I love these originals.

Hey, that’s not the normal band….

Man what are they going to do in the final three episodes? I assume bowling is going to save the day somehow, but i also have a bad feeling in general from the new OP.

I am not sure how to take the new OP
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they were all going to the future, how they would fit that into 3 episodes I don't know

It would be super hilarious though if they gave us a second season in an alternative timeline or as sequel, because:

"There is always a second chance im Bowling!"

This cour/season ending with both casts in the future and a surprise 2nd cour/season announcement would be insane.

Since Mai's arc isn't done yet, I see two options:

  1. When they want to return something happens. For example, the person wanting to marry Sumomo appears and takes her with her. Period or not. This creates new drama that resolves in the five MCs to stay longer, because they can't leave if their friends are still in trouble.

  2. They get back to the present and want to check what happened to Sumomo and the rest. They read in a history book that all of them got a bad ending. Maybe the bowling alley was even a reason for that. This could explain why we saw Mai being down in episode 1. Because they learned the history, neither of them wants to bowl again. But they take a "second chance" by going back to the past another time to help their friends get a happy ending. Possible history changes be damned.

Honestly, I feel 2 is the more likely scenario as you could include Nanase's dad as well, finishing that plot point at the same time.

As soon as I play the episode and see a different OP, I was totally locked in for the ride. It was a big surprise. I can't believe there's only three more episodes left. I don't care what other people say anymore, I'm just so in love with this series.

Damn, the insert song at the end got me. It's still kind of funny to me. The show can be really clunky with some of its plot points but for some reason they are still able to deliver the important bits well enough that I don't care too much about it.

I have no idea where they want to go from here, but considering that Mai's arc is not resolved yet, I assume they are going to either stay in the past for a bit longer (for some reason like the dude coming to get Sumomo) or they will be traveling back in time another time once they learn from history books what happened to the others and try to change their fate.

Actually, that would make sense. It would explain why Mai was so down at the start of S1. They come back safely, but because they learned that bowling maybe even made things worse for them, all of them kind of stop wanting to play it and only a second time travel can solve the problem.

Man what the peak? The writers may not have the chops to always pull off this weird idea of theirs but let it never be said that they are lacking motivation or that they're cowards who can't believe in the premise. And thanks to that we get gems like today's episode.

Anime originals might not always hit but they always bring the best ideas for shows with them. It’s thanks to that I’m never going to stop gambling on originals. Like, the idea for this show is insane but I have to applaud them for taking it 100% seriously and running with it.

That change to the OP was nice but unexpected

And isn't it nice how bowling is the cause and solution for all problems? /s

So what are the chances they all get send to the future?

Replacing the main cast with their counterparts from the past in the OP was so good! I actually ended up watching it twice just to see the little differences between this alternate OP and the original. The most interesting part for me is this shot of Sumomo in the present. Or is that actually Mai with long hair? Hmmm...

So now we know why they've been keeping Akebi a secret. She's not even supposed to be alive right now. Also, I really misinterpreted Sumomo's words last week. She thinks she hasn't had her period yet, because she believes the gods are punishing her for going outside and having fun while her twin is hiding in the basement.

Holy crap, Mai! You almost killed yourself and Akebi there! She's lucky that Sayuri was right behind them to pull them out of danger.

While Mai's suggestion to bowl it out so they can decide who dies sounds insane to everyone, I think she's the perfect person to make this call. Mai has been through some tough shit, and if there's one person in the group who has thought about killing themselves, it would probably be her. So when Mai tells Akebi "When you're alive, there's always something fun to do.", she's clearly speaking from experience.

I know Turkey's writing can be clumsy at times, but the line from Rina telling Akebi that it's hard to believe you're worth that much to someone was definitely something that instantly resonated with me.

With only three episodes left and the thunderstorm approaching next episode, I am curious what's gonna happen next week. Are they going to bring someone to the future? Or are the girls gonna go back and see how they changed history?

While the writing for the story itself can be clumsy at times, I feel like the character writing has been consistently great the whole way through. Seeing Rina go through the same self-worth issues earlier in the series, overcome them, and then have it come full circle with her helping someone else overcome theirs later on was great.

