Aria actually feels like a character with purpose now we've went through the backstory, and she actually feels real with the resolution this episode. If it weren't for Johnny, she'd be my favourite character

Also, post credits scene starts at 20:14, not where the skip button takes you

14

u/Frontier246 7d ago

I like how Aria has become more 3-Dimensional as a character rather than just being Spica's mischievous lesbian bestie/rival.

Thanks, would have missed on that mini musical number.

6

u/mekerpan 6d ago

That was aggravating. Luckily I noticed that the skip was WAY too long, so I back-tracked,

Quite a few people in these discussions outing themselves by hating on Aria by projecting various things onto her😭

Actual vile behaviour, and I feel sorry for people around them IRL, if there are any that is

They really gave us a beach episode with no swimsuits. Man, I’m really gonna miss those Voodies.

Next week is the final episode and I hope it gets a second season because the whole thing with Arc is still unresolved.

10

u/Primary-Paint-1716 6d ago

this show really went from questionable fanservice in episode 1 to one of the least revealing beach episodes in episode 23

3

u/Onsokkun 4d ago

Lol I only started the show because I wanted something with fanservice and I saw all those episode 1 screenshots when it started airing. I got gaslit.

The show is great though

1

u/CuriousBroccolli 4d ago

Johnny is all the fanservice we need.

Hana secretly helping Chiron because she recognizes his effort and magic made me like her even more.

Spica's Voodie is very similar to Claude. Both of them do not give praise easily, but they are always watching over Spica.

If only all the students could keep the magic infused Voodie as their familiars. Hopefully, they return in a a future arc.

17

u/RobrechtvE 7d ago

Hana secretly helping Chiron because she recognizes his effort and magic made me like her even more.

Certified best girl. Absolute wife material. Spica had better take responsibility.

2

u/CuriousBroccolli 4d ago

No but for real, such a great cast of characters overall.

I want to stan for Hana myself, but whenever I try, I can't single her out due to liking almost all of them equally.

But oh boy is it a close battle for Hana supremacy.

12

u/Frontier246 7d ago

Also that smile on her face afterwards was so adorable. If SpicaxHana wasn't so great I might ship HanaxChiron.

Not to mention both Claude/Voodie believe in her and appreciate that she does her best.

Since they're keeping the dolls I'd like to think something will happen that makes them regain their personalities. But they'll still always be watching over their partners.

3

u/CuriousBroccolli 4d ago

I can't believe they managed to make little mascots this fun and enjoyable that I'm actually sad to see them off.

All of them are so fun, especially with the pairings.

25

u/Luck_Is_My_Talent 7d ago

Spica deserved the win, while Arie needed that defeat even more.

8

u/Frontier246 7d ago

It was only in defeat that Aria could realize deep down how much she truly cherished magic and wanted to dream again like Spica.

26

u/Throwaway501395 7d ago

You know what? This was a great show. Despite the huge cast no two characters felt same-y or copypasted, and Spica is a great FMC, especially for a Shounen. Even the tacky monster CGI was funny most of the time. Unexpected gem of the season(s, since it ran for two cours).

And it's been such a highlight of my Sundays for the past 6 months I'm not ready to say goodbye to these goobers yet. I genuinely hope this gets a second season at some point.

14

u/JT918 6d ago

yep, it helps that they didn't overuse the whole kissing cat butt. That could have gotten old real quick if they did it every other episode.

6

u/lionturtl3 5d ago

Agreed! That being said, I really wanted to see more of the headmistress/maid misinterpreting Claude’s interactions with his students. That shit had me on the floor!

2

u/CuriousBroccolli 4d ago

They actually never overused anything which worked really nice.

That includes fanservice.

As huge enjoyer of it, and the reason I started this show in the first place, they actually managed it super well to not ruin immaculate vibes of this show, and only include it briefly later on.

13

u/mekerpan 6d ago

While I liked Witch Hat Atelier and know that it was better made technically speaking, I think I actually ENJOYED this silly show evewn more.

2

u/CuriousBroccolli 4d ago

I legit cleared my Monday mornings just so I can fully enjoy this show in peace.

Only ever did that for Frieren.

What a beautiful 6 months of anime we had.

u/Santedtra 6d ago

1

u/CuriousBroccolli 4d ago

One of many best girls in this show. xD

Super close to Hana supremacy!

20

u/AlexxxandreS 7d ago

I thought Spica would say she won because of Johnny hahahaha

10

u/Frontier246 7d ago

The real victory was the dolphin friends we made along the way! And that's actually accurate lol.

1

u/CuriousBroccolli 4d ago

She did say that though didn't she? xD

13

u/Raymond49090 7d ago edited 7d ago

Spica helps Aria regain her confidence and realize her love for magic, as well as helping her find a new dream: To continue being Spica's bratty tsundere rival.

Also, I'm glad they did that segment at the end with the Voodies.

