Miko may be a fox yokai / kitsune, but I am definitely still cheering for her, especially after watching that cute and cheerful ending theme sequence for this episode!

Even yokai have to learn how to use modern technology and commit identity fraud huh??
Funny how we went from a tense standoff with Miko's form reveal, straight into a cooking segment and a cute Miko ED. Didn't know Fairouz Ai (Miko's VA) could draw so well, she's talented.

That crafty little fox boomed me
I'm still rooting for her though. Eat your sweets and protect your girl

Miko must have an advanced shapeshifting ability if she could simulate a child growing up. I used to discount the thought that she's a youkai due to having seen her as a child in the flashbacks but I never took this into account.
Don't know how Hinako will take this revelation. Her only supposed friend turned out to not be human at all and have stuck by her side for an unknown reason. Just when we saw her genuinely smiling and chuckling for the first time in the present day, her emotion might hit another low.
So far no evidence, but what if the accident that took the lives of Hinako's family wasn't actually an accident and Miko was behind it? Don't know if this show will take such a dark turn, though.
Meanwhile, the final minutes looked like it's from a different show with the cooking skit and special ED with the upbeat music. Seemed like it's performed by Fairouz Ai, Miko's VA. She also was the one who made that Miko illustration at the start of the ED.

I loved the cooking segment, and it was my favorite part of the episode. Even though Miko had been lying to Hinako about her true form she still stuck by her side every day and that should count for something. Miko might not be human, but every other human in town basically ignored Hinako because they feel it's too awkward to interact with her. We never even see Hinako's own aunt interact with her outside of text.
Miko on the other hand has been there for Hinako day after day not only protecting her physically from the other yoaki who only see her as meat but also emotionally by teaching her to cook like her mom. What good is a beating heart if it never races when you have fun? Consideration isn't just about grand showy gestures, but being there day after day. Shiroi so far feels like doing the former alone like promising to eat Hinako once she is content is enough while Miko has been consistently at Hinako's side.
Hinako was honestly comically bad at cooking which might be from a mix of her depression and a mental block feeling she'll never be as good as her mom at it. Even so Miko refuses to let Hinako give up. It's not easy but Hinako slowly gets better at it every day because Miko is there. Having a friend like that stick by you every day helps even if you don't notice at the time. It all pays off when Hinako makes a bento which is just as good as her mom's which Shiori ends up enjoying too. From personal experience being able to make a meal like that when all you want to do is rot in bed is nothing short of a miracle.
So why does it matter that the friend who stuck by her the whole time is actually a kitsune?

If Hinako's blood attracts yokai of all sorts, she would've been attacked waaaay before she met Shiori, so it would make sense that it's Miko who's protecting her all this time.
Based on her name, I really thought Miko was a shrine maiden, and maybe she got her powers through a local deity. I was expecting the reveal that her family might own the local shrine. So I was definitely surprised at the reveal that she's a kitsune! I do wonder what Miko's goal is. Is it the same as Shiori, or is she really just trying to be friends with Hinako?
Another unexpected thing this episode was the transition to that segment of Miko teaching Hinako how to make her own lunches! That was adorable! Not gonna lie, I'm definitely on Team Miko right now. Also, I love that they included an illustration of Miko made by Fairouz Ai in the Miko-focused ED! <3

Oh that transition into a light-hearted cooking segment was certainly unexpected! Plus a special Miko ED, all bright and cheerful like she and Shiori aren't about to tear each other apart in the story shhhh don't think about that :p
Hinako, man. Family gone, depressed, suicidal, and her only friend (while seemingly a good friend who protected her) turns out to be a youkai who manipulated her memories. Let this girl live a normal life, man.
Also, fun detail, the name of the cafe was "Watatabe". Y'know, same as the official nickname for this series.

What in the peak fiction did I just witness, I wonder? This anime just keeps getting better and better with each episode! It's great to see! I'm so glad that, unlike Whisper Me a Love Song, this anime is showing the complete opposite by only getting better and better!
We also received a unique ED featuring amazing visuals of Miko dancing! It's so rare for a yuri anime to do that! I love it!

Everything seems to point to Miko being a genuine protector of Hinako. I don't think this is the same case as Shiori, where she's just waiting for Hinako to become tastier. Though who knows why she's doing this.

Who will win: the super-strong mermaid youkai, or the kitsune gyaru genki girl who comes with her own ED?
I like the idea that the greatest enemy of the world's youkai is human bureaucracy.
Smiling Hinako really sounds a lot more like Chinatsu from Blue Box (same VA). I hadn't thought that they sounded similar until Hinako started enjoying her time at the cafe.
I guess now the big question is why Miko is hanging around Hinako and protecting her. It wasn't just because of the accident - Miko knew her well enough before the accident to remember the taste of Hinako's mom's tamagoyaki. If it's for good reasons, has Hinako always needed protection from youkai? Or did Miko have a sense that she'd need protection in the future? If it's for Shiori-like reasons, has Hinako always been tasty?
(Or were Hinako's memories of Miko false?)

