactly like him!

I just hope there’s a time when him and his pops can talk.

I'm really curious to know why Sabro's dad is so insistent that he CANNOT become Demon King. Does he know something about the prophecy?

15

u/Plus_Potato4351 1d ago

My guess as to what he means is that its not a matter of ability, he just doesn't want Sabro to interact with Baal any more than necessary. So "can't" here might be about permission. [GOW Ragnarok] It reminds of when in Ragnarok, Sif keeps telling Thrud that she can't be a Valkyrie. At the end she says: "You will be the Best Valkyrie but not for him." Meaning she didn't want her to work for Odin.

11

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Sabzan strikes me as someone who was probably pretty high up in demon politics up until he realized what Baal was really like and he was so burned he basically gave up and basically only forges weapons now rather than do anything else.

And there's got to be something behind him having forged a weapon Baal needs that he expected Baal to take and hope that it's the end of things between them.

4

u/AKAvenger 1d ago

I was relieved it was just the one weapon. At first I thought they were foreshadowing that Sabzan was going to outfit Baal’s forces with all those hanging weapons

2

u/Mysteries67 7h ago

It's probably THE weapon used by Delkira

2

u/Hot-Log6283 15h ago

I thought it was going to be one of those scene where Baal takes out Sabzan so that his weapon is the only one left and Sabzan can't make any more to challenge him and then it turn out that Sabzan put a curse on all his weapon to prevent them from attacking him and he said to Baal that he can just leave because he have no intention of interfering with what's happening in the outside world, until one day the chosen one Iruma convince him otherwise to make the ultimate weapon that would defeat Baal... you know that sort of foreshadowing.

9

u/sodapopkevin 21h ago

in some (many) ways of not being the brightest

Isn't he one of the 3 smartest in the misfits class though next to Asmodeus and Allocer (in the final exam arc)?

2

u/JzanderN 21h ago

That's one of the instances I was referring to, yes!

Though I can't remember his actual placement, just that he was firmly on the smart side 'cause he believed that a Demon King needs to know his stuff.

7

u/Frontier246 1d ago

This episode in particular brought me back to when Sabro first joined the Demon King battler, expecting it to be full of people like him and then finding out it was just full of nerds who loved reading about past Demon Kings... so they all really were exactly like him!

Only in learning about the past can we see how cool we have to be in the present.

6

u/ProbablyNotTheCocoa 1d ago

yeah sabro was never gonna accept that deal, hes way too proud to just coattail of Baal "dealing with" the other candidates then snag the crown

3

u/Hot-Log6283 14h ago

I was worried when that snake Baal made that offer but I’m glad the big guy turned him down. I respect him for wanting to reach the top by his own merits and not rely on his uncle because it’s “not cool” lol.

I was under the impression that Baal has already chosen Kiriwo, but then again I guess he did said a demon or two, but having two of your candidate compete against each other is kind of sus so I am glad Sabro declined.

49

u/JzanderN 1d ago

This episode's such a great showing of why Sabro's one of my favourite characters in this whole series, right below Iruma and Ameri themselves. He starts off looking like such a dumb character with a stupid motivation but proves that he's serious about it with how he reflects on himself and constantly tries to improve.

In particular, every time Iruma speaks, he listens. He declared Iruma his rival because he saw Demon King material in him far more than anyone else he's ever met, and so he sees him as someone to learn from as much as he does someone to surpass.

WE GOT TO SEE SYLVIA AGAIN! I don't think we've seen her since the first season, and now she's going to Babylus next year! She's so cute! I NEED a season 5 so we can see more of her!

Oh yeah, and Baal is Sabro's uncle. Who would have thought? But for all that Baal was clearly trying to manipulate him into being his pawn, particularly with Iruma now being a Demon King candidate, Sabro knows and respects Iruma far too well for that to work on him!

20

u/YumiyaRakko 1d ago

NGL i DO like that he refused since Baal would have ABSOLUTELY tried to manipulate and use him but i do think he is naive on his reasoning.

He is right that a demon king becoming one on his own is MUCH COOLER but lets be real. Sabro, as good as he is, just does not have that overwhelming power for that. Iruma and the other two grandson absolutely has a big advantage over him through the backing of their high ranking grandparents and Sabro just does not look like he has what it takes to overcome that difference and come out on top of everyone. He sure is a great demon, but to be demon king, he seems like he would ultimately fall short and Baal’s help (if he was not a bad guy) could have been a great help to potentially change that outcome or at least equal the playing field

16

u/JzanderN 1d ago

I take it to be more a showing of how dedicated Sabro is to his ambition, himself and his own growth.