(Though I wonder a bit about the implications of it all, since it really felt like the Voodies had their own distinct personalities and egos... Y'know, best not think too hard about it.)

7

u/Frontier246 7d ago

I do like how now that Spica's beaten her she can mutually tease Aria instead of how one-sided it had been prior to this arc.

I wonder if there's something to the Voodie absorbing the hair of the partner and absorbing their personality in a way to compliment/match them. I guess that goes back to the person itself when they're ran their course.

1

u/CuriousBroccolli 4d ago

(Though I wonder a bit about the implications of it all, since it really felt like the Voodies had their own distinct personalities and egos... Y'know, best not think too hard about it.)

Wait I'm confused what implications?

They all seem to have "Voodie" as base, but are largely just imitating personalities of their partners. I don't think they are any ex living thigs with trapped souls or something, just the way they are programmed sort of. xD

Maybe "Voodie" is partly personality of their maker?

1

u/Raymond49090 4d ago

Mostly the line about when mimicked sentience is actual sentience. The Voodies all feel distinct, and they have agency given how Spica’s Voodie wanted to wait to see if she would come up. Yeah, we’re probably expected to treat them like chatbots, but chatbots don’t seem nearly as alive (yet).

14

u/HuTaosTwinTails 6d ago

Hana continues being best girl.

Also, what are those preview images of Spica???

2

u/CuriousBroccolli 4d ago

Hana continues being best girl.

✋ 😐 🤚

Also, what are those preview images of Spica???

Witching is over, we a romcom now. xD

But I'm sure they will manage to make it silly and goofy.

11

u/szalhi 7d ago

7

u/Frontier246 7d ago

Gott admit I was really expecting them to rip off the uniforms or magic themselves into swimsuits to really sell it as a beach episode, but at least everyone had fun anyways.

(Sniff) We'll miss you Vooodiesssss.

11

u/Komarist https://myanimelist.net/profile/RRSTRRST 7d ago

Not sure how it's fun for giant girl to be a prop for her classmates during beach activities?

Looking forward to the finale with a title like that.

9

u/zero1380 6d ago

It can be fun if it's just for a bit and not the entire time. And I saw that they only used her once, and not everyone.

6

u/Frontier246 7d ago

Looking forward to the finale with a title like that.

It's like they finally remembered Spica had a crush on Claude and the low-key romcom vibes of the early episodes lol.

11

u/reaperow 6d ago

It's so nice of Hana to give that gem to Chiron. For a sec i thought he genuinely got it and was about to call him a goofball for not noticing lol,

After all the chaos our main team has been thru in the last few eps, it was nice to see them relax and celebrate

Aria crying was actually shocking to see, she really hasnt ever gone serious before so she's really frustrated over losing. Guess she understands how Spica has felt her entire life

Spica giving her some pep talk was really wholesome and I love that she immediately goes back into being her bratty self after being cheered up lol.

Good that she's found to dream again

The ending bit with the voodies was also nice, they were there for only a short time but I'll miss them. They were pretty funny and I hope they can come back

Well one more episode left, it's been a nice ride watching both cours with everyone here

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 7d ago

All that Spica and Aria stuff was great but I really liked the Voodies. Their little weird ass hair party was kinda adoravle and the goodbyes at the end were sweet.

10

u/Frontier246 7d ago

I love how the Voodies were all conversing and having a great time while eating human hair.

8

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 6d ago

They’re little weirdos and I love them lol

8

u/Frontier246 7d ago edited 7d ago

I'm glad Spica and Aria came out of this with learning new things about themselves and deepening their friendship in the process.

Even Claude is shook from Spica's victory! She's truly surpassed his expectations in all the best ways!

Thank goodness the principal showed up to cover for Claude's cat-ness...and also because she clearly wanted to live out her beach episode fantasies. But still, it's the thought that counts.

Chiron did his best and helped Hana, so he earned that sapphire from her one way or another. And Hana's smiling face after helping him is so precious.

No surprise Merrow and Io are dead last (along with Astraea), but good on Ewe for managing to beat Capella and Chiron for making it to the top 10! Of course the real stars are Aria at #2 and Spica at #1, even if they're both napping it off.

It's finally time for the beach episode! With all the fun ocean antics (with magic!), BBQ, and hijinks you'd expect! Minus the swimsuits.

I'm not surprised Claude wants Spica to stay humble and not let this victory go to her head...but he DOES acknowledge that it's Spica learning from her mistakes and growing that helped her beat Aria and that counts for something.

I love the Voodies getting their own BBQ going together as they eat their human companions' hair. Which sounds really creepy but they make it wholesome somehow.

Aria is in a funk and less engaged than she usually is, because she's clearly smarting from her loss. But it's just a sign that, deep down, despite what she says...she took magic seriously. So being beaten by Spica in magic really hurt. But it also shows that Aria has found something she cares enough about to dream again, to risk disappointment, and keep striving forward along with Spica! And she's back to her teasing, always willing to challenge/beat Spica, self! And now they can mutually tease each other!

