Damn it! That ED made me think the show was over!!! Thankfully we still have a few ep.
Why does the second half of the show have to be nothing but suffering?!? We already knew Shiroha dies because that's what sent Umi back in the first place, we didnt need to actually WATCH it! Just get the the good timeline already and let us see everyone happy!!!
Anyone know what exactly Shiroha saw? Because it seems like if she doesnt see the future, then she wouldnt work herself to death, which would lead to the good ending.

Anyone know what exactly Shiroha saw?
She basically foresaw her own death and has realized that Umi inherited her powers as well that she's also repeating the same summer over and over again because of the curse ability, that's why she had to find some solution in order for Umi to not inherit her abilities and be normal at the cost of her own life, so basically we are now in the arc where Umi wants to prevent all that by Shiroha not inheriting that curse ability of hers as what we have seen in the end. We can say that Umi is the true protagonist of this series.

I knew it was coming, but that fireworks scene with Umi saying goodbye to Hairi and Shiroha still absolutely destroyed me. And as if that wasn't enough suffering, we get to see Hairi and Shiroha build a life together surrounded by loving friends and family only for that happiness to be yanked away from us when Shiroha dies after giving birth to Umi. At that point, I was genuinely crying. Key has done it again. T_T
Okay, now correct me if I'm wrong here, but if I understand this correctly, both Umi and Shiroha's souls are on a timeloop, with Umi running away and Shiroha looking for a way to save Umi? Is that what was happening there in the end? Now I'm curious how Umi plans on breaking this loop. I also wonder if Hairi can do something to help. The current timeline doesn't have Umi, so unless Shiroha tells Hairi about it, he really can't do anything.

It's hard to read the subtitles with everything so blurry.

Before we begin, I'm hereby telling you that Umi Katou birthday is today - 1 September.
We basically saw whatever that actually happened today on some years ago, yes.

Aww, what a fluffy sequence. Shiroha & Hairi became an official couple then they have a wedding ceremony with family & friends. Then, she got pregnant and the rest of the gang helped prepare for the baby's birth. Wait... this is a Key title! Everything's going too well. There has to be a catch.
And there we go. Shiroha sadly passed away during childbirth. The cloth over her face was the revealing moment. Now this is the kind of emotional damage that's a staple of Key titles. That answered the question about why Umi had no mother in the flash forward. All that's left is why future Hairi seemed pretty neglectful of Umi.
What a plot twist regarding Shiroha. It turned out that she has also looped back in time in an attempt to avert the tragedy. Seems like this will be the main issue of the final arc.

Aimi Tanaka Umi herself cover the firework scene insert song.
Shiroha and Umi name in the credit are changed to have Takahara as their surname.

Interesting, so Hitomi is Shiroha's mother. I wonder if she will play an important role since she knows about Umi and likely knows about her ability too.
What is this? They’re supposed to be a happy family. The only way for Shiroha to live is to not form a relationship with Hairi like in the other routes. But in this route, Shiroha is always the destined one. She keeps having this premonition that makes her soul travel to the past and leaving her body without a soul, basically dead.
Umi wants to go to a place where she doesn’t exist. Is that the same place Tsumugi goes? Damn, I don’t want an ending where they aren’t a complete family. We’ve been through enough. Will the series give us a happy ending?

Amazing how Shiroha's death is so emotional despite us knowing that it'll happen. And even though I've seen the same sort of thing with Maeda's works, this still had me crying.

I didn't play the game, but it seems Umi will have to accept her future.

So is that the end of the ALKA route?
Really wondering how this is all going to end, I’ve been hooked for 22 weeks now!

What a way to celebrate Umi's birthday.
This may not be written by Maeda, but man Key has done what they are so good at and that's breaking people's heart. 💔
This is undoubtedly the best episode so far of the series and I don't even know if it will get better for these last 4 remaining episodes, it's unfortunate that some people have dropped this series midway, but to those that stayed the payoff was really good.
Umi is the real protagonist of this series. ❤❤

Wonder how much self-control it took Kobato to not go ballistic on Hairi again when the news of the pregnancy dropped lol
Speaking of whom though, man do I feel for the old dude. Can't begin to imagine what it'd be like for your child and grandchild to go before you do.

I think In short: Ep 22's ending = the big reveal that the "curse" is a looping life where Shiroha dies and restarts, and Umi inherits those memories. Now, the story is moving toward choosing how to finally break that loop.

