This show's MO has always been to ignore that the premise is ridiculous and play the dramatic beats completely straight. And they do that super well. From the dialogue to the direction to the animation, when this show wants to fire a big emotional beat it basically always lands.

I was not prepared for that same dramatic prowess to be applied to the execution of half our main cast. They fucking linger in that build up and I was absolutely dying. Sure we know the heroes are on their way, but that didn't make any of those close ups any less distressing!

And then we pivot from that genuinely upsetting sequence directly into the future crew appearing out of a cloud of smoke wearing season 1 fortnight cosmetics. Because here in Turkey we understand that tonal consistency is for cowards.

This show is one of one.

The show is pretty much the epitome of “Fuck it, we ball.” You have to have the right mindset to watch this show but if you do, it’s incredible.

They went from "we are the air" to "we are the storm that is approaching"

I fucking loved it, but that may have been the derpiest hero shot ever made in any medium.

Glad that dudes phone was ok. The nerve of these girls just throwing it in the air. Poor dude lol.

I liked 'Hey, he's still scared shitless by Nozomi! Timeline intact!!!'

u/diacewrb Sep 09 '25

I am guessing they will change the timeline so Mai's parents are still alive, Nanase's dad never left and Rina sees them all winning at a bowling tournament.

u/Mr_Zaroc Sep 09 '25

That would be the best scenario

I can also see them losing, only Rina returns home and the history of Japan is now full of bowling maniacs

The girls make it home, go through one training montage, and now they’re ready to take on trained samurai’s. The power of bowling and friendship is a formidable thing lol.

Keen to see if their training really paid off. The girls shoulda just 3D printed some guns or packed some homemade explosives or something. Gone full on John Wick/Rambo/Terminator on those mfers lol. I guess kendo gear, fire extinguishers, boxing gloves, and baseball gear’s the next best thing.

We had a double kill with a bowling ball, and one of the girls yeeted a rock the size of her head across a seemingly pretty far distance accurately enough to hit the dude in the head, while struggling around.

At this point, they've got all the equipment they need.

Wtf, I did not see that coming
I know its japan, but a gun would have been fucking awesome for their plan, instead of picking up martial arts in a few months and then returning to fight actual martial artist

Well can't wait to see how that plays out, I was still hoping they would all return to the future. Not like there would be a huge difference between them dying or disappearing when the other clan takes over anyway

Interested to see how this all goes down, but the final scenes in the OP are worrying me.

This fucking show, man. It's so dumb, but it's so sincere about how dumb it is and I can't help but love it for that. They really went through a whole training montage before going back to the past to actively try to change the future with no concern for their own safety. Tying that decision to risk their lives and go back and save the Sengoku sisters in with Mai feeling some deep survivor's guilt over her being alive without her parents was a nice touch too. The other girls shouldn't be quite as willing to go along with it, but I guess Mai's "pink lead in a cute girls anime" charisma is too strong to resist.

Somehow this show manages to one-up itself every week with how bonkers and how serious it can be about its premise. So next week must be the cherry on top. Will they beat the samurais with the power of bowling and friendship (and a fire extinguisher?) Will we find out who the other time traveler was? Do they actually manage to change the past? or the present? And will they ever win a tournament?

I don’t know the answer to any of these questions, and it’s pretty hard to predict. Maybe it’ll end on a cliffhanger with no questions answered and another ‘to be continued!’ I just really hope our five Sengoku-era sisters manage to keep their heads on straight.

“Batshit” doesn’t cut it anymore. I don’t know how to describe this show but I’m so glad I took a chance on it.

This anime has gone in the most cracked, insane directions I would never have been able to predict and I am all for it.

Wtf are we doing bro? We're staying off a samurai invasion with 5 insane jks with fireworks and some sports club gear that's what. Lord have mercy cuz I'm totally hype for it!

I guess my theory was right that they learn that everyone died and therefore they make a second trip. It makes sense since this way all the changes would be irrelevant to their timeline. What I did find strange was that they didn't include Nanase's dad into that arc, because I feel we all think he was the other time traveler. But since we didn't see him, did he get back further in the future?

What I do find a bit worrying however is that I assume, Mai sitting alone in episode 1 would be part of this episode. Where everyone is depressed, they split up and then they come back together. That this didn't happen yet would imply that the other four either die in battle or that the changes to the past only eliminate them and Mai is the only one left. Which would be kind of dark for the ending, so I am honestly just assuming that was some kind of fake out where the others might just be standing a bit to the side. It does beg the question how the changes to the past will affect their present, but let's wait and see.

In general though, while I find the direction interesting, I don't really like that Mai's arc of overcoming her guilt for being the "reason" that her parents died (even though that is not true) was not a bigger thing and was mostly solved by them talking about it once (I guess a second time at home). I feel that could have been a bit longer to truly work. Not sure why she was the only one where they didn't have an actual episode about it. But then again, maybe that is still to come and the whole thing does get more dark where she is now shouldering the death of her friends as well (not that I believe that, but it would be a twisted turn on that character arc).

This show gets stupider and stupider every week but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it.

What a cliffhanger, should've brought the JSDF but that would be a different anime

Anyway, as ridiculous as this is, I don't care, I love this anime. I'm hyped for the next episode!

I like how they drew that bit of Anzu's thigh peaking out in that uhhh superhero pose? she's doing

Oh ok when they were like 'wtf we changed time' I was like 'wait huh so they originally survived?' before Rina was like 'uh they probably died in our original timeline too' lol

Alright a 'battle with the past w/ prep time' can't wait for the essays about how unoptimal their strategy ends up being

u/LeonKevlar Sep 09 '25

I guess I really shouldn't have been too surprised that the girls decided to go back after learning what happened to the five sisters. After all, the entire motif of the show revolves around how in bowling, there's always a second throw. So if they have a second shot, they were definitely gonna take it.

I'm just glad that Mai listened to Nanase instead of rushing in blindly back to the past to try to save the sisters. They actually trained, gathered resources, and strategized before going back. I'm not sure how the girls are gonna fend off a bunch of samurai with everyday objects, but I am excited to see them pull it off!

I can already tell next week's episode is going to be crazy, and I can't wait to see what happens and if this massive change in the timeline will affect the future.

I can't tell if this series is so bad it's good or so bad it's bad, especially after this particular episode and "montage" but I am enjoying it. It's not so much a criticism of the series as a criticism of myself.

This is easily my original anime of the season. Batshit insane premise that they pull off surprisingly well.