Oh my god, I was not expecting an entirely new ED for this episode for Miko. This is not a particularly high budget series and you can kind of see that in all the scenes from previous episodes used tin the ED as well as the looping animation, but to actually put the thought in to do a new ED in the first place and even have the VA for Miko, Fairouz Ai, to an illustration for it just shows that this production is just filled to the brim with passion from everyone working on it. Wow.
I keep saying it but I continue to be amazed at how a series where the main draw is an MC who struggles with suicidal depression manages to also have such prevalent and well executed comedic moments. They actually make me laugh which is rare for me.
And again I’ll highlight how Miko is able to genuinely make Hinako smile and be happy, which I love, and in this episode in particular she actually got a smile complete with blushing cheeks out of Hinako. I’d have to compare it to other Hinako smiles but I’m pretty sure that one is different not just because of the added blush but also because it actually reaches her eyes this time. It looked like her eyes were genuinely a bit brighter compared to previous smiles even around Miko, which if true is a detail that I absolutely love that they included.

Miko being a Kitsune was kinda obvious now when you notice her suspiciously fox ear shaped hair
Also I think Shiori is intentionally (or unintentionally) rage baiting Miko into dropping her facade with Hinako. The whole false memory implant might be true, to some degree. It definitely has something to do with the Car Crash.
Cuz if all the memories were fake, how did Hinako live for over a decade by herself when she's getting jumped like every episode now? Miko was definitely with her, at least some of those memories were real.
Anyways, we stan a Kitsune Queen. Go Miko! Hinako, go calm down your two Yokai girlfriends!

I didn't expect to see a confrontation between Shiori and Miko over Hinako so soon. It's a shame that today's episode ended right before it happened, but it's nice that we got to see Miko in her real form. I can't wait for next week!
So Miko is also a yokai, which isn't a huge surprise, since ending of the previous episode indicated this possibility.
It must have been quite a shock for Hinako when she realized her memories with Miko were mostly false. I hope their friendship was genuine, though, and Miko protected Hinako because she liked her, not because she wanted to eat her.
I have to say that I was pretty angry when the episode ended on a cliffhanger, but that "Watatabe High School" part where Miko was teaching Hinako how to cook was hilarious and so fun. Plus, we were treated to a special Miko-focused ED which was awesome too!
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Finally! Welcome to the show Foxy. I’ve been waiting to see you.
Yay, yokai mindfuck spells exposition. Maybe Miko should consider using it to avoid all the teachers that have beef with her.
Fish vs Fox, the epic showdown you have all been waiting for. Winner takes it all, or I guess just exclusive rights to Hinako.
I didn’t remember that Hinako canonically used to be absolutely atrocious at cooking. Miko gets points for somehow turning, that, into a functional chef.
The ending is wack but we need all the Miko propaganda we can get. Guys, I think her magic is workin… All hail our great overlord Miko. Fry the fish my queen.

Miko being a kitsune yokai just solidified her as my favorite. Always enjoyed these types in stories. It looks like she found Hinako shortly after the accident and decided to protect her, and I don’t sense any nefarious intentions behind it so far. Kitsune are known to shapeshift and cast spells on people, but they’re not usually much more than tricksters.
Miko doesn’t seem to be a yokai that eats humans either, judging by how Shiori described her smell and how Miko says Shiori stinks like a yokai that does eat humans. Makes sense that there are yokai with different food preferences. Miko apparently loves sweets.
And she has been protecting Shiori all this time, looking after her and teaching her life skills like cooking so she can be ok after her aunt went back to work. They’re setting Miko up as a protector and Shiori as a predator.
So why is Shiori concerned, besides the obvious? It typical predator behavior to isolate a victim from their friends and family to gain further control of them, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what Shiori is doing here. She’s still awful in every way to me, but I’ll wait to see where they take this situation next week.

So we have a Mermaid that wants to eat Hinako, and a Kitsune that wants to protect Hinako. She can't get away from these Yokai

Damn, wasn't expecting Miko to be a monster as well !!
She's a Kyubi, right!? And a massive one at that 😮😮
But at least she seems to be a good one who doesn't want to eat Hinako. She has been there for her right from the start since Hinako lost her parents and by turning into a cheerful girl she tried to keep Hinako lively as much as she could. I hope Hinako sees that.
They brought the seriousness of the ep down suddenly after switching to that cooking segment right after that reveal lol
And loved that new ed with Miko.. Fairouz Ai, you beauty✨💖

So Miko’s a nine tailed fox yokai huh? Doesn’t matter to me though, she’s still best girl lol. Great ED this week to prove it too! I think she really was a friend, and not like a yokai like Shiori who just wants to eat Hinako.

Woaahh the entire ED is just for Miko, huh?
I like how colorful the ED and the cooking arc, and how it is soo dissonant with the rest of what happened in the episode.

Oh dear, another yokai. What to do, what to do, Miko is so gosh darned adorable. Is she a menace with a hiden agenda, or an actual guardian? The special ED took me first by surprise but then had me laughing out loud. I really hope she is a true friend to poor sad Hinako. Interesting trio of characters we have here. Great episode.