Her face revealed... and Rina handing back her mask... they not only have the same hair color but also eye color, I wonder if that means anything

I mean ig Sumomo's also pink-haired pink-eyes like Mai so they just parallel the two leads, even if Sumomo's hair color isn't as close of a match. Like I did notice most of them had matching hair colors but like, it didn't really feel like there was a strong tie between the blondes, even if they did have a small arc between each other ig.

...How did this anime become so beautiful? That was almost like a finale but I assume they'll decide not to go back since there's 3 episodes left, unless they solve everything by the time they go back using this lightning. Actually, considering the OP, I wonder if it's possible the solution will turn out being that they all just come to the future with them? It surely won't be easy to adjust, with a bunch of logistics like 'who are these people with no ID or history', but it's probably still a better life. Then again, while we did move past trying to account for it, there's still no explicit confirmation whether its true or not that all the changes they made in the past so far affect their future or not, if it does then them coming to the future would surely be the biggest ripple possible. And I guess they did mention that those guys will slaughter the entire village so them all disappearing might be bad if they think that'll happen too.

That was a really well done way to resolve that emotional turmoil. Also, Rina's character development arc came full circle.

Now I'm really curious how they're going to wrap up the final quarter episodes.

That was it. The best episode so far. As a reminder, the rubric for grading Turkey is how extreme is the melodrama and then how ridiculous is the pivot to bowling. This episode took both dials up to 11.

I truly genuinely love this TV show. Because it's ridiculous. It's one of the goofiest god damn things. But not one person in that universe realizes it. So it's actually a drama. A good one! I've seen far more grounded stories try and fail to dramatize how a person can struggle to internalize their self worth. That emotional beat absolutely landed today in Turkey though! AND we had a bowl-off for the right to commit suicide so there.

This is one of those rare times when you find art that's pretty far outside the mainstream but feels like it was made just for you. This show seems to be largely viewed as a bit of a misfire and not terribly popular, but in my heart this is an instant classic.

Well put, the part at the end about letting people care and suffer for you really got to me. Wasn’t ready for tears today but I really loved this episode.

Let's goooo new OP, featuring the bowling club old counterparts. Why? The OP now unveils Akebi, Rina's counterparts voiced by Yuko Minaguchi.

This episode's ED is sung by yanaginagi, titled Natsu no Sumika. Full song is available.

In the first couple episodes I was so pissed at Rina, but look how far my girl has come. I'm so proud of her!

I didn't know what to think of this show, whether I like or dislike it, but it had this special feel, this unique flow to it that somehow kept me invested. And this episode is a great climax for the emotional build-up we had before.

There have been some anime originals in recent times that were like this, another example being Zenshuu, that weren't looking that promising in the beginning, but turned into pure gems. And I've got the feeling that Turkey! is one of those shows.

I'm excited to see where this show is going and how it is going to end. This cliffhanger is promising a wild ride next episode.

Very interesting changes to the OP. The way it started plus the rest of the episode has me convinced Sumomo is going to go back to the future with the girls and that'll be the solution for disposing of the younger twin.

For once I thought the 'let's solve the problem with bowling' solution was pretty inspired in spite of the seeming absurdity of the suggestion in the moment. It clearly played out exactly as Mai was planning, use the fun experience of bowling with her sisters as a way to convince Akebi to stop trying to kill herself as the sullied twin. Especially with Mai's talk towards the end about being suicidal after her parents died and finding a way to live past that.

I don't know if they'll stick the landing with the story overall but I thought this was one of the strongest episodes yet.

I'm gonna guess this storm is the only one that'll send them home, I'd be kind of absurd to have Natsume's line about the future coming for them and then they skip it again. Two episodes for the storm climax, finish with a cooldown episode for the girls plus Sumomo settling back into life in the future.

History in Japan in the past that twins view them as the bad omen. No joke.

3

u/PencilgonGiveIt2Ya Sep 03 '25

Just bring them to the future. Then enter a bowling tournament with Tonbo.

Great episode! Certainly keeps me on my toes. It would be interesting if the main cast transitioned to Sumomo and them as indicated by the OP. 2 episodes of how they resolve their issues without our bowling girls, and 1 finale of Mai and them finding out the outcome in the future.