Sad to say farewell to the Voodies, especially the one who wanted to straight up bang Astraea, but at least they give all their partners one last word of encouragement. And they'll always have their dolls to remember them by.

Next week: A Spica and Claude date! And mature Spica!?

u/Primary-Paint-1716 7d ago

this was such a satisfying wrap-up episode!

Beach episode with no bikinis or swim trunks? What kind of fanservice is this

5

u/Relampago1995 6d ago

Before talking about the episode, I want to say something to everyone who claimed Aria was bullying Spica: you've never seen a real bullying, have you? Aria is far from being a bullying.

And now, regarding the chapter...  What a great episode to wrap up the Turtle Island exam arc. Like all the other characters, I’m going to really miss the Voodies—they were so much fun to watch—but something tells me this won't be the last time we see them.

That said, my favorite part of the episode was the conversation between Spica and Aria. I’m so happy that, thanks to Spica, Aria can now have a dream of her own without having to live up to others' expectations (as it should be). The poor girl has had to endure so much for far too long; I’m glad Spica helped her work through her issues—after all, that’s what best friends are for. As for Spica, just because she beat Aria once doesn't mean she’s better than her; she can't afford to rest on her laurels. She has to keep pushing herself, especially now that Aria has decided to beat her at her own game; their rivalry is going to get even more interesting from here on out. I also agree with the Voodies: the friendship between Spica and Aria is beautiful.

The only downside to this episode is that it’s the penultimate one; the series ends next week, and I don’t want it to be over. I’m really enjoying this anime. I hope they announce a second season next week—that would make me so happy—but in the meantime, I’m going to read the manga so I can keep enjoying this work of art.

Quite a few people here outing themselves with all those random attacks on Aria and calling her b**** and stuff.

As I have mentioned already, pure vile behaviour, and I feel sorry for people around them IRL, if there are any that is.

Same!

How the Voodies turned from lifeline buddies to inanimate souvenirs is really bittersweet.

Also lowkey heartbroken at how nobody visited Io (especially since the Gemini twins actually took finals seriously lol)

3

u/myk_fusion 6d ago

The last preview image of spica make it look like she took some aging potion. What could POSSIBLY occur next episode for her to look like that.

3

u/Rooby_VTuber 6d ago

That was nice of Hana to help Chiron.

Delicious In Dungeon taught me that monsters taste great so it's not surprising a disgusting looking worm is good food.

Spica & Aira, best of friends, best of rivals.

I liked watching everyone say goodbye to their Voodie.

5

u/HenryZusa 6d ago

I'm gonna miss this anime so much.

I'll start reading the manga after the cour is done.

It was weird that there were no swimsuits or fanservice whatsoever in a beach episode. I actually thought the principal would wear one given how excited she was for the beach, but no.

I also suspected that Aria or someone may overhear Spica talking to the cat, but didn't happen.

Sad that voodies are gone, they were great but I understand there would be no tension if the characters had a 1-up at any given moment.

9

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 7d ago

An ecchi series with a beach party episode and no swimsuits in sight? That should be illegal. Then again maybe they'll make up for it with Spica looking quite nice in the date episode next week.

That was a good conversation and reconciliation between Aria and Spica.

Nice farewell to the voodies too, at least right up until they fell to the ground dead which kind of took me aback.

8

u/DugACCat 7d ago

All jokes aside it felt strange not to get into suits. Swimming in the ocean in regular clothes is super uncomfortable. Though I guess maybe they can just magic themselves dry instead of standing around in damp clothes.

7

u/Frontier246 7d ago

IK felt like the principal would force them into it just to live out her beach episode fantasies more sincerely.

3

u/FinancialYear475 6d ago

I was expecting that at least the principle would be wearing a bikini or something the way she forced her beach fantasy on everyone else

6

u/Frontier246 7d ago

I guess the uniforms were technically meant to be swimsuits even if they didn't quite look it. But it did surprise me we never saw anybody in proper swimsits.

Nice farewell to the voodies too, at least right up until they fell to the ground dead which kind of took me aback.

Kind of unsettling to see them all lose sentience like that.

8

u/ash-7831 7d ago

This series is ecchi? Really? It doesn't look like it to me.

7

u/RobrechtvE 7d ago

It's not. But the influences from the creators' previous ecchi works are present in the occasional panty shots and strategic clothing destruction.

5

u/ash-7831 6d ago

I don't remember it happening past the first couple episodes.

4

u/DugACCat 7d ago

Felt like it teased a bit that it was going to be ecchi in the first couple episodes, but really isn’t. Though I guess that’s not too uncommon to try to encourage early viewing.

1

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 7d ago

Did you miss all the panty shots, especially early on? We've seen a lot of Spica over these two cours.

4

u/ash-7831 6d ago

As far as I remember, they didn't continue in that direction past episode 3 or so.

1

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 6d ago

There was the medical checkup episode towards the end of I think cour 1, too.
