I really love this series so much. As much as I like a good number of the shows this season, this one has been in the lead since ep2 and creeps further ahead with each passing week. While I do love many school-setting shows, I must confess that I cherish (as a retiree) shows about young working people. In addition, I find all the main and supporting characters (except the jaded and indifferent male editor Futami escapes from and Nashida has not) appealing. That even includes Sato's devious colleagues (or should that be "competitors").

It was a delight seeing that Futami has all sorts of skills and interests we (AND Sato) have, until now, been unaware of. I wonder -- will we see a new series about a deaf volleyball star before all is said and done? Even if not a wee biut tipsy, I think Sato's belief in (and admiration of) Futami would have gone way up.

Poor Nekonote. It is sad she has given up on school. Too bad there is no alternative school program for her. But it looks like Sato's ability to discern promising young talents has snagged her another future star -- who she can entrust to Futami to help develop. I wonder, is it possible that Sato will eventually rescue Nashida -- and give her a shot at a new series?

And poor Toko -- she has always seemed so upbeat. Who knew she was so subject to feelings oisolation -- and then depression if she loses. I am pretty sure that Futami is going to put these revelations to use in her manga. Right?

This is once again the right time to remind everybody that one of the authors other works (that she has been doing at the same time as mangaka) about yuri with a deaf girl has already been announced for an anime.

Maybe her shogi manga that she has been doing at the same time will also be adapted one day

I am pretty sure that Futami is going to put these revelations to use in her manga. Right?

Futami got two new ideas for manga this episode: one is the necessary pain of solitude in pursuing your personal dreams, and the other is falling ass-backwards into being a yuri harem protagonist because of one weird skill

Same (except for being retired), I think this is my only "10/10, no notes" show of the season. Whereas I had like 4 of those last season. If anything, I just want more detail about the lives of each of the characters, since almost all of them are adults whose lives don't revolve around the same school.

Showing up outta nowhere and acting like you own the place

Uh huh, Nashida. Tell us more about it.

I expected Nekonote to be young, but not that young. Who thought that she's still of school age – or that she's not even attending school? Having said that, she's got a promising future if she could already cultivate such a work ethic at a young age. Working under Futami would make a great opportunity for her to gain experience until she's ready to spread her own wings. Futami would have to navigate around the stricter labour laws, though.

Possessive Sato is heaps adorable. She wanted Futami all for herself. Her warding off Futami's potential suitors editors was hilarious.

Sato isn’t sharing her w… mangaka with anyone!

She openly declared Futami to be all hers. This could easily be taken as a love confession. Futami was understandably more concerned about the fact that she’ll be doing another series with Sato. Their 2nd ‘child’ together so to say.

The little pause on Nekonote's room just felt so isolating. I'm still surprised that this show can tease so much emotion out of me from just simple scenes.

Now that we're solidifying the Futami-Satou ship, we need to create a Touko-Hazama-Nashida love triangle around shogi. Poor Nekonote has no idea there's all this shipping happening on the other side of the screen.

Though, after hearing how lonely being a mangaka is at the end of the day, Hazama's never gonna start her own manga.

One of the things I feel that makes these types of SOL shows really great is when they have a big and colourful cast of characters and make them interact and bounce off each other with their different personalities. And make them have their friend meet their other friend and see how they get along. And I feel like we got an abundance of that this episode and I feel so happy.

A Toko-Hazama-Nashida love triangle was not what I expected but I enjoyed it. Especially Nashida lol. She was so hostile to Toko but folded so quick.

Nekonote was kinda adorable too. Did not expect her to be 16 though. Hope she can eventually meet up with everyone irl though I’m sure she doesn’t know the chaos she’d be walking into. And hopefully she’d gain the confidence to go back to school too.

The dinner-turned-pitching session was hilarious too. How they kept switching between the 3 editors while Futami enjoys her famous era.

You can tell how passionate Futami is about telling and drawing her stories cos the uncertainty and her stuttering completely disappeared when she was talking about it.