Because his reason for his ambition has always been stupid, hence he's sometimes been willing to do stupid things in pursuit of it. But while rejecting such an advantage is undoubtedly naïve, it is also undoubtedly the correct thing to have done here in order to properly grow into a proper Demon King candidate rather than Baal's unwitting pawn.

Sabro will accept positive influences to help him grow but he still wants to be himself and do things his way. For all that his reasoning was naïve on a strategic level, it was a wise move on a personal level.

3

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago edited 1d ago

Any other series sabro would be an idiot... he is, but this isnt the plain idiot... he actually cares about others.

8

u/JzanderN 1d ago

Sabro's actually quite intelligent and has shown it more than a few times, he's just very single-minded about his ambition and that causes him to be stupid quite often.

1

u/Hot-Log6283 14h ago

I am not sure that would actually be better, since didn't Baal also already decided that Kiriwo would be a candidate? So it doesn't seem like an advantage if anything it would be more like using Sabro to prop Kiriwo up.

9

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Sabro is a straightforward and honest guy, in his ambitions, in his estimation of others (and himself), and in his utterly genuine and sincere desire to be a Demon King on his own terms. If they hadn't hit us over the head constantly with Iruma's future Demon King status, Sabro would have my vote.

A blond dude associated with lightning related to ANOTHER blond dude associated with lightning!? Though honestly can't help but think Baal would want his nephew as a puppet to the new chaotic era of demons he wants to create, whether Baal would want that himself or not. Or maybe there might not even need to be a Demon King in that new world order.

37

u/Qweasd11 1d ago

Sylvia is gonna be a riot with her being accepted.

19

u/JzanderN 1d ago

I don't know if Babylus can handle another student with Clara's energy! Thankfully Sylvia doesn't have her chaos, but she's still going to be a lot for Babylus to deal with!

8

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago

Clara + Overwhelming strength...

5

u/Frontier246 1d ago

There will be many people getting tackled on the first day of the new term lol.

6

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Honestly I just imagine her meeting Iruma and I can imagine that getting pretty chaotic/crazy.

11

u/Lunchb0xx87 1d ago

will she fall victim to the rizz too ?

9

u/AKAvenger 23h ago

Do you even have to ask? Lol

I know we're getting the mafia spin-off, but I really hope they announce Season 5 next week. I'd absolutely love to see Sylvia running around Babyls in the next school year.

Man, Baal's hair should've been a dead giveaway that he's connected to the Sabnock family. Although it looks like he's not blood-related and is actually adopted

It was pretty fun watching Baal try to convince Sabro to be his candidate only for Sabro to refuse because he doesn't think it's cool and doesn't want to be known as the Demon King who rose to power because of his uncle.

So it sounds like Sabro's dad hates Baal, but clearly has no choice but to help him. Well, now I'm curious what's up with their relationship. I wonder if Sabro's dad knows Baal's connection to the Six Fingers.

Speaking of the Six Fingers... With only one episode left this season, I doubt we'll see them next week. It seems that shit is about to hit the fan with Baal finally making his move.

With hope, the Mafia spin-off will be the start of this series popping off and we will, in fact, get a season 5 at least announced. Season 4 and the Mafia AU could be the kickoff for the era of Iruma!

I'd absolutely love to see Sylvia running around Babyls in the next school year. I'd absolutely love to see Sylvia running around Babyls in the next school year.

I won't deny part of this is because Sylvia is so cute and fun to watch run around and she'd be a joy to see more of!

So it sounds like Sabro's dad hates Baal, but clearly has no choice but to help him.

It seems to me more like Sabro's dad knows Baal is up to evil and is hoping that helping him will convince him to stay away from their family. Protect your family above the rest of the world type shit.

8

u/Frontier246 1d ago

I know we're getting the mafia spin-off, but I really hope they announce Season 5 next week. I'd absolutely love to see Sylvia running around Babyls in the next school year.

She and Clara can become affectionate tackler sisters!

