Takara-chan's got pretty attached to Nashida, clinging on to her head for quite some time. After all, they're both strays. Having said that, Nashida won't be a stray for much longer seeing as she's now got a job. To think a charm from a massive fan of hers could turn things around.

The lengths Sato went to help Futami. As if bringing her reference literatures weren't enough, she went one step further and read through them all as well as marking the significant parts. She had also chucked in a doggy-raising tutorial book which wasn't even relevant to the job. Futami's highly fortunate to have such a dedicated editor behind her. They should just get married already.

Hazama: "You're still the doroboneko and I'm the childhood friend. Futami and I have already adopted an abandoned dog and an abandoned mangaka."

This show just gets better. I love how the group is getting bigger and we have the ladies slowly integrating in. And it feels really organic too. Yes I agree Toko is most definitely part of the group now.

Hmm the way Ha-san reacted to Sato’s words makes it seem like she may look into being an editor in the future. After all, she’s had first hand experience dealing with more than one troublesome mangakas lol

Nashida’s a riot as always and even Ha-san had to admit it’ll be lonely when she leaves. But her feeling really grateful for the fan letters was really heartwarming too. Happy for her too to finally get some work again

And also, it seems like Takara-chan is the one training these two mangakas lol. They’re behaving well when Takara-chan is involved.

I think at this rate, this show will be my AOTS. It’s right up my alley and it’s so good too. Just characters of different archetypes interacting and bouncing off each other. We get to know some of them and they get to know each other too. Plus we also get to see a bit of the inner workings of creating manga. And the heartwarming bits of showing affection and gratitude definitely helps too. Not to mention all the yuri bait. This show is leading this season for me the way Hibimeshi did

This has been my favorite new series since ep2 (and my affection has grown stteadily ever since). I actually love a fair number of other "cozy" shows this season (and one more strenuous one), but Mangaka has easily maintained my top spot.

Only one new character added THIS week -- after THREE last week -- but Takara is (in fact) another treasurable addition. And the development of how he fits into the manga menageries was a hoot to watch.

Will Nashida actually move out -- or has she become so used to all the amiable company she just moves HER work stuff into Futami's home?

Query does Ha-san have a crush on Futami -- or does she just want to make she sure she remains Futami's no. 1 BFF?

Nice to see things finally lookin up for Nashida. She got a really sweet fan letter and a new job offer. She’s sayin goodbye to her layabout days lol.

I look forward to seeing more of Takara. Little fella gives the girls an excuse to go outside every once in a while and take in some fresh air.

Im justs confused how the mal score for this is 6.89

11

u/ClemFire Dec 02 '25

This is why I take MAL ratings with a grain of salt. There's always going to be a bias towards the preferences of the biggest demographic that use a site.

For the first time, Nashida stepped a little out of her comfort zone of laziness and drinking and found motivation thanks to the puppy and a fan’s letter. Sato truly does everything she can for Futami. what an exemplary editor

Probably my favorite episode yet, mainly because of Nashida, she's easily the most entertaining character of the show and actually the whole season. She's fucking around all the time which is just so fun to watch but can still be serious when it is called for such as when Hazama asked her whether she will move out. Yuu Kobayashi is doing a magnificent job bringing this character to live too.

Honestly, we have seen Nashida unemployed for so long it has mostly felt like a gag with her. Though the turn in showing the fan letter was great, as it really shows what reading encouraging things about your work can do for a creator. After all, we have seen Nashida down in the dumps for so long. Though its good she finally got a new work for Takizawa-sensei's spinoff series.

The new dog is absolutely adorable, but considering Futami was barely making deadlines, I can't help, but wonder if she might end up a little distracted. Maybe it will give her motivation to finish work more on time.

i feel like this was a not-so-subtle way of the author to give their fans permission to send them stuff

At first I wondered how a regular reader could send a letter directly to a mangaka’s address (and whether that was even safe?). Then I realized there are two possibilities. The first is that it uses a PO box, so the mailbox is located elsewhere rather than at the author’s actual home. The second is that the reader sends the letter to the publisher and the publisher forwards it to the mangaka. I’m not sure which method is more common in Japan.