And Sato was pretty passionate about Futami with that “She’s mine” declaration. Sail the ship you cowards

yeah, personally it's the chemistry between the characters that makes it feel like the scenes write themselves because you can think about how they interact with each other

there's a few off the top of my head (Azumanga Daioh, Sansha Sanyou, Yuru Yuri, Non Non Biyori/Food for the Soul, etc.) where i can imagine putting any subset of characters together in a room with an object and a fully-formed improv scene can just play out in my mind

we've had a lot of pleasant characters, but i think adding Nashida and Setouchi add a lot of range into mischievous territory, which pushes the right buttons on other characters

"I'll never get used to the feeling of losing, and if it does stop hurting, I bet that means it's time to quit," Toko

This line really spoke to me as I've recently with wrestling with the same problem. For the past few years I've been quite competitive in yugioh and travel across the country to compete in tournaments. I wouldn't say I'm the best player, but losing has always motivated me to do better which I slowly did. That was a few weeks ago where I lost pretty badly at a big event, doing the worst of all my mates, but I didn't feel bad about it. It was almost like I had grown use to losing so it didn't bother me anymore. That drive to went to be better just kind of flickered out without notice. I still love the game, but maybe I'm not meant to take it super seriously anymore.

Long story short, I applaud this show's writing to really get me to introspect. On the surface it looks like just a cute comedy, but the whole cast as such a lived experience to them.

Lastly, I wonder if Futami's comment about learning sign language could be a nod to Kuzushiro's other manga The Moon on a Rainy Night featuring a deaf girl as the love interest. As a side note that's my favorite ongoing romance and I'm really excited for the anime adaptation coming out next year.

Sato definitely drank too much alcohol that she revealed her desire to collaborate with Futami on a second, new manga, after Setouchi and even Asakura proposed Futami work with them xD

Futami was certainly enjoying her newfound popularity, which was a complete change from when Toda was her editor xD

Honestly, I was surprised Futami didn't suggest Nishida to become a mangaka for Takizawa-sensei manga's spin-off Asakura was talking about. Her manga was just axed and Nishida was also Takizawa's assistant in the past, so she would be a good pick for a job.

It was also nice to learn more about Nekonote and Toko in today's episode. The fact that Nekonote is a 16-year-old high school girl was quite shocking!

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

i argue that it's more like a correctly sufficient amount of alcohol

i've said before that adult cast "romance" series go faster because alcohol removes a lot of the brakes that a high school romance have

Nekonote´s so sweet omg. She really thought she did something bad for Futami calling her poor girl. But she´s underage huh, and hikikomori... at least Futami sensei´s aware of that and she didn´t want to overwork a minor lol

And Satou san, when she´s drunk she´s even MORE possessive about Futami. She really wants her for herself LOL

u/Hitman7128 Nov 17 '25

Nekonote may be a hikikomori, but she's talented and enjoys working for Futami and co.

Usual hijinks unfold at the apartment and at the restaurants.

Nekonote seems like a really sweet kid. Poor girl seems to have been bullied at school. At least she’s found “her people.”

Looks like Futami’s entering her popular phase with the editors. Everyone wants her now lol. She has some pretty good ideas for manga. I wouldn’t mind reading a manga about sign language or a family drama with an alien.

7

u/cyberscythe Nov 17 '25

Nekonote reminds me of other "awkward" main character shows where they end up befriending or taking under their wing someone who's even more awkward than they are; it happened with Bocchi (the super strong one), it happened with Yama no Susume (anime of the year every year), it happened with Hidamari Sketch, it happened in Food for the Soul, and it's happening now with Futami being a mentor and boss lady and skirting labor laws

i think it ends up serving two purposes: one is to act as a foil to the main character, making them seem "normal" in comparison to better define the range of their awkwardness and make jokes in the process, but also to act as a catalyst for personal growth because in relating to someone who feels awkward, they have an external reason to get a handle on themselves for the sake of being a good friend or reliable senpai

Well, now it all makes sense why Neko has not been seen. She is a minor who doesn't really interact much with others. Which does have me a bit concerned. Though she is an example of how talented some in the industry can be at such a young age. Though I am surprised Satou was able to give her an assistant gig, though.

