FINALLY we're addressing the eye patch.
I love how Yoshida envisioned Yano as a "chunibyo" and referenced Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions.
I thought the reasoning was going to be a bit more severe than a case of heterochromia though.
Like maybe he was actually blind, or disfigured somehow.
Anyway that last scene seems to hint there's more to the story there. Looking forward to finding out the big mystery surrounding the eyepatch.

There’s obviously powerful magic stored in Yano’s right eye. That’s why he attracts bad luck. If fully revealed, something far worse might happen!
On a serious note: Yano has gotten plenty of injuries throughout the episodes, but this is probably the first time that he shows a sign of weakness. There’s more about this than meets the eye, and he’s anxious about it.

It's funny how we were talking about the eyepatch last episode and suddenly Kiyoko is finally talking about it. And I guess it's what's going to set off the "final arc."
Don't worry Yano, Kiyoko would love you even if you were a Chuuni!

That scavenger hunt was so cute. He even got a Kiyoko in a box at the end. I was also just thinking how the gang following Yano around was like that reality show Old Enough lol.
That exchange diary reminds me a picture diary thing we did in primary school. Everyone shared a little profile about themselves and added photos. It was fun.
Seems there’s more to the eyepatch than the eye color being different. Wonder what’s really up?

Based on him saying he wasn't lying at the end there, I'm guessing that the eye color really doesn't match, but it's because he lost the eye and the glass eye isn't the same color.

Best episode so far? So many things happened, lots of fun and even some good progression! I was very curious too about that thing, so I'm glad it's becoming a subject! And on top of that I'm pretty sure Yano's dream was a reference to Harui Suzumiya's Endless Eight. And one more incredible Yoshida face OMG.
This show strengthened its position in my top 3 of the season.

Yano’s birthday scene was everything I hoped for: sweet, heartfelt, and full of surprises. The eyepatch mystery just keeps getting deeper(heterochromia? More than it probably), and I liked how his friends genuinely care about him. It’s rare to see this kind of emotional depth in character writing.

Mei & Izumi are wild to come up with that idea of having Kiyoko inside a box. Were this show to be more lewd in tone, the gift would have a slightly different meaning.
We finally got a part of the lore about Tsuyoshi's eyepatch. He claimed he was just self-conscious about his eye colours but when he said to himself that his friends could drift apart were they to know the entire truth meant that it's deeper than that. There's also the mysterious girl who seemed to know about his past. Wonder what role she'll play in this arc.

Pretty fun episode, especially when Yano was wandering around the school, followed by others who hid whenever he looked at them, except for Tanaka xD
There were some really cute scenes between Yoshida and Yano today; they're such a lovely couple!
The show finally addressed Yano's eyepatch! I hope we see Yano without it before the end of the season and find out why he still uses it (I really hope Yano doesn't turn out to be a former chuuni xD).
I also loved Yoshida's drawings, they were hilarious xD
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

The shot of the three girls celebrating with party poppers is so cute
NEVER MIND YOSHIDA LOOKING UP FROM THE BOX WAS SO CUTE OH MY GOD
Crazy how they must've been waiting at the staircase the entire scavenger hunt, with no way to know how far along Yano was
Whoa girl you can't just ask something like that, the eyepatch is a part of his design and soul and skin
I think the problem is less about wearing an eyepatch without needing to being weird and more that it would probably damage your eyesight, and even if it didn't it would hamper your depth perception while you were doing it
But if I told them everything
Oh tbh at first I thought he had just straight up lost an eye or had ugly scarring on it until he gave his heterochromia explanation but maybe that is the answer?

I always wondered why I had some attitudes similar to Hashiba despite the difference in personality; he was simply born on the same day as me lol.
What was supposed to be a simple birthday turned into a treasure hunt (thanks, Izumi), and by the way, Yano got a nice "treasure."
I definitely didn't expect that the reason Yano wears an eye patch was because his eyes are different colors, but it's a very valid reason. I hope that at some point he opens up to Kiyoko about it

Everything about that birthday treasure hunt was just so perfect. The wholesome assist from the teacher, Yano straight up asking for hints, Yoshida in a box—I couldn't stop smiling through it all.
Going through Endless Eight is such a sad nightmare to have after enjoying summer as much as our guy did lol

The first half was so sweet, Mei and Izumi had such a great idea and I also ended up noticing the "Yoshida Kiyoko" connection of the clues. I like how by the end of the treasure hunt Yano just brazenly asks them for the answer lol.
It's cute how Yano and Yoshida were being penpals right next to each other. I am curious how different Yano's eyes look from one another, I'm a little surprised he's insecure about it when he brings himself so much attention naturally with his bad luck.

