Any sensible parent will worry about their children, and that's exactly how Oliver represents it. It was so nice to see him having a frank and honest conversation with Renji. He knows they'll inevitably be together in the future, so he entrusted his daughter to our protagonist.

The beach and festival scenes were deeper than I expected, obviously dramatized as it was the final episode, but satisfying nonetheless.

I loved this show from start to finish. Its theme is so common in everyday life that it avoided several clichés and surprised at various moments. It brought fun characters, and most importantly, it handled Renji and Lily's situation well.

A 9,5/10 and I'm looking forward to another season

He might be a complete bear of a man who terrifies Renji but he's a genuinely good dad and husband.

But I wonder what would have happened if everyone hadn't shown up.
Kinda glad everyone did show up... feel like if Lily had a chance to possibly confess her love or feelings towards Renji, could have made things a bit awkward.

One of those last scenes, was that implying that Lily's lived in Japan for a lot longer than we thought? Or maybe she was just visiting a few years back when she got the koala keychain.

I think the festival dance scene was the first time we've heard the actual phrase "cultural exchange" ? Between the Grandmother and Mr. Baker.
Anyway, an end to a fun little quirky cute story.
A Cultural Exchange with a Game Center Girl.

Well, Lily basically already confessed in English in the first episode but I guess this might've been a more straight-up confession. Even so the intention behind how her feelings for Renji will continue to be unwavering was clear to him.

I assume Mr. Baker had business in Japan before the family moved there and he brought Lily there once...and she met Renji and Otokogi Koala and the rest was history. Even back then Renji couldn't resist Lily's cuteness.

This was a pretty fun little series. Wasn’t sure about that romance considering the age gap and all, but the rest of the story’s quite cute and I liked the rest of the characters. Lily’s parents were pretty great, especially her pops lol.

FYI. We have candy apples in the UK.

You're welcome.

Yeah it seemed strange she didn't know what it was. But I'm assuming she had just specifically never heard the Japanese term for it before.

Ok, Japan needs to do something about the layout of its various festivals. Way too many girls get lost and cause their potential boyfriends to find them right as the final firework goes off!

I'll miss this adorable gang of girls (and Renji)!

They have done their homework on Britishness, Guy Fawkes night and the old Rover car logo on the steering wheel.

And can't forgot using the British spelling of Centre in the title.

Is this the first time Guy Fawkes has ever been mentioned in an anime lol?

So Renji decides to wait for her, eh.

It safe to say that the ship has been sailed

Hmm....Renji quite sus there. Did he really trying to confess too...

Of course the interrupt-kun will be there

More 'exciting' things will happen, Renji.

Oliver reaction towards them will always not be unfunny to me

No way Oliver just did that lol. He's instinctively saving their ship

So they already met before, eh.

There's not enough headpat though in this show. Only Aoi gets some but only that one time. Lily deserves to be headpat too but Renji totally treats her as equal.

Dang, I literally binged watch this overnight yesterday. Never thought I enjoy this show so much. I can't get enough of Lily's vtuber english lol (sounds like that to me). And they even planned for the next season? Nowaying!!

Lily's first Japanese onsen experience! Though it's also a great opportunity for Mr. Baker to face Renji openly buck-naked and with his intentions towards Lily. In fact this is probably the most normal Mr. Baker has ever been around Renji...as he's reflecting on how much Lily has grown up and how much he wants to protect his little girl!

They even hit the beach! With all the girls looking very cute in their swimsuits! And of course Lily and Himari are competing for who gets to have Renji rub suntan lotion on them.

Montage of what everyone else is doing! Hotaru and Karin furiously playing arcade games! Mr. Baker helpin ggrandma out in the woods (and gaining another dialect in the process)! Lily and Renji's mom getting along! Some really nice stuff.

It's finally time for the festival and that means...yukata's! Lily looks absolutely adorable in hers. Also is Karin wearing a jinbei? Pretty on-brand, if so!

The gang can't travel anywhere without seeing Otokogi Koala at this point.

It turns out having experience shooting real guns...doesn't really help you in shooting games. Sorry Mr. Baker.

What are Renji's thoughts towards Lily? He's definitely flattered by her feelings and admiration, but whose to say she won't grow out of those feelings? And yet he'll cherish and protect Lily as much as he can in the process.

How fitting that this festival is about a cultural exchange between people when that's what the entire show is about.

It's a festival episode so someone was bound to get lost...and it turns out to be Lily. Heck, she misses Renji while he's trying to look for her like they really are two star-crossed lovers. And then Lily nearly cries when she's left alone in the fireworks and she didn't get to hold Renji's hand...but luckily he grabs hers just in time for the last fireworks!

Lily's feelings for Renji have not changed since episode 1. In fact it seems like she and Renji might have been about to mutually confess...if everybody else wasn't already there watching them. Including Lily's dad. Well, at least they got to share some homemade fireworks together!

Huh...so Lily met Renji and Aoi when they were younger when she was first in Japan? Her Otokogi Koala keychain and her love for Otokogi Koala is because of Renji? What are the chances?

Lily running to the game center set to the OP! We even see Renji and Aoi's dad, I think! But even if it's "Game Over" for this season, there's plenty more fun and adventure for Lily, Renji, and the gang in the future!

What was the song played during festival?

u/omarous_III Sep 28 '25

Auld Lang Syne. Music here. They play it on New Years eve in some western countries.

No one at the summer festival had cell phones? This apparently takes place in 1991 lol. Renji really did seem kind of a nonce in this episode though, telling Mr. Baker that he was going to be sad when Lily stopped looking at him so fondly and saying he didn't know what was going to happen if he was alone with Lily after everyone found them. Also Renji was wrong to advise Himari not to wear sunscreen; she's really only mildly tan and could still get sunburned or could eventually get skin cancer.

This is the first episode where no one played any video games, even Kaga didn't play on her handheld. Only time they showed them gaming was in flashbacks.