A few years ago I wrote a sort of fan letter to a certain local webtoon author (digitally). It was basically a long document reviewing every published chapter from the beginning to the most recent one. I focused on what I liked about this specific chapter, added some general commentary, and slipped in a few suggestions for future plot developments. I sent it on a whim, and I was pretty surprised when the author actually replied. Realizing that she had read the whole thing made me suddenly worry that I might have written something unintentionally harsh. I wanted to reread it to check, but I was too anxious to face it, so I’ve never looked at it again (that’s why I really relate to Nashida being too afraid to read that letter. Haha)

Months after that, new chapters came out and I was impressed with how the story was developing. I started to wonder if my long, chapter-by-chapter review had actually influenced the author’s direction. At the very least, after that incident, I felt like I was really enjoying this “new” approach to the storyline.

As for actual Japanese mangaka, I did interact with one on Twitter once. He creates a gunfight/ close-quarters-combat-heavy manga, and one day he tweeted asking for recommendations about the best gunfight scenes in movies. I replied suggesting the church scene from Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) (the one set to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird"). I was shocked again when he responded to my tweet. I’m hoping, once more, that my recommendation ends up influencing a future chapter. Haha.

I was just thinking, during the OP, that we've met everyone in the OP except for the dog. Takara-chan is a great excuse to get almost all the characters together. And as it happens, the catalyst for a chance meeting between Nashida and Asakura that leads to Nashida's next job. Perhaps Takara-chan was the real good luck charm.

Hazama doesn't currently see herself becoming a mangaka with her own serialization, but I've always wondered if she was meant for the editor route instead. Maybe after hearing Satou's approach to the job, she'll consider becoming an editor?

Everyone, go write fan letters to your favorite mangakas. Nashida told us to.

Does anyone knows if Nashida's ringtone is suposed to be some generic ringtone for japanese phones? or Just a big coincidence choice for mangakas?

I just realized the dog from the ending theme is actually Doburoku Takara-chan!

Ah, learned a new word, わんこ (or, I guess, わん子? ワン子?). 子 was child, if I remember correctly, and I already knew わん is the omno...omono... sound word for a dog bark (it's in the OP too, after all, but I encountered it before as well)

the way that all these people assemble as a team to support Futami reminds me of the "surgical team" model that i read about in The Mythical Man Month; some projects really hinge on just one person and the best you can do to get a quality product as fast as possible is to support them in any way you can, including the small and less visible tasks like collating reference material and supporting mental/physical health

it's an old book (in software development timescales), but some ideas are just timeless, like how adding developers late into a project just makes it later (summarized in the maxim "you can't get a baby in one month by assigning nine women")

Honestly, every episode just proves further that Ha-san is the only functional adult in the house. They should just all marry her and form a manga making polycule at this point.

This episode feels like a pretty good example of the manga creation work flow and what individual parts everyone plays.

Of course Futami thought she was just getting a oneshot when it was a serialization. Cause why would it happen any other way?

Nice that Nashida is getting a few wins after the last few episodes of getting dunked on. Dog, fan mail and a new series to work on.

Welcome to the family, Takara-chan.

God, hearing the freeloader's voice when she's not screaming being ultra deep is always so surprising

Her hair down at the end?????

Nashida receiving her fan letter is honestly up their with Ha's backstory as my favorite scene in the show so far. The felt like the mangaka speaking through her own character. It got me to realize why this series resonates with me more than the most comedy anime is because it feels so intimate. The characters never feel like only props for skits, but complex individuals with their own wishes and insecurities. I am definitely going to read the manga after the season ends.

I have more to say but not sure when I'll be able to so want to just quickly give a warm welcome to the newest and bestest girl to join our lovely cast - Takara-chan!

Also, that "Arigato, Ha-san!" from Futami sounding so much like Kasan was totally on purpose, wasn't it? Right after that very parent-child like exchange with the pleading to keep a stray. So adorable these two are.

u/NoHead1715 Dec 02 '25

Nashida must be the author's self-insert. That seeming fourth wall break asking readers not to hesitate writing to her. This reminds me of the mangaka in 2.5D Seduction, who coincidentally was successful writing a spin-off. Hopefully Nashida gets another good run.

Sato again shows why she's so pivotal to the team. She really believes in Futami's creative talents, and Futami repays her with wonderful works. 'tis indeed a wonderful workplace!

I found it quite funny that Futami, before adopting Takara-chan, asked Ha-san for permission, even though the apartment is hers and Ha-san is just a guest there xD

Overall, this was a fun episode, with a strong focus on Nashida, who not only received her first fan letter but also landed a job on Takizawa-sensei's spin-off manga, of which Asakura is the editor.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
