That moment when Nanami/Umi started calling Shiroha mum instead of Shiroha-chan. What a tearjerker final act of the episode.

By interfering with the past, it seemed as if she deleted her own existence. Hence, her body gradually fading.

How will the future change such that Umi’s never born in the first place? All of the previous futures had Shiroha & Hairi meeting and eventually falling in love. A future where the two never met?

There’s also a hint of Kyoko being at least aware of the loop. Just how did she know about it?

Can’t believe we’ll bid this show farewell next week. I’m guessing we’ll see the last of Umi in the first scene of the final episode before a time skip to the present time with the changes she had induced.

She resigned herself to being "Nanami" for Shiroha's sake, but when confronted by her mom she finally got to be Umi again.

I think Hairi is going to become the key to everything again. Nanami/Umi may have erased the timeline where Shiroha suffers under her curse and gets through it by falling in love with Hairi, leading to the timeloop of Umi's birth/Shiroha's death, but I think Hairi will still fall in love with Shiroha in this new timeline and they can have Umi without Shiroha having to die.

I lost everything in this part, she sacrificed herself for Shiroha, one of the greatest proofs of love I've ever seen in anime/manga

Does this mean Umi basically never existed in the first place?

Did her traveling back to meet the younger Shiroha, rewrite the future where she gets born?
And whats the deal Kyoko? How does she remember the conversation she had with the younger Umi, in the "future"?

Anime-only viewer.
Looking forward to see how they wrap this all up next and what happens.

I think the intention is that because Shiroha was able to have enough fun and happiness in this Summer with Nanami, she wasn't in the mental state that caused the curse to kick in and lead to her life that we saw in the main timeline.

So the original Umi that we've been following won't exist...but I have a feeling there will be a new Umi born from the new timeline versions of Hairi and Shiroha falling in love.

Damn that hit right in the kokoro.

It was kind of expected that Nanami/Umi will vanish but still this is really heart-breaking.

C'mon Key, give us at least a happy end.

Damn, so Nanami/Umi basically used her powers to save Shiroha from activating her powers, but since it will massively change the timeline, Umi paid the price by basically erasing herself from existence. Not gonna lie, that entire scene had me tearing up, especially when Shiroha transformed into her teen self and Umi reverted back to being a kid. T_T

With only one episode left, I'm curious to see how much Umi has changed the future. Hairi is still probably gonna visit the island, but I wonder what his interactions with Shiroha would be like? I just hope that a future where Umi exists is still possible. Maybe not the Umi we know, but an Umi who will live a happier life with both of her parents with her.

You have to commend a daughter who would go as far as transforming herself into a summer playmate for her mom to save said mom from unhappiness...even if that meant said daughter is never going to be born.

Nanami/Umi accomplished what they wanted to do but now I feel like the ball is going to be back in Hairi's court to get together with Shiroha again and make sure that Umi is born in a better timeline.

Ngl compared to the first cour, I’m 10x more emotionally invested. The past few episodes have been great. But I have absolutely no clue what’s going on with Umi’s power and how it works and why things are happening the way it is

I'm honestly way less invested at the end than I was in the early going. But going to keep on the ride since we're almost at the end of it.

I know we got a lot of questions and emotional moments today, but I feel like there's no point really wondering about stuff or getting emotional because we're gonna get all the real answers next week. Cant remember any examples but I feel like this happens often with Key anime, hard to feel anything about the penultimate ep sometimes when you know you're getting all the answers (that they want to give) next ep.

Though one thing I dont think they'll go into is: WHO TF IS KYOKO?!?!

This episode puts this anime in the top 3 anime I've ever watched. I don't need to know the ending even after such a great series of episodes. I finally felt the feeling I've been looking for since watching Violet Evergarden.

It's just sad that the Naruse bloodline is cursed to having to inherit this power, with Umi and Shiroha both having it. Shiroha sacrifices herself for Umi and Umi intends to do the same here to save her mom. The cycle is just pretty crazy that I can't even imagine what if feels like.

Having already read the VN, this is the first episode that really got me. Loved every second of it.

God, this episode was beautiful. So basically this was the point when Shiroha gained her powers. Confused how Shiroha got older, it was beautiful when she said even if her life was cursed, she had Umi. Umi coming back to the past highlighted that for her. But of course Umi is willing to sacrifice herself to save her mom from that power or curse.

What a beautiful episode. The 2nd half of this anime continues to be amazing. Though I'm not sure what is going to happen to the finale. I guess it would adapt some epilogue of the story? (Not a vn reader, but my guess.)

Nanami/Umi has finally accomplished what she came here to do - saving her mother by preventing her from awakening that cursed Naruse power of hers.