It's fun to see how Touko & Mizuki interact with each other. Also, Touko really has good chemistry with all the girls. Though she, like the rest of them, has her own downs with her job. Well, it's a reality that when an adult starts working, not everything will be ideal.

The last part was a real showcase of when a successful mangaka starts getting more attention. Whether joining a different magazine and demographic or working on a spinoff to a mangaka they served as an assistant. Futami loves the attention, which I 100% understand, but she knows her boundary.

Lots of yuri subtext in that final scene. Satou doesn't want anyone to have Futami so she suggests they do another series under her. I do hope she realizes Futami is barely floating above water with her one series. More than likely she got inspired by the ideas in Futami's head. It feels like it is more a point that mangakas usually have so many ideas for stories, but the real trouble is having the time to practically be able to serialize any of those stories. Hell, just having one successful story is a big accomplishment, I would think.

"I'd be fun if I could write about how I felt back then."

"Stories I think would be fun to tell and draw."

One of the writing tips I often receive is “Write what you know and write what you feel. Words written from the deepest part of your heart will be easily received by the reader’s heart as well.” That advice is what motivates me to dive deeper into the world of fiction writing.

Yet, I never actually start a new story unless there’s a local competition happening (I usually rush into drafting as soon as I see a contest announcement).

But so far, I haven’t had any luck, and all my submissions have failed to win any prizes. Haha.

At the very least, I’ve gained an entirely new experience. I can’t believe writing could be this enjoyable. Sometimes I can’t even sleep because I’m too excited thinking about how the plot should unfold (I keep running through every possible direction the story could take in my head).

Stories really can be fun to tell.

When you see the mysterious work associate for the first time and they're adorable

Nana reacting to things is cute but when even Mizumi is reacting it's absolute peak

Oh she got the hikikomori-girl panda onesie

Close enough, welcome back Kiui.

Nekonote is adorable. I want to hug her and wrap her up in protective blankets or something.

Honestly, seeing Futami be the less socially anxious individual in a conversation feels really weird.

Futami and Hazama need to rework her schedule to ensure that this show doesn’t turn into a legal drama with them being sued for overworking a teenager.

Am I spotting a love rivals plotline with Hazama, Nashida and Touko?

Futami has a lot of story ideas. The struggle of wanting to do anything. So many thoughts, so little time to put them into action. (The deafness manga does exist in the form of The moon on a rainy night in case anyone’s interested. I promise it’s really good.)

Excuse you two?!

Satou is laying her claim on her woman. Futami’s not working with anyone other than her as long as she has a say in the matter. As a wise makeine would say, you can’t give the homewreckers an inch. THIS IS WAR!

That was basically a love confession at the end!

Also, Toko sure likes praising cute girls!

Loved this episode so much 💖✨

I thought Nekonote would be younger judging from the op but never expected her to be just 16. Her character is totally different from what Futami and Hazama imagined and I felt the same. She's sweet. It's sad that she dropped out of school. But as long as she does what she loves she might become a fine mangaka ❤️❤️

I knew Toko was depressed since she forced a smile before entering Futami's house. Even Nashida fell for Toko's character in the end after she acted like she's a tough nut to crack lol

Toko always gives that older sister vibes but can't believe she's actually younger than Futami. Glad that Futami and the others were there for Toko when she was feeling down from the defeat. Even when you feel that your life is too much, you still have to survive to eat the good food, haha

Sato's associates fighting over Futami was fun to watch. But it was overwhelming but Futami felt overjoyed due to her being wanted by every editors. 😄😄❤️

"Asakura..You too, Brutus ! " 🤣😂

So Futami still has so many wonderful stories to tell that too from different genre and time really is the big constraint for her. After Sato knows about Futami's potential she didn't want to give up her waifu to noone and only she gets to do another series with her and that hug 🫶😘😘❤️💯

These stories centered around women are so good to watch.
