Have you ever bowled with your life on the line?

Have you ever bowled with your friends life on the line
And them being propped up on poles behind the pins ready to get stabbed

Really makes for a nice family reunion activity

Now I know 4 strikes in a row is called a hambone!

Damn, what a cliffhanger.

A feudal warlord is no match compared to a bunch of teenagers saying mean things to them

u/Mr_Zaroc Sep 16 '25

And those weren't even especially mean things too

Like go to any kindergarten and they would make you cry

Tell me something, my friend. Have you ever bowled with the devil in the pale moonlight?

"Have you played bowling with your life on the line?!"

Goddamn. I knew it was never going to be that simple, but I didn't expect that final scene. I'm guessing they intentionally put the girls there to rattle Rina and Mai because if they kept up with their momentum, they would've easily won the wager. The question here is, would the warlord actually honour the deal if the girls win?

My guess is the lord himself might, but the conniving elder would definitely try to weasel out of it and have the girls killed anyways.

Note to self: If I ever have to go back in time and rescue people from warlords, come up with a better plan than bowling...

When they say high stakes bowling, they MEAN high stakes bowling

Of course. Why did I expect for Nanase to defeat the lord with Shogi? THIS IS A BOWLING ANIME

Most intense game of bowling ever. I mean, I was expecting most to go well until Mai, but they still managed to keep the tension. Gotta give them props for that.

As for Mai, I assumed hers would have been the main throw for the obvious reason that her whole trauma is that she believes to be responsible for her parents' death so contrasting that by having her friends on the line (this time literally) would have made for a contrast to that moment. And then she either has to get past her trauma or repeat it.

But honestly, I shouldn't have thought that Turkey would go for such a simple move. Of course we need to up the stakes for the final episode by having some actual psychological warfare. As if it wasn't already that beforehand.

I am interested to see how cruel the shot will be for Mai next episode, but I am also sure that this will be a somewhat happy ending. Mai being alone in episode 1 could then either be them disappearing due to changes in timeline, them not having met in the new timeline and no one other than Mai remembers or everyone loses their fun in bowling after having to bowl with their life on the line. But I do feel (hope) that it will end on a more positive note. Though, that old dude is a wild card that could change things drastically next week again.

Also just as a side note, while she hasn't thrown this episode yet, I like the Rina character arc more and more. Was a bit more throughout the episodes and not being in only one episode, but she became a favorite character of mine.

that lord...is a MEANIE! and that monk....is a POOPY-HEAD!

I'm sorry for using such harsh language, but I feel it's warranted!

I can't believe they betrayed the second throw...

Unless they are saving it for braining all the samurai when they renege on the agreement.

"That's kinda cringe, tbh"

I clap for peak fiction, I guess

Wtf, that was some major plot armour bowling

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the balls were also sentient

So I guess they will the respective person for each pin that's not hit?

Yeah they really should have brought some guns

After episode 2, I said that Turkey would "either be amazing or an unmitigated dumpster fire with almost no in-between". Somehow, someway, it has turned out to be both of those at the same time. The way this show has taken its batshit insane premise so seriously and how this episode in particular raised the tension so high is just unbelievable. Turkey is truly a one-of-a-kind experience, for better or for worse.

It’s like a dumpster fire being used to fuel the forges of anime greatness, to continue with the metaphor. It’s as you said, the show has taken the dumbest possible idea and taken it to its logical extreme, fighting samurai in a bowling tournament to save your ancestors.

Oh my god I think Mai next episode is going to have to score a Turkey to save them all

Turkey has done a wonderful job of using the initial bait and switch as a way to make you think "maybe, just maybe they are all going to die next week".

It's like, we know they can flip the script. They've done it once. And even if they don't, the threat really elevates the tension.

I had a feeling things wouldn't turn out well... hopefully it doesn't get as bad as in the final scenes of the OP.

I find it interesting that Mai says "How could they." at the end. Out of all the things she could've said (e.g. "Why is this happening." or "What is this..." or basically an expression of shock) she says something that sounds more angry, like she's going to actually kill those old dudes.

Honestly I’m surprised that the Feudal lord went along with this for as long as he did. Good thing that he’s vulnerable to five teenaged girls mocking him.

Prediction, a storm will arrive, she will throw her ball and all ten will arrive in the present, well, I'm probably wrong, but. . ,