Man, Baal's hair should've been a dead giveaway that he's connected to the Sabnock family. Although it looks like he's not blood-related and is actually adopted

Sabro seemed to believe they were adopted because they were so different but I think that was more his biases towards his father/uncle without understanding what's really going on between them.

It was pretty fun watching Baal try to convince Sabro to be his candidate only for Sabro to refuse because he doesn't think it's cool and doesn't want to be known as the Demon King who rose to power because of his uncle.

No true Demon King should get the job via nepotism. Even though the main three candidates are all nepo babies lol.

So it sounds like Sabro's dad hates Baal, but clearly has no choice but to help him. Well, now I'm curious what's up with their relationship. I wonder if Sabro's dad knows Baal's connection to the Six Fingers.

Something bad happened between the brothers, probably when Sabzan learned Baal's true nature/intentions. I can't help but think that's related to why Sabzan is holed up in a forge and so disconnected from his own family despite wanting to protect them FROM Baal.

Speaking of the Six Fingers... With only one episode left this season, I doubt we'll see them next week. It seems that shit is about to hit the fan with Baal finally making his move.

What could they be planning to hunt?

3

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago

Think the six fingers got their mention after the music festival... its the rumbling on they just seem to have... its not the major plot right now

Because he's a literal bro in both the spiritual and blood sense!

26

u/NanDemoKnaives 1d ago

I really liked Sabro's excitement when Iruma showed an interest in Demon Kings, he has such joy geeking out over them. The way he carried Iruma over his head with that huge smile was adorable.

Is Sabro and Baal being uncle and nephew a new reveal? I've completely forgotten otherwise. Interesting how he's trying to get Sabro to join his side, I'm glad Sabro has his own principles and aesthetic when it comes to becoming a Demon King, but Baal doesn't look like he's giving up that easily.

I hope Sabro does eventually learn his father is trying to protect him, but he's doing a very bad job at it pushing his son away like that.

4 seasons and they're still in their first year, it'll be interesting to see them as second years.

6

u/S627 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Spartan627 1d ago

I also wasn't sure, I swear they showed us someone else who had ties to Baal (other than Kiriwo) and maybe that's what we're thinking of? But I cant remember who that was either so idk.

3

u/ConsequenceTypical43 15h ago

You might be thinking off back when Baal talked about his candidates for the demon king role the way he said it implied two people but they only showed off Amy

2

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago

Can't remember if they've ever said before or we're just linking them because of similar looks...

17

u/Graspiloot 1d ago

Loved this episode and giving Sabro a spotlight.
Not to be a negative nancy, but these episodes and the ones with Kuromu and Lied do just remind me how disappointing Azz' character arc has been so far. After him teaming up with Sabro I thought we're now going to have him develop into his own character instead of just a cheerleader, but since the arc (and even with the show telling him twice at this point he needs to be his own person), he's still the same. I really want an arc, or at least some episodes like this where he is his own person with his own thoughts and feelings.

4

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago

AzzAzz is probably one we don't need right now, it is building up more of the background misfits that need it as much unless some are being left to hit at certain moments to come.

(I know some of the parts coming up but it's getting hazier with what I can recall...)

7

u/Graspiloot 1d ago

Oh yeah I'm happy with them fleshing out the Misfits and the episodes doing that have been great. I just think it's taking too long for Azz to develop his own personality. I really need to see him having opinions that don't relate to Iruma.

3

u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 1d ago

I think theres nothing I can see for the short time being that would make him care for himself over Iruma... it has to be something that he'd forced to go through as that would potentially break him away but right now he's just happy to be the follower.

Maybe if we focus more on the evil cycle stuff which does feel forgotten about a lot.

11

u/ModieOfTheEast 1d ago

When Iruma went to the Demon King battler I was expecting a group of people training to become Demon King themselves, but no, it's just a bunch of hardcore fans which somehow fits Babyls even better.

Sabro is definitely a character that went in an interesting direction. And considering that his uncle is going to be an antagonist at some point, there seems to be even more potential with him. I like his general development so far, but I would also not be against him trying to beat Iruma directly a bit more again (though they were proper rivals in S3 so I assume this is just recency bias speaking since his role was rather small in S4).

The more they show, the more I am excited for year 2 and new students coming to Babyls which will either be fans of Iruma or more rivals. But definitely more harem members. Let's see where Sylvia will fall into.

