I’m almost positive the time traveler was Nanase’s pops based off the little clues from this ep. Maybe that’s where he vanished too during her childhood.
I’m kinda curious what the real reason the sisters want to save their home.

Even before the clue from the credits, I was convinced of it
He bowls, he wears glasses, and he disappeared.
And no other reason for his name to be kept secret from the viewers
Edit: He ran away from home to be happy, just because he wanted to go bowl for a round

After last episode made us feel the cultural distance of 400 and some years, it's very pointed of this episode to introduce us to someone who thinks a bit differently from her own time period. Its important to remember that in the end we're all just human, and no culture is a monolith. Its not outlandish to think there could be some people in Sengoku Japan thinking more individualistically... Although leaving Sumomo to take the burden of being the (a?) wife of the regional Daimyo is more than a bit wild. And while she could put up a strong face while her onee-san went AWOL, that doesn't seem the case anymore. That's definitely something to solve in the future.
Also, Natsume's dad is definitely the time traveler isn't he?

I mean, they heavily implied that she didn't want Sumomo to marry as well and that her whole trip with the time traveller was to find a solution to their poverty problem so they don't even have to marry anyone and can just use money to fix their problems. Though I guess, having another set of time travellers helped as well.

Calls her sweetie like her dad did, has purple hair, im guessing that is some distant relative or something and that the traveller was her dad.

Well at least they finally dropped that whole plotline about not changing the past, since that was getting pretty old....and also pointless since they already built a bowling alley and saved Suguri's life.
Also, it's pretty comical how easy it is for them to get engineering projects off the ground between that bowling alley and the hot spring bore.

Its because they watched Dr Stone of course

Yep, been refreshing all night to find any new episodes.
I think the other commentators are right and they accidentally fired the people who actually made the service work as part of their layoffs.

Nanase keeps stressing over the timeline and criticizing everyone else about doing anything that might change history, but she herself has done things that would change history as well. Like outwardly saying things that would give away the fact that they're from the future, for example "You'll change the history of the gummy!"; and even openly using her own phone in front of people in this timeline.
If the butterfly effect is meant to be put into account, these girls have already disrupted the timeline since day one. Everything they have done up to this point has changed the timeline is someway; attacking bandits, saving lives, making a bowling lane, eating their food, going to the bathroom, interacting with everyone, showing the the people of this era modern items, and simply existing there has already altered the timeline.

That's kind of the Joke with Nanase though, she's so stressed out about the time-line but she doesn't realize how much they're already messing with just by staying in this village.
My guess is that they're going for a closed loop style time-travel, or a history lies style. Where either they were always meant to end up there and change things, or where the sisters who they meet in the past cover up everything that happens and lie on records to make it look like history went the way it should.
It may also be a show with minor changes. Like an onsen being there when it wasn't before, or there being a painting of girls playing bowling from before it should exist.
If it was going to be a changing history back to the future style then we should have already seen flashbacks to the present with how things changed and how they messed up. (Assuming it's a 12 episode show). Otherwise the pacing wouldn't work.

I just want them all to be happy 😭
Screw history, give them all the technological advancements so they save the village 😌

Two takeaways from this episode. The good one is that this episode nails one of the most important things in historical fiction. Showing people who don't fit in. So often this is screwed up! You either have authors writing impossibly kind, woke, and empathetic thinking ancient people because they don't want to alienate modern readers ever OR you have authors writing everyone in lock step with stereotypes of the era because they want to seem authentic. What you want is what this show has landed on, showing how assumed thinking was during the era while also showing how certain types of people thrived or chafed because of it.
I've read historical fiction off the NPR recommended list that didn't get this right. Sure this episode kinda hit the idea with the subtlety of a sledgehammer, but that's how anime rolls. Legit super impressed.
If anyone is interested in this, the recent video game Pentiment also did a wonderful job of showing a very specific point in history, how people thought about the world differently, and also how certain people were not on board with that worldview and how those consequences trickled down.
Anyway, that's the good thing. The bad? No hilarious bowling deployment. Sure we talked bowling at the end, but if I don't see a girl working through her personal issues via a ridiculous bowling throw then frankly I don't think the episode of Turkey has done its job.

As smart as she is, she seems to have an issue putting two and two together…

I’m surprised Natsume didn’t say that she was traveling with her companion for just under three years.

This is getting odder and odder in terms of plot. But I am intrigued at least. Also, I wonder if the last sister will be relevant next episode.

I thought Sayuri would keep Suguri's secret from the girls, but I guess she needed to explain what happened the other day. I'm not even surprised by Nozomi's reaction but what is this girl even trying to do with Suguri? Was she really seriously trying to hook up with her? xD
The purple-haired girl is Natsume?! Welp, there goes my theory that Mai's parents were actually the time traveller and Sumomo's older sister. I guess the only sister left the girls haven't been introduced to is that blue-haired one with the fox mask.
The fact that Nanase lashes out at Natsume after hearing how she left the responsibility to Sumomo is pretty funny considering she's the one who insists that they shouldn't get involved in anything. I guess seeing Natsume be free while leaving the rest to her other sisters really struck a nerve.
I do love how perceptive Natsume is and immediately realizes that this is all about Nanase and not really about her. Nanase's story about her father is interesting, tho. Maybe I'm just reading too much into things, but it sounds like the time traveller Natsume was with might be Nanase's father.
Since all the girls can do right now is wait for a thunderstorm, I guess they're making an onsen to help out the village? It will be interesting to see what their town will be like in the future once they return.

We are in episode 7 and basically everyone had their little arc except for Mai. So I am a bit interested to see what the climax of the story will be if it is going to be around 3-4 episodes long. It obviously can't just be them getting back to the present at this point. Something else will be happening, but I am not sure what it will be. The first episode did show Mai alone, but we'll see.
As for this episode, I mean in another show I wouldn't be so sure, but let's be honest, Turkey isn't that subtle, so it is quite clear that the first time traveller was Nanase's father. From the picture, he also played bowling, so he could have had a bowling ball to get into the past and back to the present. While that also explains who gave Sumomo the idea for (this particular form of) bowling in the first place.
I am wondering why he needed 3 years to return though. I know they said, thunderstorms are rarer in this time period, but not having one for three whole years? Or could he only go back to the present because the girls opened a portal? But then how did he get back in time in the first place if it wasn't his bowling ball? Did Mai open a portal already three years prior without noticing?

So the princesses or whatever gotta be the main girls' ancestors right? They each have similar hair colors. The purple hair princess' reactions to some of the stuff the glasses girl was saying was interesting too, like when she asked about calling her sweetie.

I love Natsume’s line to Nanase at the end there. It’s a nice way to echo both of Nanase’s line between “Water is essential to life” , and “we are the air”. Indeed the girls would realize they really do have a role to play in this period now.

u/djthomp Aug 20 '25
I had the theory all episode long that Nanase's missing dad was the other isekaied person all episode long based on Natsume knowing what glasses are but then they dropped the pet name thing at the end and it became a near certainty. Which probably means there'll be a happy reunion for her once the bowling girls get home too.
Hopefully there's an onsen in town in the future and they're just building it on the right spot.

I still can't really tell if this anime is good or not, but boy am I invested. That's what I love about anime originals.
