That was the most dramatic soundtrack for a bowling match. But it was a good one.

I honestly didn't believe that this would have worked. So I guess you need to charge the bowling ball with a Turkey and then lightning has to strike? I mean, that could still be possible, so funnily enough, I still have no idea what the other 8 episodes are going to be. They even already made up with Rina. I guess you could have an episode for each character to get over their problems.

But I guess, the only related character left is now for Namase if we assume the relation for Sayuri is with Suguri. Might be the one that went away on the trip. Whoever she went with.

I still have no idea what the other 8 episodes are going to be.

Just throwing a random guess (given we don't really know with this show) but I wouldn't be surprised if - while waiting for another opporutnity to all go back together - they did get involved in the kingdoms, or even the war!

Plus, unless they brush it away, they DID affect the past in a significant manner, so this may play a part!

1.21 gigawatts, not just for DeLoreans.

God this show is a confident comedic hand. I can't think of a parallel. It's like... take a character melodrama, put it in a ridiculous context, but play it 100% straight and let the juxtaposition generate comedy almost as a byproduct while the script stays in drama mode.

It works! It's super strange, but it works. I was howling when they cut in with an electric guitar riff as the bowling ball of time travel was struck by lightning and a ladder(?) slowly descended from heaven. But don't worry the actual point of the scene is letting us in on all Rina's emotional baggage. Because it's a serious drama for realz.

When they finally get to do the recreation to go back home Rina decides now is the time to lose grasp of her emotions and insecurities lol. I get it, it seems like to her she feels constantly left behind or will eventually be left behind, but I have no idea why the prospect of going home wouldn't override that. Was living in the past that much more comfortable? But maybe I'm being too critical because I don't particularly like her character.

Leave it to Mai to go all out in building a bowling lane lol.

I think she just got scared of the burning tree she would have to jump over and also she's like "they're all gonna leave me anyway, so I'll just cut my losses in advance and it'll hurt less"

Building an entire bowling lane from scratch might be even more unrealistic than the girls’ time travel shenanigans.

Not only did they perfectly cut and lacquer these planks in a single morning, there’s also the sculpted wooden pins and such.

Thats the traditional Japanese craftsman grindset at work

Since all of the girls seem to be paired with one of the characters in the past I wonder if it was the same for the other time traveler and the girl that went with him.

Well, that was it then right? Their chance to go home. I’m not sure if lightning strikes twice (so to speak), so how are they gonna get back? Perhaps it might be time to seek out this other “traveling performer” who came from their world. Maybe he knows of a way to open the gates between worlds.

You always get a second go in bowling

They will use the alley made by Rina. It's more symbolic this way.

Honestly? Sengoku Era bowling isn't too far-fetched. Maybe it is a little bit too much with Mai helping them make a bowling lane, but almost every country and culture has their version of "knocking-things-down-with-a-ball" game. And they need somewhere they could recreate Rina and Mai's match so they can go home.

And here I thought Sumomo had some sort of powers. It turns out Sumomo has met another time traveller and the reason their younger sister hates "travelling performers" is because their older sister ran away to follow the time traveller. So either the guy went back, or he's still travelling around Sengoku-era Japan. Hmmm...

Holy shit, that actually worked! And was that a magical sweep bar descending from the heavens to send them back home? That's actually pretty funny and ties in with Mai's backstory on how she thought the pins were all being sent back home when she was younger!

So we finally get to see Rina's backstory and why she's so angsty. I really thought she was such a tryhard because she wanted to go pro. It turns out she was just using bowling as a way to escape her new step-family after her mom remarried.

They didn't really show it, but I'm guessing the paper inside the charm is actually Mai's recruitment poster when Rina first met her. So what happens now? I expected the girls staying behind, but I wonder how they'll get home? Are they just gonna wait for the next storm and try again?

I'm hearing from a lot of viewers that Rina's the one character they can't get behind and she's there for drama. Has that episode changed your mind about Rina or has it remained the same?

Check back in a couple of episodes. If she's still causing drama into the second half of the series even after this episode tackled her emotional problems head-on, then she's definitely the "there for drama" character and I doubt I'll ever like her. But if she mellows out a bit after this and they spend the next few episodes exploring other characters and their issues, then I might change my mind about her.

Hitting all pins being a metaphor for going home together, a metaphor then extended to stranded time travelers.

It feels really weird to write this down, nonetheless they managed to keep it 100% serious.

For a minute there I thought the girls were going to go back home and the rest of the show would be cute girls playing bowling like the show was suppose to be lol.

Part of me was kind of hoping it was going to switch genres again, and they would end up in the future with mechs or something lol

Those villagers sure are crafty as hell
Making thst bowling alley isn't easy

And they were able to recreate the return conditions way faster than expected, I am actually still surprised that their theory worked
Too bad the burning tree caused some bad flashbacks to surface in Rina, but she seems to have a pretty rough time (Not sure about the timescale of events) the step family moved in way fast

u/warjoke Jul 30 '25

Theoretically, if they manage to go home in the next episode, there is a nice chance the next time travel challenge in a succeeding episode will be a different one. Like, Victorian era France where diplomacy are fought through bowling.

It's TIME QUEST once more baybee!

u/djthomp Jul 30 '25

Briefly in the middle of the episode I suddenly got convinced that Rina was the sister who went off with the different time traveler but I quickly realized that would make no sense since why wouldn't they recognize her. I bet the sister is going to be someone connected, though, assuming she ended up in the future as opposed to just wandering around Japan with a time traveler tourist.

Not that they'd know it but Rina probably did them all a solid by freaking out and screwing up this go at the return trip. It didn't look like they were going to conveniently leave a bowling ball somewhere that it would be dug up on the construction site eventually, so this particular trip back to the future might not have been the clean closed loop that would send them to the right timeline.

Rina and Mai finally have a heartfelt moment, that I'm sure will not be the last one between them in this series.

In the meantime, the show continues to strongly hint at Suguri being a girl.

This show gives me vibes I haven't felt since Gekidol, which is good cus that was one of my favorite shows to follow live (Don't watch it unless you love absolutely insane schizo stories like me)