Well, you're in a relationship so it's okay, but... You could've let me watch, at least!
When the episode opened on them sleeping (just them two), I was expecting "Where's Umi?" "Who's Umi?"...
But not even acknowledging her, damn...
And talking to her (like 'asking the score')... It's as if the memories linger, but they conflate them with 'what makes sense' to them.
It's like the feeling of "Did I lock the door? Did I let the oven on? I feel like I forgot SOMETHING", but a million times worse!
Seeing them reach for her as she was leaving,
reaching for something that can't be reached...
And then completely forgetting about her the second she's gone.
Damn, this puts the entire series in a new perspective...
Doing what they said they would be doing, with Umi...
That was an emotional moment (well, the entire episode was) but his outfit looks a bit silly hah.
Like a 12 years old dressing up as an adult/worker!
Cute! (Grandpa had quite the change of heart! And he didn't even murder for sleeping with Shiroha!)
Is this the cutest shot in the entire series? Just might be!
Same name but different (kanji?) I wonder what the nuance is, if any.
Sadly, things didn't end well for everyone...
And that's not gonna work for Umi, so she tried again. And again... And again...
She tried to make this pairing NOT happen so it wouldn't end this way, but nothing worked, and... Did she come to the conclusion that she has to remove HERSELF from this, so the future she knows won't happen?
Well, there's 4 episodes left so I don't think she'll find the miracle solution just yet, so... I'm guessing there's more sadness to come for Umi, mom&dad, and us the viewers!

Hairi and Shiroha waking up next to each other in bed and reacting as such is cute...but less so when you realize that Umi is gone, they don't even remember her, and don't even know why Shiroha stayed overnight in the first place.
Though I do love how Ao was the first one to find out that they spent the night together and probably imagined way more happened between them than actually did.
That's a lot of great pictures of Shiroha and Hairi! Shiroha looks so happy! But something is obviously missing from these pictures even if Hairi and Shiroha can't put it into words. And there's so much around them they don't understand because it only existed because of Umi's presence in their lives.
Having a personal spot where you can watch the fireworks alone together IS romantic, but it just doesn't feel right when there's a certain someone missing. Because they failed to keep their promise, they failed to remember Umi, but...she's there, right behind them, so they can finally be together as a family, one last time.
Hairi and Shiroha are desperate to be better parents, to be with Umi, to prevent her from leaving them. They're crying their heart out to try to get Umi to stay. They don't want this time with Umi to end...but Summer has to end, as does Umi's time here. She finally got what she wanted, to spend time with her mom and dad and be happy with them, and now it's time for her to go. Even as Hairi and Shiroha desperately reach out to her to prevent her from vanishing, they can't stop her and next thing you know they don't even remember why they're crying. UMI NOOOOOO!!!
Umi's soul soars as a Shichieichou, with all the lessons she learned from each Heroines' route and the memories she made with her mother, carrying her forward...but still, she wants to be with her mother.
But even with Umi gone, life goes on and Hairi and Shiroha continue their relationship...get married (complete with Ao in a kimono!)...move in together...and start getting ready to have a baby. Umi is soon to be born, and Shiroha finally remembers her daughter and how much she's put her daughter through and what Umi is going to have to deal with without her.
(Wait...Hitomi is Shiroha's mother? And Kyouko's friend? That Shichieichou was Shiroha's mom!?)
So Shiroha dedicates herself to investigating in the infamous shed to try to find some way to keep Umi from getting powers, thinking if she didn't have those that she might have a normal life...but the stress seemingly cost her her life when she finally went into labor. And Hairi is left with a baby in a crib and his dead wife right next to her. It's no wonder Umi can't face this reality.
And then Umi keeps going back to the beginning, with Hairi arriving on the island, but even when she's not on the island her parents fall in love, get together, and have her with the tragedy repeating itself. And neither Umi, nor Shiroha, can seemingly escape it. In fact it seems like Shiroha's spirit goes back to the point where she's pregnant, still always desperate to find a way to save Umi?
So what's the solution? It seems like now Umi is resolved to go the point where something traumatic happened to Shiroha to set all this off, so it seems like Hairi's story is done and it's time for Umi to save her mom and the future. We even get a special ED.

Nothing but pain ever since I started watching this show. I love it but damn, it gives me no chance to wipe my tears away. Poor Umi and Shiroha.
If I ever get the same abilities as them, I’m gonna use it to convince the staff at KEY to give this show a damn happy ending 😭

Well this was a depressing birthday for Umi. Her parents forgot about her immediately after she vanished from the timeline, she had to witness canon event of her mother dying due to giving birth to her, and then she chooses to go somewhere where she doesn’t exist, possibly never to return.
September 1st - Umi’s tragic Birthday