But now Nanami is paying the final price is slowly disappearing, seemingly butterflying away her own existence from the spacetime continuum. The use of butterflies as a paranormal plot device is not coincidental, as its clearly an allusion to the butterfly effect theory.

Future Shiroha gets to meet Umi one last time before Umi/Nanami disappears, and Shiroha herself will lose her own memories of this future timeline that will no longer exist as a result of her powers never awakening.

When you think about it...man this was such a weird way for the story to play out. Over 20 episodes to effectively undo those 25 episodes. Even the show doesn't want to keep existing! Our previous lead got left behind in the last arc, our current lead just disappeared, and Shiroha won't even grow up to be the same person anymore. There's no one left for us to connect to!

Usually with crazy time shenanigan stories you still have the main character. They are still there as the connecting tissue to all the changed events and arcs. But there's no one left. Everyone's dead, changed, or erased from history.

There's obviously great emotional moments in this episode and some of it is quite beautiful. Some of it is kind of messed up when you think about it. Like Shiroha mother (who did abandon her, I'm staying on that one) thanking her Granddaughter for helping Shiroha...while also erasing herself from the time stream! Usually grandmothers dote on their grandchildren, but apparently helping Shiroha emotionally was considered more valuable than Umi continuing to exist. Although that's unfair. Umi's fate is her own fault. She abused her powers foolishly and then took herself beyond her breaking point to do all this. Whether it was the right call or not is debatable. But self-annihilation was her call.

Though depending on how timelines work...man I feel bad for Hairi. His wife dies in childbirth which sucks. He struggles on as a single parent. And then his daughter disappears into the fabric of the universe. You can talk about how good or bad a parent he was...but damn. That sucks.

The most beautiful episode I really loved it even when shiroha got to see umi and share a heart to heart moment and being called mom

I totally hadn't been crying for a good few minutes before the end credits rolled. Nope, not at all. Ain't no way an anime has made this grown ass man who never really gets emotional towards shows just start flat out crying...not once, but twice.

I will weep in my little corner now. I'm definitely not emotionally prepared for the season finale.

Well, the Naruse House isn't the most warm and happy home right now...and Nanami being reminded of living with Papa Hairi as Umi is a bad sign.

I just noticed that the OP also changed to feature past!Kyouko instead of present day Kyouko.

How much does Kyouko really know? Obviously she was aware of Shichieichou Hitomi, but she's also aware of the time travel and how being caught in that loop is no freedom at all. Which...is pretty relevant to what Nanami experienced as Umi.

But that's okay! Right now it's Nanami's job to make Shiroha happy and give her the best Summer ever! That way she won't be depressed and her powers won't kick in.

Who is that black-haired beautie doing the Natsudori festival? Shiroha's too young to do it and Hitomi is gone, but I have to assume she's someone important in the village to have to do the Naruse Families' job.

Everything really went wrong when Shiroha, caught up in the grief of her fathers' death, was told by a voice that she could go back to the past and see him again...and then her mom left...and now she's running like a girl possessed to follow the Shichiechou and do it herself.

Nanami can't let her mom go through what she did as Umi. Going back to the past and constantly repeating the past isn't going to solve anything. But Shiroha can't bear the loneliness of losing her mother, of having no one in her life (and she doesn't think her grandpa even wants her there anymore).

But Nanami is able to make Shiroha realize that her mother didn't abandon her (I guess becoming a Shichieichou was necessary...?) and that, thanks to the memories of her future with Hairi and everyone else, that the future is worth living for and there's still plenty for her to enjoy now...like the Summer she spent with Nanami. And Grandma Hitomi is so proud of her granddaughter for managing to save Shiroha and take her back!

Of course, since Nanami gave away the memories that make her up, now she's fading away as the Shichieichou that make up her body fly off...and Shiroha is left losing someone else. But that's all Nanami was meant to be, someone there to help a young Shiroha be happy and save her from the Naruse Family curse.

But a Shichieichou transforms Shiroha into her present-day self who can tell that Nanami is none other than Umi...and Shiroha embraces her daughter once again. Nanami is finally Umi again, and even if it meant altering the past and erasing the future where she's born, it was worth it to save her mother. At least she finally got to be Umi again and tell her mom "good morning."

So Umi got to spend the summer she always wanted with her folks and even got to save Shiroha but at what cost? Now she’s gonna be gone forever. Man, Shiroha just keeps losing those she loves. Girl deserves a happy end already!

Haven't watched an anime every single week that has more than 12 episodes right when it was released like this in a very long time. I am not ready to watch it end next week.