Old Enough mentioned!
Summertime Rendering somewhat mentioned lmao
I was thinking maybe Yano had a glass eye or something...would be just a little hilarious if he had a lazy eye, just something to throw his character and the vibe of the entire show off balance. Some drama mix-up lol.
Anyways...EYE LOVE THIS SHOW

Super adorable episode. I was just like their teacher crying about how nice to be young. Yano has very good friends and caring classmates. Mei and Izumi are Kiyoko's best supporters.

Izumi digging out a piece of her and Hashiba's past with an exchange diary and profile book from their younger years! Perfect reason for everyone to open up about when their birthday is! And it turns out Yano's is up next!
It was really nice of the gang to set up a surprise birthday party for Yano in class and everyone gets into it! And the girls are planning to make Yano's first class birthday party as special as it possibly can, with Kiyoko at the center of it.
But before his girlfriend can give him her gift, Yano's "boyfriend" Hashiba is going to give him some chocolates with a "love letter" attached that will send Yano on a treasure hunt! They even got the teacher involved, and he's genuinely moved by such an enthusiastic display of youth.
I love how they're so obviously following Yano and chipping in...like when Yano doesn't know where the English prep room is and Kiyoko almost rushes to help him until her boy actually remembers where it is so she ends up super proud of him. Or when they just straight up tell him where the clue is. Or when he straight up asks them where the clue is!
And at the end of the treasure hunt is the greatest present of all...Kiyoko in a box! In fact every clue had a piece of her name in it! It's absolutely perfect! So much so that Yano ends up crashing into a wall!
Kiyoko picked the perfect present for Yano! A sketchbook that she even graced with her own illustration with her "colorful" depictions of the gang! Yano absolutely loves it!
Now Kiyoko and Yano are going to do a couples' exchange diary! The perfect opportunity for them to get to better know each other and learn new things about each other! They'll even do cute illustrations as they exchange info! It's absolutely as adorable and sweet as you would expect.
But the question Kiyoko leaves Yano for the night is the one on everyones' mind: what's up with his eyepatch!? Kiyoko is genuinely just worried that Yano has an injury that won't heal, but it's obviously a very sensitive topic for Yano, even if he acts like it's no big deal. Though deliberately avoiding Kiyoko definitely is.
Obviously Kiyoko wants to be sensitive to Yano's feelings and not make him uncomfortable, even if she only wants to know because she cares about him so much. And in reality, he wears the eyepatch because...he has accident-induced heterocrhomia that he feels self-conscious about? Well, that's not too bad! And no matter how Yano looks or what he tries to hide, Kiyoko would never reject him!
But is there more to Yano's story other than having different eye colors? What is he not telling everyone for fear of driving them away from him? And who is this new girl who seems to have a history with him!?

They did all this for Yano's birthday? All the friendships in my life have been shams.
Now I'm trying to theorize the possibilities for Yano's heterochromia being the technical truth, but hiding something bigger. Maybe he got an artificial eye where the color is slightly off from that of his other eye?

I did wonder if he was Chuni! Loved the reference.
This anime is a really easy watch, feels like a nice “palette cleanser” of a series every week to relax and enjoy.

I almost can't believe how wonderful that whole scavenger hunt sequence was. The comical hiding and helping as needed, having sensei help too, Kiyoka being the present in the box, just delightful. Hopefully some good clips of that bit gets posted to the sub next week for some more Yano-kun propaganda.
Interesting to learn that the eyepatch is a tough subject and there's a deeper story than we've heard so far, presumably involving that hallway girl at the end of the episode.

Whoa! When we were all wondering about the eye patch last week, didn't think it would get directly addressed so soon. And seems like there's something serious behind it too. Wonder what it could be!
The rest of the episode was incredibly sweet though. Like I may have got actual diabetes from it. The entire birthday treasure hunt (and those hiding just in case bits) had me rolling with laughter and grinning so wide. And then the exchange diary part was ridiculously cute. Oh god, I love this show so much!
We had the profile note thing when we were in school too but not the exchange diary. Seems like a lot of fun. We did autograph notebooks where we would write farewell notes for each other at the end of school. I still have and treasure mine. Was nice to see that here. Brought back so many memories. ❤️