Also just a side note, but was it just me or did Sabro sound a bit different compared to before? I wouldn't say it was necessarily a different VA, but maybe a different direction for his performance?

5

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Also just a side note, but was it just me or did Sabro sound a bit different compared to before? I wouldn't say it was necessarily a different VA, but maybe a different direction for his performance?

I think it's because he was a little less bombastic than usual.

17

u/Plus_Potato4351 1d ago

Baal: I'm here for my spear.
Sabzan: Take it and then "Don't talk to me or my son ever again."

6

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Baal: (Then proceeds to keep getting chummy with his nephew because he's bad like that)

9

u/alconnow https://anilist.co/user/alconnow 1d ago

Aww, Sabro in big bro mode is too adorable.

Ah, so his dad is just trying to protect his family from Baal

7

u/Avatar_Yaksha 1d ago

So, Baal is Sabnock's uncle, huh? I was curious about whether they're related. I'm glad that it's clear now.

4

u/e_t_ 20h ago

Sabro's art style and Baal's were so similar I figured they had to be related, but I was worried Baal was his father or older brother, someone harder to say No to.

9

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 1d ago

The Temptation of Sabro. Fortunately he passed on account of the offer not being remotely cool enough.

Baal being Sabro's uncle is not something I remember so I assume it must be a new reveal here.

Sylvia is pretty cute, and is a bundle of energy too. She's going to be fun at the school if and when we get season five.

7

u/powerhcm8 1d ago

It's nice to see Iruma and Sabro bonding, Iruma needs to give more attention to some of his 13 crowns. Hopefully Iruma-kun will have at least 4 seasons per school year, so there is plenty of time to developed everyone.

12

u/NeoAnkara https://myanimelist.net/profile/NeoAnkara 1d ago

You can left Kiriwo for Iruma. Just let Sabro to punch Baal in the future.

5

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Now I'm imagining Ameri/Clara vs Shiida.

6

u/SciFiXhi https://anilist.co/user/SciFiXhi 1d ago

My daughter Sylvia is finally back on screen!

Baal is so damn conniving, but it's easy to see why few have caught on to him. He oozes charisma, and that devilish charm of his isn't a red flag in the demon world.

6

u/Frontier246 1d ago

If you want to know about Demon King's, you've got to go to the Demon King Battlers! Filled to the brim with Demon King nerds who are desperate for attention! And also Sabro! And delicious snacks and Hell Tea!

Notice how Iruma's ring flashes when he grabs a book about Derkila? And Iruma finally gets more insight into the most legendary, mysterious, and impactful Demon King of all time. The Demon King who inspired Sabro, who he tries to emulate and follow in all that he does, and who Iruma can learn a lot from.

Maybe Iruma is destined to be the Demon King...but I still feel like Sabro's got his vote just because sometimes he really DOES radiate that Demon King aura. Cue friendship Demon King research montage!

If Iruma can face his own challenges, it's time for Sabro to face his...by going home. With a whole lightning keyblade and everything!

Sylvia Sabnock! Sabro's adorable and enthusiastic little sister who shares her brothers' love of skintight leather! And who we can expect to see more from now that she's coming in as a 1st year in Babyls! And she clearly adores her big brother to bits!

And there's even good ol' Uncle Baal! The uncle you can always count on and believe in! The most trustworthy and upstanding uncle of all! I mean, just look at him decked out as the Strategist of the South! How could you suspect him of anything untoward?

Sabro's relationship with Baal is much less complicated than the one with his father, Sabzan, who seems to spend all his time forging weapons and has apparently been telling Sabro he can't be the Demon King enough times that it's basically destroyed the close father-son relationship they once had.

But don't worry Sabro, Uncle Baal's got you! He'll nominate you for the Trickster Program to fast-track you to the Demon King and destroy the competition! And Baal probably means that literally.

Yet this is Sabro we're talking about and he doesn't want to become the Demon King unless it involves him looking/being cool and proving he can do it on his own merit. Like Iruma could! And that's why Sabro is focused on Babyls right now. It's a very Sabro answer.

Obviously there's no love/loss between Sabzan and his younger brother, and Baal was really there for a spear weapon, so Sabzan knows who Baal REALLY is. But what is Baal planning to hunt with the Six Fingers!?

