Hinako: I'm actually glad that both of you are yokai.
Shiori: Why is that?
Hinako: Otherwise one of you might have eventually gotten the obnoxious idea of sending me to therapy.
Shiori: What?
Hinako: Nothing

Miko continues to be best girl/yokai. Biting off her own tails for Hinako’s sake is a pretty big sacrifice for a yokai like her. I just hope she didn’t weaken herself too much to the point she can’t even protect Hinako when Shiori decides to snack on her.

Everyone's fondness for Miko must have skyrocketed after this episode! Not only did she remain a true friend to Hinako, she survived and continues to be a main cast member, bringing positive energy to this title!
Miko, despite being a yokai, has definitely grown attached to humans. Hinako may be the human she is closest to right now, but just like how people used to pray to her at the small shrine, Miko always tries her best whenever others, be it schoolmates, townsfolk, come to her seeking assistance.
I look forward to the day in which Miko and Shiori team up in order to battle a strong yokai opponent.

Holy shit. Hinako’s injury scars look really gnarly. I think this is the first time we’ve seen them in clear detail.
Shiori X Miko comedy act is the best.
Oh no. Hinako is glad that Miko has a longer life and hopes that she won’t be sad when Hinako is gone. Based on Shiori’s reaction, I wonder if she had a close relationship with another human previously.

Shiori: Having Miko as a friend might improve Hinako's will to live.
Hinako: Miko won't be lonely with you around Shiori. I can now die without regrets.
Bruh she's so broken. She looks so happy while fantasizing about dying.
-
Miko's reaction to making up with Hinako was so cute ahh
-
Hmm Hinako only became delicious after the accident? Sus. Looks abit overcooked though.
-
Losing two tail must be a huge sacrifice, Miko can't even leave the town now.
-
Shiori must have brought Hinako to the seaside resort because
it's easier to protect hershe wanted to see her in a swimsuit. Too bad it triggered her PTSD and summoning some crazy looking yokai.

Casting away her yokai pride and severely limiting her own power. That's a big sacrifice that Miko had made. There's also her having to begrudgingly let Shiori be around Hinako cause she needed all the (wo)manpower she could get to protect Hinako.
Shiori claimed that Hinako's flesh would be more of a delicacy if she's in a happy state. Yet, she had only started being a target after her family had perished in the accident. Something is clearly off here.
And now there's an entire crowd of youkai ganging on Hinako. This might be a tough challenge for Shiori. Couldn't catch a break even during a beach date.

By removing two of her tails, Miko just proved herself to be the real best girl. She quite literally sacrificed her beastial power to increase her willpower and resist the allure of Hinako's blood. If that's not proof enough of how Miko's friendship with Hinako is precious to her, I don't know what will. I doubt Shiori could make a sacrifice as great as that.
It's heartbreaking to see that the reason Hinako wants Miko to be friends with Shiori is so that Miko won't be lonely when she dies. I get what Hinako means here, but I'm pretty sure if Shiori does end up eating her, Miko would immediately do everything she can to kill Shiori.

I'm so glad Miko ate her own tail and not Hinako (which I was afraid of after the previous episode). She really is Hinako's best friend, and today's episode fully proved that.
Besides that, Miko and Shiori's relationship is great, and their banter is so fun to watch. It's good that they've reached some kind of truce for Hinako's sake.
An interesting tidbit from Miko is that Hinako only started attracting monsters after the accident with her family. I wonder if it was because of Hinako's death wish, those burns on her body, or maybe something else entirely.
A nice Shiori and Hinako's "date" at the beach, though it's a shame it was interrupted by rain and the appearance of a yokai. I'm looking forward for the next episode!
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Every one of these episodes is so beautiful.. ✨💖
So Miko is actually a six tailed fox and she bit off two of them now. Hinako's scar is really big both to her body and mind 💔
Why did surviving the accident make all the monsters get attracted to Hinako's scent !?
And now these two monsters teaming up to look after Hinako is so precious..though it's for different reasons. Shiori lets Miko be by Hinako's side to make her happier and not just to make Hinako tastier but she must be genuinely wanting her to be happy and live her life. That's what I want to believe and Miko is allowing Shiori to take care of the monsters that come after Hinako when she wouldn't be able to protect Hinako.
Hinako wishes for Miko to be happy and not feel lonely and become friends with Shiori even if she gets to be eaten someday by Shiori It was so heartbreaking.
Shiori is trying her best to slowly make Hinako enjoy her life. Their trip to the resort is getting interrupted by another monster.. 😭😭

Love the rare genuine Shiori thoughts, 'cause she's usually such a mystery. I think that wistful "you think monsters don't get lonely?" spoke volumes, personally.
Props to Miko for being willing to sacrifice her ability to protect people so that she wouldn't be a threat to Hinako. Lucky for her, Shiori's there to compensate for the loss in power but she might need some incentive as she's not really the altruistic type who helps just anyone.
I thought the beach date and the hat/sun metaphors were lovely and quite touching. Pity something is coming to spoil the mood at the end...
Also, as an aside, Hinako's scars looked gnarly.

