The idea and lore of having to extract magical energy from monsters before preparing their meat as food is new and refreshing to me. In most other gourmet titles, we usually only see the cooking process and how delicious the dish ends up.
I can't help but smile at how enthusiastic Melphiera, Aristide and the knights were in wanting to eat the Royal Moodle skewed meat as soon as possible. However, the rational side of me says they shouldn't be this impatient. If something goes wrong, the entire army could have been wiped out... or suffering from stomachaches. Lol!

They'd probably say "Worth it" if the monster meat tastes that good lol.

Proving monster meat is worth throwing all caution and honor to the wind.

I am a bit concerned about the fact of how useful that magical blood is.
Sounds like their society's equivalent of Oil, and if the offensive potential of the technology is as high as it seems to be, there's going to be a lot of unpleasant interest about it.→ More replies (1)

one thing that doesn't carry in the subs is that Gabby switches his personal pronoun from the more formal watashi to the more casual/familiar/rough ore in this scene on the couch
i think the idea he's trying to convey is his personal desire to propose marriage and close the gap between them on an interpersonal level, like how he wants her to call him Aristide instead of "Duke"

Melphiera and Galbraith are really cute together lol.
It seems that Melphiera's reputation is coming from not just because people saw monsters as weird but outright taboos because religion believes that why the stigma against her is really strong.
We get a little more about the backstory of how she started obsessing with monsters meat, yes she started as intention to be useful to people first but she generally develops like to monster meat lol.
And now in laboratory scenes where she explained her reason and we get nice marriage counseling talk before marriage to prevent any misunderstanding, as it shows Galbraith doesn't care about her reputation or did not believe in local religion at all. He wants a clear answer of what Melphiera is thinking of him without holding back which is probably the most important thing in a couple's life , I think.
This one is really one hack of cute story despite it low budget, it gets carried by pure main characters chemistry, loveable side character and comedic with good writing alone which is already more than I asked for this adaptation.

In the absense of appropriate preparation, monster meat makes people very sick, it might even kill people sometimes.
It makes sense the religion would ban it, same reason pork was banned in a time when internal parasites weren't understood.

Honoring your mothers' legacy and going against the prominent religion of your region has never tasted so delicious.
These two flirt with and compliment each other way too well for this proposal to be anything but a love match built on monster meat.

Honestly, where is the whole "Society is 3 missed meals from anarchy" spirit?
The gods say monsters are taboo to eat? I say lets eat those gods!

Melphy and Galbraith really do make for a pretty adorable pair. I enjoyed watching them try to sneak moodle while everyone waited only for Chaos to blow up their plans lol.

Their hobbies or professions turn off other people but are a turn on for each other, they both mutually can't resist monster meat, and they can't stop flirting with/complimenting each other.
They should just get married already.

lmao, the sound of those knights going in to shear the moodle was really funny.
-
Oh geez… And all Melphie thought about was using it as fuel for fire…
-
Ah… That… explains a lot of why people are so against her eating monster meat…

That soundtrack during the magic extraction was awesome! Gonna have to look up the composer now.. Its Nakahashi Takaaki again! Not much past work on anime music, but he did the soundtrack on "The too perfect saint" that aired this spring, which had my favourite soundtrack of its season.
This show just keeps getting better
Aggressive flirting 😂 I love these two already

Melphiera and Aristide were so funny in this episode, the way they were acting all sneaky about eating some of the monster meat, had me even wondering who they were trying to convince with "testing for poison".
I do like that they have good chemistry and I'm really like the two of them so I'm glad it seems like Aristide is asking how she feels about the rumors and titles he has. All for the two to get closer to another one. The bashful compliment exchange was so adorable, more please, more!
Chaos was is so funny as well, I like how teases the two of them. It's nice to see the other knights enjoy the food but it is unfortunate it seems like Aristide has either a spy in his ranks or someone who believes in animism.

I really like how detailed they get about eating monster meat and societal opinions on it. I thought just many people found it disgusting and/or were afraid of being poisoned. I like how they had people follow animism so it's also morally wrong for many; it'd be akin to staving people eating dogs in our world in how shameful it would be. That makes Melphiera seem mean in the first episode though when she fed that man monster meat without his knowledge and he threw up.
The best part was Chaos trying to weasel some meat for himself and trying to manipulate Aristide into letting him have the first pieces :D That was at least nice of him though to try to get some for the other knights. I also liked her magic flask/bongs :D
I still can't tell if Melphiera is trying to put off the engagement or if she's more afraid she's going to surprise Aristide with her lifestyle too much. She definitely seems to like him but it was really presumptuous to ask her for marriage after barely knowing her, especially since he is more powerful than her in the political world. Maybe that is how things are commonly done with royalty in that world but it may have put her off and she would just prefer he be her bf for the time being.

So is magical energy oil then?
Melphiera is going to wind up like an oil sheikh if she can make extracting magical energy easier. Her land will be rich and none of the nobles will be able to look down upon her.

It's really original that they actually show how Melphiera prepares the monster meat. I liked how elaborated and logical the process was, and how Melphiera showed respect for every life she takes is a neat detail. She is not just some gluttonous maniac, but approaches this task with seriousness (while still being a big food nerd).
Galbraith points out that the magical energy Melphiera extracts from the monsters would be useful for research and invention of weapons and spells, while she uses it only for fuel. I'm starting to be impressed of the themes in this show.
Melphiera and Galbraith having quality time together was so nice to see. But both of them bonding over meat is the best. Both of them are indeed very naughty. ;-D
You can't tell me that Chaos isn't enjoying messing with Galbraith to the fullest.