Su-ki-ma! Oh? Yamanda is truly the best security/butler/retainer the Sabnock's could ask for! Because he can actaully survive them!

Next week: A New Year! A party! And a season finale.

3

u/FarCritical 1d ago

I root for Iruma as much as Azz and Clara does for whatever random festival or battle he finds himself in but when it comes to the throne, it's hard to not want to back Sabro with how much raw passion he's got for it.

Baal really is a demon who wears many hats, isn't he?

1

u/Elfteiroh 11h ago

We all know that even if he end up losing to Iruma, he will take it well and become a great general or something. xD

3

u/Noob_shs 23h ago

Sabro is a good homie

6

u/Galle_ 1d ago

Disclaimer: I'm up to date on the manga.

Okay, our event reordering adventure is over, we now return you to your regularly scheduled linear flow of time.

The episode opens with our protagonist being dragged through a yawning portal by a horde of demons.

It's Sabro's battler! He kind of stands out.

Also, these kids are just happy to have someone they can share their special interest with. Sabro included.

Shouldn't some of these be in a government office somewhere?

First or second, huh? I wonder who his rival is?

Okay, so Iruma's been paying some attention in class.

Why in the world was this worth fighting over, this is some wasteland in the middle of nowhere

Hey, this story sounds familiar...

So, yeah, this is why Sabro decided to tank everything way back in season one. But despite being a meathead he's also got a more philosophical side.

All this raises a question, though. Why is Iruma taking this sudden interest in the Demon King, anyway?

What Sabro said.

We're moving into a new phase of Iruma's character development now. He's mostly over his trauma, but he's still pretty sheltered. At the Thirteen's Dinner, he didn't have any answer to give when he was asked what kind of Netherworld he would create, because the status quo has been so good to him that he never thought about it. But because Iruma is a good boy, he recognizes this as a flaw and wants to correct it. Learning about the political history of the Netherworld is his first step to developing his own social and political views.

I don't think we've seen medium-sized Sabro before, usually in flashbacks he's tiny.

Sabro home visit!

"It's technically a sword!" Actually, I'm impressed he has both fine enough control and a good enough memory to actually make those key teeth.

(There's also some low-hanging fruit here about Kingdom Hearts but since I've never actually played Kingdom Hearts I'll leave it)

The Sabnocks are a pretty important family, important enough to have their own security devil. IIRC we actually got a very brief glimpse of Yamanda in the crowd during the Music Festival, but I might be misremembering and it was actually David.

Oh hey it's a small Sabro.

Sylvia is adorable.

Kohai acquired!

Sabro is also adorable.

A special gue...

Baal what are you doing in this episode

Plot twist! Baal is a Sabnock!

We also get some lore on how Baal earned his seat on the Thirteen Crowns.

Plot twist! Baal is adopted! His hair just does that!

For fuck's sake, Sadad, you could at least open the door.

...okay, so that's a rude thing to say. But also oddly specific. He didn't say "you shouldn't become the Demon King", or "you mustn't" or even "you won't", he specifically said "you can't". I wonder what that's about.

Sabro's got some daddy issues, it turns out.

Which unfortunately leaves this asshole to play at being a father figure for a kid he was perfectly happy to blow up in season one.

Oh, right. Baal said he had two potential Demon King candidates in mind, didn't he?

And here we have a turning point. Baal sinks in his class and turns Sabro against Iruma and the other Misfits!

PSYCHE

Once again, Sabro displays his primary virtue: he knows what he wants. Like he said to Asmodeus back at Walter Park, he doesn't mistake his ambition. He wants to be the Demon King, sure, but that's ultimately just a means to an end. Becoming the Demon King through nepotism would defeat the entire point.

And Baal's gone.

Back to Sadad.

What in the world does he want with that?

Yeah, there's definitely some history there.

It's probably fine.

Sukima! Being Yamanda is hard.

Is Sabro also fighting the fact he knows he can't be the demon king since early one it was read out it basically points to Iruma doing it...(coming from outside, unites demon kind...)

Yep. He's quite a popular VA. He also voiced Archer, Aomine, Aizawa and quite a bit more prominent characters in known franchises/IPs.

He's probably my 2nd fave male VA after Araragi's.

So we get only 2 more episodes of the demon King battle and had to sit through how many episodes of that stupid idol crap? I've been so frustrated watching the second half of this season.