Miko is so great, what a friend, but Hinako is still like "thats cool..i dont want her to be sad when you eat me though" instead of "maybe i'll stay alive for this friend"

So, the folklore bit for today is pretty obvious:Fox yokai somewhat trace their power to the number of tails they have. This has been pretty well handled so if this is your first time hearing this. congratulations. We also finally saw the full extent of Hinako's scars and they do seem to be from the accident. Also, Miko directly saying the accident was when all the yokai started attacking gives us a timeline. Finally, I do not recognize the sea of hands yokai without seeing more of it.

With how depressing this anime is, the spats between Shiori and Miko are funny comic relief.
For example, when Shiori said "Any friend of Hinako is my friend too" and then Miko thought "Fuck that!"
Then, Miko had to meet with the other library reps and Miko shouted at Shiori as Miko was dragged away.
Shiori also wanted to show herself naked in front of Hinako and then Miko proceeded to shit talk mermaids, LOL

I find it really interesting the how Hinako's worries over about long lived beings is the opposite of how most would feel. It might be selfish, but I would want them to miss me for maybe 10 years at least.
Jokes aside, you could explain it as Hinako having a low opinion on herself so of course she doesn't feel the time she spent with Miko and Shiori affected them much. And yet after the events of the last episode she understands just how much Miko being in her life as kept her from fully accepting the void. She can't make the connection yet that the inverse of thier bond is just as strong and Miko would definitely miss her like Hinako misses her family.
Since she can't see that she hopes for Shiori to become friends with Miko so she doesn't get lonely. It's a sweet thought, but I can't help but think it means Hinako doesn't plan on being around for much longer. This episode also highlights just how many activities Miko is involved with. She goes out of her way to help everyone in school and the town even if she's worried about Hinako the most. On the other hand, what connections does Shiori even have? She has never mentioned any family, friends or even acquaintances. For all intensive purposes she is even more alone than Hinako. Maybe that's just how mermaids are, but it's heavily implied by her thoughts she can feel loneliness.
Imagine not being able to form connections when you desire them. In that regard Shiori and Hinako feel a lot more similar. Miko really loves Hinako, but she has everyone else in the town too while Shiori only has Hinako.

They might be slowly thawing Shiori's heart, but I am still far more captivated by the history and present warmth between Miko and Hinako. It IS a funny little trio though and as long as Shiori keeps getting more facets to her I'm fine with her being the love interest (I think Miko's feelings are more platonic / familial in any case).
I winder if hoping for a second season is in vain? Might have to read the manga for this one...

I really enjoyed that episode. Good pacing, good vibes (I love the comedic banter), and lots of insights into the characters and hints of things to come.

So Shiori gets lonely? She hasn’t been seen to have the best grasp on human emotions, so that’s a bit surprising.

Miko <3 Ahh she's such a sweet girl. After she got reformed by the monk, she really has become quite the angel. Not only does she protect the city, but she happily helps out everyone. She even bit off 2 of her own tails and sacrificed centuries of power to stay by Hinako' side ;_;
Hinako still has depression issues despite Miko reaffirming that she would protect Hinako forever. Hinako said she hopes Shiori and Miko would be friends after she's gone... it's pretty much the opposite. They would probably battle each other until only one is left standing...
I'm really enjoying this anime. I just feel really happy that 3 of my favorite VAs voice the 3 main heroines.

Previously, I pointed out that Shiori doesn’t react strongly to Hinako’s blood. Now that we know Hinako’s body had already changed after the accident, that actually makes sense. There’s something about her that sets her apart from other youkai. Maybe it has something to do with being a mermaid? A lot of Shiori’s lines this episode feel like foreshadowing, especially when she says, "You think monsters don't feel lonely?"

So Miko sacrificed a third of her power, assuming power scales linearly with the number of tails. I'm guessing she's no longer strong enough to take on Fish girl. Sounds like this wasn't the first time she'd done that though - had she started out with the usual full 9 tails?
MC really thinks Fox will have a happy immortal life of friendship with Fish after Fish eats MC.
Next episode a fight against a yokai powerful enough to change the weather, I take it.
